We are not sure if we will continue this week after this gale comes through.  If the weather clears up and the water temp holds we might try again later in the week.  We will keep you posted!

Sunday, October 26, 2008
Things were not looking good when we first started today.  The wave height was up to 8 feet on the weather buoy at midnight and the water was all stirred up when we started.  No bites at all on the first wreck.  Tried a few other drops with very little success.  As the tide changed we moved off into some deeper water and luckily the togs started to bite!  Finished the day with 80 keepers up to 8 lbs.  High hook was 11 keepers (orl).  Not a bad day at all considering how stirred up the sound was after that blow.

Togs are chewin!  Plenty of room for tomorrow.  Only a few signed up so far but we are definitely going!  Here are a few pics from today:

Friday, October 24, 2008
Nice catch of tog today!!  30 fares enjoyed a solid catch all day as 90 keepers, many on the meaty side were landed.  Pool was 8 lbs.  Many fares had their limit.  Special guest appearance was made by the one and only Kenjz who was high hook with 7 keepers, none of which were caught on chowder clams :)    Here are a few pics:

Thursday,  October 23, 2008
Awesome black fishing today!!!  We did not sail yesterday due to the weather.  Today we sailed on an educational school trip during the morning.  After the trip was over, Capt Paul said he would like to try his hand at black fishing as normally he only gets a chance to catch giant fluke on the south shore.  So on the way home, Paul, Chris and I decided to make a quick drop.

Well to say the least black fishing was awesome!!!  Paul, a very aggressive fisherman, snapped his rod on  a big black, landed  the fish and then proceeded to catch another dozen keepers with half a rod.  It was quite a performance.   The three of us easily managed our commercial limit and threw back some more (ORL) in no time.  Red hot bite!!  Quality fish to 8 lbs!

Looks like this weather has got em stirred up and angry.  Tomorrow looks beautiful.  Plenty of room if you would like to join us!  Here are a few pics from the trip.

Monday, October 20, 2008
Very windy start to the day but it finished up beautiful.  18 anglers had 32 keepers plus 10 sea bass.  A few sharpies had their limit of tog to 7 lbs.  Water cooled a few degrees since friday.  Good days are ahead!  Here are a few pics from today:

Sunday, October 19, 2008
We did not sail the past two days due to the weather.  Fridays trip was slow as 12 tog were landed and some sea bass in tough conditions with the wind and strong tide.    Hopefully coming off this moon with the cooler temperatures they will start to bite good!

Thursday, October, 16,2008
We did not sail today as only a few fares showed up.  Definitely going tomorrow though!

The past 2 days were on the slow side as the screaming moon tide had the bite shut down a bit.  Managed 300 porgies, 14 blackfish and 30 sea bass on Tuesday.  Wednesday saw about the same amount of porgies, 8 blackfish and a dozen sea bass.

Wow...that was some amazing run of fish the past few weeks.  We were very fortunate to have located the super jumbo porgies  as massive schools of huge porgies were pushing offshore getting ready to leave for the winter.  That was a lot of fun and Im glad so many of you were able to get in the tremendous fishing.  Lets do it again next year!

Now we turn our full attention to Blackfish.  Looks like finally some cool temperatures will be here to get things rolling!  We will keep you posted.

Monday, October 13, 2008
400 porgies, 14 blackfish, 35 sea bass.

Sunday, October 12, 2008
Today we  had 30 nice blackfish to 7 lbs, 20 sea bass and 500 porgies.  The porgies were a bit elusive today and we had to search a bit to find them.   But we put together a decent catch by the days end.  Only 3 more days left in the porgy season.  Hope to see you!

Saturday, October 11, 2008
Super fishing now!!  21 keeper blackfish to 7 lbs, 24 sea bass to 4 lbs and 1,400 jumbo and Super Jumbo porgies some which weighed in over 3 lbs!!  Many had their limit no problem on the first drop!  Just a few days left.  This has been some of the finest quality fish we have seen in a long time.  Still plenty of room on mondays trip!

Friday, October 10, 2008
Lots of fish today to go with the beautiful weather.  Over 1000 porgies were landed as well as 20 keeper blackfish and some sea bass.  Good fishing all around!

Thursday, October 9, 2008
Lousy sea conditions today.  Very rough in the morning but thankfully things calmed down a bit by the afternoon.  Had a nice catch of fish despite the conditions.  Over 30 keeper blackfish, 20 sea bass and 500 porgies were landed on the day.  Joe from the Captree Princess led the way with 4 blackfish, 4 sea bass and over 50 porgies (ORL).  below are some pics from today.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008
Beautiful day out there today.  Not a wave on the sound.  Nice mixed bag action again today as 25 fares had 24 keeper blackfish, over 50 sea bass up to 4 lbs and 400-500 porgies to 3 lbs.  Plenty of room on upcoming trips if you would like to get in on the the great fall bottom fishing!

Tuesday, October 7, 2008
Awesome day again today.  28 keeper blackfish, 20 sea bass and over 1,200 porgies, most of which were jumbo and super jumbo sized. (ORL)  Left them biting in an all out slaughter as we certainly had enough..
We had to call in the reinforcements and get Chief mate Tommy to meet us at the dock to help cut fish even though the crew had already been cutting for hours.  Some day!  Plenty of room tomorrow if you want in on this awesome bottom fishing!

Monday, October 6, 2008
What a day today!!  58 keeper blackfish, 30 sea bass, and all the jumbo and Super Jumbo porgies you could want!
Full coolers all around!  The wind laid down, the sun came out , fish were flying over the rails and there was much rejoicing!
Great fishing now!  Here are the pics from today:

Sunday, October 5, 2008
Lousy conditions today with rain and east wind.  Had a decent catch of porgies at the middle grounds and finished the day with 20 keeper black fish.

Saturday, October 4, 2008
We did not sail on thursday or friday due to the weather.  Much better conditions today!   We tried a few drops up near the beach to start the day but only had a few tog as well as some porgies and sea bass.  Stopped on another wreck which had some nice sea bass and 2 more blackfish.  Moved off to some rock piles and caught a ton of porgies and a few sea bass.  Tried another wreck and again had lots of big porgies.  Total for the day - hundreds of big porgies , some nice sea bass to 4lbs and a few blackfish.  Plenty of room tomorrow if you would like to get in on the action!

Wednesday, October 1, 2008   Opening Day!!!
A great success!!!  11 fares plus 4 crew had a great day today as 42 keeper tog were landed on the day.  A few of the drops also had all the porgies you wanted as well as some sea bass.   Stopped off in the deep water to top the buckets off with a some big jumbo porgies. A great way to start the blackfish season. Here are a few pics from today:

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
Awesome fishing right now!!  Hundreds and hundreds of porgies leaping in the boat today! (Only Retained Limit)  Middle Grounds is packed with fish!

Blackfish starts tomorrow!!! Only two people signed up so far :(    We are going no matter what.  Cant imagine missing opening day.  Winds are light, conditions are good.  Come on down!

Sunday, September 28, 2008
Finally got a break in the weather and sailed for the first time since Wednesday.  Fishing was a slaughter on the am trip!!!
Many anglers had their limit in only 2 hours of fishing!    Clam down...Porgy UP !!!  Giant Scup!!  Oh my !!

The mid day trip had a decent catch of big scup as well with a few sea bass in the mix.  The fish are really chewin right now!!  Blackfish starts on Wednesday!  Add a few nice tog and sea bass to the awesome porgie fishing and it should be a lot of fun!

Thursday, September 25, 2007
Here is a recap of the past few days.  Sunday's trip was very good with lots of porgies and a few sea bass.  Once the tide picked up we switched over to end the trip with great blue fishing.  Sundays pm trip saw about a dozen blues to start the night and then a decent pick of porgies to end the night.

Monday we did not sail either trip.  Tuesday we did not sail on the morning trip but 5 fares had a a very good catch of porgies on the pm trip.  Wednesday morning we had a great educational fishing trip with Port Jefferson High School as tons of porgies were caught, many of which were tagged and released.  We also caught some interesting sea life in the plankton seine which the students enjoyed viewing under the microscope.  Great trip.

We did not sail on wednedays pm or either trip on thursday.  Weather looks pretty bad for the next few days.  When the wind dies down we look forward to getting back out there for some great fishing again.

Saturday, September 20, 2008
Silly fishing today.  Our day trip saw a great catch of big porgies and then slayed the blues to end the trip.  Our pm trip was a bloodbath as tons of blues were caught as well as a bunch of bass, 2 of which were keepers.  Some of the blues were quite large up to 10 lbs.  The entire rip from south of the lighthouse all the way north for  over a mile was loaded with fish.  Great night!!

Thursday, September 18, 2008
Only 3 people showed up for the pm trip last night but it was such a nice evening and fishing has been so good we decided to go anyway.  We slayed all the blues they could want to start the trip then switched over to porgies.   Put the chum down and built up an excellent bite as double header porgies were coming over the rail in no time.  Headed for home with lots of fish and fond memories!  Great fishing now!

Here is a report from Capt Neil who fished with us on Tuesday PM trip and posted this on noreast.com:
"
Well, I sure had a fantastic evening fishing, catching and enjoying everything about the trip. Capt Chris put us over marauding blues, cocktails to bubbas! It was during this blitz that a fish picked up my jig as soon as I lifted it off the bottom. Knew I was in trouble when I saw the reel spool just about emptied, and fast! My trusty and proven MAXIMIZER #1 and Stradic 400 combination was gaining line back on the spool when under the boat the fish takes off again. I managed to get to the stern and realized the line might be caught under the stern. Line goes slack, Capt Paul comes from the other side of the boat and throws an ALBIE at my feet that weighed about 8-10 lbs. Holy Toledo!

After the tide and bite slowed down Capt Chris took us to a porgy spot. Right away 'pork chops" coming over the rail. I kept the biggest and my bride and I will have a tasty porgy dinner tomorrow.

A beautiful night to be on the water with a beautiful sunset. Thank you Capts Chris and Paul! "

We did not sail on Monday nor the Am trip on Tuesday due to the weather.  Fihsing is great now!!! THe jigging has been all out!  The porgies are very large and hungry.  Love this time of year!

Capt Neil

Sunday, September 14, 2008
Most trips continue to be awesome!!!  Yesterday's first two trips saw an excellent catch of very big Porgies!  The pm trip had a few hits on the blues and a pick of porgies and sea bass to end the night.  Today's charter was excellent!!!  Lots and lots of very large porgies with some anglers easily landing their limit.  On the way home we stopped on the blues for a nice little bail job to end the trip.  70-80 foot piles of blues were north of B11 in the deep water.  All you wanted!  Tomorrow looks like a blow out.  Try again maybe on the pm trip or tuesday.

Friday, September
Here is a report from Captain Neil that he posted on Noreast.com:

If you thought about fishing on the Celtic Quest this morning but did some thing else instead, maybe you should pass by this report.

Fred, Bob, Tom and I chose to fish the CQ today. What a CATCHING trip we had! So did all the other anglers on board! Capt Chris stopped to mug some of the cocktail blues that were jumping all over the surface. You could see and hear the water gurgling, sounded like a rushing mountain stream. For every blue we boated we lost as many of the surface and we had all the blues we wanted within the limits.

Then we went pork chop catching. We caught, caught and caught some more! It is wonderful when you can porgy fish using a 4 oz sinker in the middle of Long Island Sound. I loved the way Tommy cuts the clam bait, nice thin strips that fits on the hook and the porgys grab the hook as they suck in the clam bait. Way to go Tommy!

It was almost 1 stop catching porgys. When you can release keeper size porgys knowing that you will catch enough of the bigger and biggest size to take home, it does not get any better. Capt. Chris you had us on the fish

A hugh blue fish caught on a flounder spin pole took the pool. Our friend Tom did it to us again.

On top of all that the sun stayed in, no humidity, calm seas and just perfect fishing conditions for me. And, I also get to be the Go Home Capt! What a day!

So no rods were constructed today. Hey guys, I need a day off every now and then.

Folks this is the time of our fishing season when mayhem breaks loose almost every day. Get a day off and get on a Port Jeff party boat.

Neil

Here is a report from one of our customers from yesterdays trip.
"Slow pick in the AM.. But then it started. My first fish was a 5 lb Sea Bass then some big Scup. We only had (9) fisherman and still we filled up 4 totes with fish. While fishing for Scup we also hauled up 6 or 7 big blues on Scup rigs, from 3 lbs to 8 lbs. That was a lot of fun on those light rods. Lots of action and plenty of fish to take home, what more could you ask for. Desi thanks again for another fine day. Can't wait for BLACK FISH SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Here are a few pics from the trip:

Here is a fishing report that one of our customers posted on Noreast.com:

"
A 4:30 PM trip on the Celtic Quest with Capt Desi at the wheel became PORGY HEAVEN. On monday evening we had 5 fares and Desi said lets go fishing. Forty minutes to middle grounds 3 Hrs to fish and I limited out. I only took 30 porgys home, I threw back at least that many. The porgys were on the hook (2) at a time. If I could guess,5 of us had caught 200+ in 3 hours. PORGY HEAVEN...PORGY HEAVEN...PORGY HEAVEN... DESI thanks a lot for another great trip.  TWEETY..."

Sunday, September7, 2008
Fishing was very good all week long!!!  The porgie fishing has been excellent at the middle grounds with lots of big scup both on the deep water wrecks and rocks as well as the shallow rocks near the light house.    The size has been excellent with fish to 3 lbs almost everyday.  The south rip has also been holding some real quality fish as well.  Mixing in has been some nice sea bass to 4 lbs.

This weekend was a blow out as we did not sail at all on Saturday.  We did get out on b our mid day trip in today but it was slow as the water was still very churned up and murky from the storm.  Hopefully things should settle down by tomorrow and we can get back into the some good fishing again.

Tuesday, September 3, 2008
Solid fishing today!  9 fares enjoyed a good pick of fish today as many very large porgies and  dozen sea bass we landed on the day.  To go along with the porgies and sea bass we also had 25 -30 blues.  High hook was around 30-40 porgies, 3 sea bass and 5 blues.  Some real quality fish today in the rip both on the drift and at anchor.

Yesterdays' pm trip was also very good.  After jigging a few blues,  one drop was all that was needed for 6 fares to catch lots of big porgies.  We threw a few back for a while and then called it a trip!

Sunday, august 31, 2008
Awesome fishing continues!  Great jigging and porgie fishing yesterday.  This morning we followed a huge school of blues east of the middle grounds.  The midday trip was  a bail job.  The pm trip was awesome as well!  Great fishing now!

Friday, August 29, 2008
Insane fishing now!!!.  Awesome fishing continues!  Tons of jumbo porgies and and blues.  Yesterdays am trip saw a one drop limit catch of big porgies as over 400 scup were landed in no time.  We finished off the trip with some very good diamond jigging.  The pm trip saw nearly 200 blues landed as once the tide picked up the blues really piled up good along the rip.  Today's am trip was awesome as we jigged a ton of blues and had a great catch of porgies, many of which were on the huge side up to 3 lbs!  This is some of the best fishing we have seen in years at the middle!  Great ides coming up this weekend!
Come on out for some great action for the whole family!

Tuesday, August 26, 2008
The last few days the Middle Grounds has been on fire!  The jigging has been off the hook as the blues have been ferocious with limits in no time on blues to 10 lbs..  Today we had all we needed for 19 fares in an hours time and left them in an all out frenzy.  To go along with it we had a very good catch of big scup up to 18 inches long and some nice sea bass as well.  Awesome day!  Check out the video of the trip @ http://celticquestfishing.com/video_library.htm

Last night we did not have the right tide for the jigging with the slack water in the middle of the trip but the bottom fishing was Fantastic!!!  One stop shopping as a limit of big porgies was landed in no time!  Great night.

Now is the time.  Middle Ground Madness in full effect!!!

Picture of the fish finder from today's BAIL JOB!!!

SAVAGE FISHING!!!!

Thursday, August 21, 2008
Absolutely SAVAGE fishing right now !!!  Middle Ground Madness in full effect!   This has been the finest jigging we have seen at the Middle Grounds in years.  Both tides have been amazing as the south rip all the way past the lighthouse to the north green can has been lit up everyday!!  Blues form 1 pound to gaffing teen size fish and all you want.  Some trips are also seeing a lot of short striped bass with an occasional keeper.  Amazing right now!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008
Besides a rather slow trip for no apparent  reason yesterday evening, the Middle Grounds has been on FIRE!!!  This week has been some of the best diamond jigging we have seen in a long time.  Many drifts have lasted up to 30 minutes, bailing blues the whole time.  Both the outgoing and the incoming tide has been great!   Amazing diamond jigging right now!

The porgies bite has been ok, with a pick of quality porgies. Once these hard tides pass it should get really good.  Some nice fish around as well as a handful of sea bass each trip.  Bring the kids.  They will love it!!

Sunday, August 17, 2008
Very good bottom fishing and diamond jigging right now!  Saturdays mornings trip saw a very good catch of big porgies Off Old Field.  The mid day trip  was a bloodbath as the the blues were all over the place!  Our pm trip started out with a good porgie bite,, then the bite slowed after a brief thunderstorm.  We moved over to the shoal and had another good drop on the porgies which made for a decent night.  We tried one last rock pile to end the night which was slow.

Today's  Noreast Charter was a blast!  The morning conditions were very poor as the flood tide against the west wind made it nearly impossible to sit still.  Nonetheless we picked away at some nice sized scup.  Would have been great had we been able to anchor properly.  Then we headed out to the Middle Grounds and slayed the blues.!!!   The rip was lit up as the blues feasted on a ton of anchovies, butterfish and even baby snappers.    Bail job!!!

Once the tide eased we switched back to bottom fishing for a pick of some big scup and a handful a sea bass.  To end the trip we took a few token fluke drifts, managing 1 keeper a few shorts and 1 big sea bass.  To top it all off there was more food than we could possibly eat.  Total for the day was several hundred blues (ORL) 150-200 porgies, 8 sea bass, 1 striper and 1 fluke.  Thanks guys for a great day!

Friday, August 15, 2008
Sorry for the long delay in fishing reports!  Things have been a little busy lately.  Fishing remains very good on most trips right now.  The porgie bite off of Old Field has been awesome on some days.  We have been anchoring up with heavy chum with very good success.  The hard moving tide has been the best.  Diamond jigging has been a little hit and miss the past few days.  One trip you slam them, the next trip they have been hard to find.   But the good trips are very good if you find them.

Capt Chris did a little exploratory trip to the Middle Grounds earlier in the week and had very good catch of Porgies and sea bass.  Look like that area is starting to heat up as well.    Good fishing now.  Hope to see you!

Wednesday, August 6, 2008
Fishing has been great!! Today fishing went from good to ludicrous on the last of the ebb.

There was a solid mile of blues and bass and all ten fares easily limited out on blues by 8:30. Had a dozen short bass, no keepers. Released a bunch more and then switched to bottom fishing and limited out on big porgies!! What a day. I love when its like this.
Took one token fluke drift to end the trip. Had a mess of shorts, 1 nice keeper, called it a terrific day and went home.

Last night was an insane bail job as well. All the big blues you wanted plus a few nice bass to 24 lbs plus a bunch of big scup.

Below is a picture of the fish finder as we came over the hill. It speaks for itself as to how many fish are on the shoal right now. Who knows how long it will last, but it is all out right now!!

Video from todays trip we be up on the site this evening. @ http://www.celticquestfishing.com/video_library.htm

Here are some pics from the past 2 trips:

Fishing is great right now!!!!  The diamond jigging has been on fire the past few trips.  Last night we bailed the blues right in the inlet all night.  Today it was great on the shoal.  Tonight's trip was a bail job off Old Field!  Even had a few keeper bass to 24 lbs in the mix!
Porgie fishing  has ranged from an all out bail job to a pick of medium to Jumbo sized pork chops!  Put it together with the great jigging and we have seen some great action packed trips as of late. Great trips for the kids.

Fluking has slowed a bit the past two days but lets see what happens the next few days.

Great trip today!  25 anglers had 250- 300 fluke, 35 were keepers as well as dozens of blues and porgies.
Pool fish was a beautiful 8.5 lb fluke.  George led the way landing his limit on his secret bait as did Roger who limited out on fluke as well.
We started the day on the west side of the shoal as piles of blues and porgies were on the edge of the shoal.  Then we moved to the east side of the shoal and  that is where we had the best fluke action.  The first of the ebb was the best (as it usually is) as the fluke really started snappin.   Both bait and bucktail rigs caught well.   Plenty of room for this weekend.  Give a call if you want in on the action.  Here are a few pics from today.

Great day out there today.  Only 5 fares today and they enjoyed great action all day long.  The shoal had a ton of life on it as we finished the day with over 50 fluke, 13 were keepers, 40 nice porgies as well as 30 blues.  A lot of fish for 5 people!
Fun day.  Bring the kids out!  The action is fantastic right now!

Awesome Fluke action at B11 right now!!! Insane amount of fish up on the shoal. Tons of fluke, lots of throwbacks, enough mini doormat keepers to keep you going. We have had mutilple 7 lb fluke the past two days.Todays 17 person charter caught a ton of fish and kept 18. Our Pm trip saw 24 fares bail aprroximatley 200 fluke, 18 were keepers.

If you are any good at fluke fishing, especially bucktailing, you will do very well indeed. Come catch em while they are here!

Only a couple of fares for tomorrows trip. We will start the day bottom fishing for porgies and sea bass which has been solid (see Amanda's post for further verification on that). Then once the tide picks up we will hopefully get back on the fluke action.

As for me, I will be joining Captain John(CQ), Capt Cary(Lori C ), and Capt Rich (Hag) for a busman's holiday codfishing for the day. Have fun to whomever shows up. We can hopefully trade great fishing reports when we return!

Monday, July 28, 2008
Great action on the fluke today. 18 anglers had over 150 fluke, 21 were keepers. Johnny B won the pool with a 7 lbder. Lots of fish right now at B11 and B9.
Bucktails worked the best.      Here are some pics from today

Sunday, July 27, 2008
This past week saw some very good porgy fishing on a few of the trips off Old Field.  20-25 feet of water on the rocks had some good sized scup.  The hard moving current either direction was the best.  Action slowed for Saturday's trips.  The CQIII had some good action on bunker chunks though as many very large blues were landed.

Fluking has been excellent the past few days at B11 and B9.  Tons of fish mostly 18-20 inches but enough keepers to go around.  This mornings trip saw lots of fluke with some anglers landing over ten fluke in no time with a few keepers in the mix.  The rest of the day was cancelled due to the weather.  We will continue to follow these fluke for as long as we can.

Sunday, July 20, 2008
This week saw mixed results.  The fluke fishing saw lots of action on nice sized fluke but the mini doormat keepers were tough to come by.  We had some very good action on the porgies on several trips, especially on the afternoon trips.  There are a lot of 10 inch fish in the mix but plenty of keepers as well with the occasional jumbo to go with a few sea bass.  The diamond jigging was been a pick as the fish are very scattered up on the shoal.   A few of the trips on the outgoing tide did ok near B11.

We will be sailing on our East End Fluke Special tomorrow.  Plenty of room if you would like to join us!!

Monday, July 14, 2008
We sailed on our East End FLuke Special today. COnditions were excellent for a change as we had a nice drift for most of the day. We picked away at the fluke all trip mostly on bucktails. 16 fares plus Capt James and his brother from the Rosie finished the day with approximately 125 fluke, 26 which were keepers, plus 30 blues. Mr Chen won the pool with a 6 lbder. Capt James has been practicing a lot recently and was high hook with 20 fluke, 5 of which were keepers. (orl) Will post some pictures later.

Yesterdays am trip was very slow as the keeper fluke were hard to come by and the jigging was not much better.

Luckily the pm trip as great though as it was one stop shopping all night! 600-800 porgies were caught, 250-300 of which were keepers. A great trip for all the families and kids!

Saturday, July 12, 2008
The am trip yesterday started with some fluking around B11. Had action with the shorts but the keepers were hard to come by. Switched to diamond jigs and had a decent pick of blues to finish out the trip.

The mid day trip saw a few blues on jigs to start. Once we lost the tide though it was over. Then we decided to try out in some deeper water drops for porgies and sea bass. One wreck only had a few big porgies on it but another drop had a pick of big porgies and few big sea bass to 4 lbs. Things are just staring out in the deep water. Nothing great yet though.

The afternoon trip saw a slow pick of blues on jigs to start the trip. Then we switched over to bottom fishing and had a very good catch of porgies for the rest of the trip. Lots of action, many throwbacks with some nice big porgies in the mix as well. Good trip!

Friday, July 11, 2008
We sailed on our second east end fluke trip today! The trip started off very well during the morning tide as there was plenty of action with some real nice fluke in the mix. Bucktails were working quite well with green and pink the hot colors of the day.

Once that tide eased off it was a slow pick for the rest of the trip. 16 fares tallied around 100 fluke, 26 were keepers. Pool was caught by Chris which weighed around 7 lbs. Not quite as good as our first trip but still a good day. Looking forward to getting back there on Monday!

Capt Dane ran the CQIII on a bass and fluke charter and had a great trip! Chunking was awesome on the first of the ebb this morning as they easily limited out on bass to 28 lbs on bunker. They switched over to fluke and landed a few nice keepers with lots of action to finish up the trip.

Last nights pm trip saw a pick of blues on the jigs up on the shoal. As the sun set we then switched over to porgies. Chumming up on the shoal produced very well as and nice catch of big scup rounded out the catch to go along with a beautiful sunset.

Sailing three trips tomorrow and we head on down to the eastern grounds again on monday. Plenty of room if you would like to join us.

July 8th 2008

Excellent fishing today on our East End Fluke Special!!
We arrived on the last of the ebb and from the first drift you could tell there were a lot of fluke around. The shoal was loaded with sandeels, birds everywhere. The first 2 drifts wer good as a dozen big fluke were caught.

The current eased off around 9:30 and the next few hours we had very poor drifting conditions. Noentheless, we managed to pick away at the fluke through the slack.

Once the incoming started the bite really turned on again. They were really starting to snap good the last few drifts but unfortuantely we had to leave them biting to get home for our 4:30 trip.

Finished the day with over 100 fluke, 50 were keepers, many of which weighed between 4-7 lbs! Quality fluke today! If we had good conditions it would have been even better!

Highlights include John Briciana with 5 keepers , Matt Jenkins with 5 keepers, Rob Laurice with 5 keepers, and Ted Golja with 5 keepers and the pool (ORL!)

Wednesday, July 2, 2008
Fishing has been quite good the past two days.  Yesterday saw tons of action all day long with the fluke and porgies.  Lots of throwbacks but enough keepers in the mix to put together a good catch.  The pm trip saw a good late bite on the porgies around 7pm as most fares limited out.

Today saw a ton of action again on the fluke with both bucktails and bait working quite well.  The fluke have really turned on this past week.  With last years limits we would really be doing awesome.  But despite the limits there are still enough mini doormats around to make the effort worthwhile.  Here are some pics from today.

June 26, 2008
Nice catch of fluke today!!  Started the morning with some diamond jigging.  Landed about a dozen blues and a few short bass but the fish were scattered.  We decided to switch over to fluke on the last of the ebb as the drifting conditions were excellent.

The fluke were biting very well until the tide dropped out.  We landed over 70 fluke, keeping 22 with some nice fatties in the mix up to 7.9 lbs!   Straight bait rigs with spearing were the ticket.

We have excellent conditions again for tomorrow morning.  Only 1 person has signed up so far for tomorrows trip.  Come on down if you want to get in on the action!  Here are a few pics from today.

June23, 2008
We did not sail today with the weather.  Yesterday saw some great jigging on the CQIII on the last of the outgoing tide.  Tons of blues were stacked on the edge of the shoal.  The CQII had a slow pick of porgies first thing in the morning but the bite died as we lost the tide.  We managed to jig 25-30 blues to end the trip up on the shoal.

The pm trip was outrageous!  Thousands of blues were pile up right outside the inlet and our 6 fares bailed fish for the first two hours of the trip!  All the rain and storms that were predicted never came and a great time was had by all!  Here are a few recent pictures:

June 19, 2008
Fishing remains very solid right now.  The diamond jigging has been terrific on many trips as there are a ton of blues chasing the sand eels up on the shoal right outside the harbor.  The porgy bit has been very good in the morning in particular.    As for Fluke, today saw a ton of action as 14 fares had over 70 fluke.....only 4 were keepers though.  Last years regs it would have been an excellent trip!

On Wednesday, we had a charter with Capt Jerry McGrath and his Fish N Kids Program.  50 kids from Oxhead Elementary School had an awesome trip as they Limited out on Big Porgies in now time.  Great time for the Kids!!!

June 16, 2008
Bail Job today!!!  Our charter of 24 anglers started the day with a limit catch of Porgies!  Then we switched over to diamond jigs and absolutely slaughtered the blues and schoolie bass!    Several hundred fish were landed before calling it a day!
Great trip!!

June 15, 2008
Yesterday was awesome.  BAIL JOB on the Jumbo porgies and lots of great action diamond jigging!  Had a family group who chartered the boat and it was great to get the kids into so many fish!
Today, the porgies were there, but the bite was very picky.  They were schooled up in huge piles and were spawning. Unfortunately they had other things on their minds besides eating our delicious clam baits.   The fluke bite was also slow.  Oh well, hopefully they will bite again tomorrow!

June 13, 2008
What a day! Beautiful weather, beautiful people and lots of fish!!!

BAILED the big porgies to start the day. 30 anglers easily limited out in a
1/2 hour. Tried a few drifts for fluke but with the drift conditions it
wasnt looking to promising so we switched over to diamond jigs. There were
lots of blues and a few schoolie bass up on the shoal chasing sandeels. The
jigging was very good for the remainder of the trip. Great all around day!

It is an extraordinary body of porgies around right now, more than we have
seen in several years.

Video from this mornings trip is now up.
click on PORGY BONANZA!!

June 12, 2008
What an opener to the Porgy Season today!!!
WE pulled up to the grounds on the charter boat CQIII to find a school of porgies literally 7 football fields long this morning. Our 4 person charter BAILED porgies until they could not take it anymore, keeping only the largest 40.
The CQII pulled up shortly thereafter a proceeded to Bail several hundred porgies as well (ORL). Amazing pile of fish right now off Port Jefferson.   Ahhh....I love when it like this!

Wednesday, June 11, 2008
The last two days have been awesome!!  Working with Capt Jerry Mcgrath and his Fish N Kids program, over 90 children and their parents have experienced some truly great fishing!!!    Jerry's educational program is second to none as the kids were taught a variety of classes from marine ecology to navigation and safety before switching over to enjoy some truly remarkable fishing.  Right now the local area is ALIVE with tons of fish.   Huge schools of big porgies are piled up on the local rocks.  The bluefish have been everywhere.  And today thousands of schoolie striped bass were all over the shoal!
Incredible fishing right now!  Cant wait for the PM Porgy Bonanza tomorrow Night!

(ALL PORGIES WERE RELEASED!!!)

Monday, June 9, 2008
Nice catch of fluke again today.  7 fares had over 50 fluke on the day with 8 big keepers.  Two fish weighed in a 7.5 lbs.  Lots of action and bucktails are the way to go.    Here are some pics of the big ones:

Sunday, June 8, 2008
Nice catch of fluke today!!!  With all the sandeels around the fluke finally decided to bite today after  a slow 2 weeks.  23 fares kept 14 big fluke with nearly 100 fluke caught, many of which were over 19.5 inches.   Sharpies on board who were casting bucktails had great action today.    Pictures below!

Wednesday, June 4, 2008
We continue to have a great time doing our educational school trips!!! These trips have really been a blast for the kids!  From seining plankton and using microscopes to dredging all sorts of sea life from different types of bottom, to just plain fishing, it has been a pleasure to spend our days with so many great kids, teachers, and families.    Hopefully, these programs will inspire a few of the kids to become fishermen! or at least help them gain an appreciation for our amazing marine environment!
As for our regular fishing trips, the fluke bite has been on the slow side with a handful of big fluke caught and a lot of fluke released.  Tons of porgies are hitting the baits in certain areas (all released).  Lots of blues have been feeding on the sand eels and we have enjoyed some great diamond jigging on a few of our pm trips.    June is usually the month the fluking really gets going so hopefully any day it should pick up!

Below are a few pictures from our recent trips.    (All porgies caught were released, some were even tagged and released!)

Way to go!

Smiling Faces!

Here is a copy of Captain Jerry McGraths report which he posted on Noreast.com:

"Holy Moley! I've been doing the FISH N KIDS program/field trip activity for more than 3 decades. Today, in the more frugal of catching times, we had our best fishing day ever. I think that's a pretty impressive statement since the total # of trips has encompassed way over 100 excursions. The fish gods certainly answered all of the prayers of the 4th graders from the Oxhead Elementary School in Centereach.

After completing 90 minutes worth of learning stations on a most gorgeous, sunny day, we headed east in search of an area to dredge for sea creatures. Thanks to Capt. Desi, we found a productive bottom full of conch, hermit crabs, calico crabs, small surf clams, spider crabs, and other critters that roam the bottoms of the L.I. Sound. This was a fill-in activity since the slack water had just arrived and we didn't feel that the porgy bite was going to be at their optimum conditions. However, once we arrived at the Rocky Point area, the fish immediately began chewing their heads off. The smaller scup found the baited hooks initially, but as time passed, the large and super-jumbos showed up at an incredible pace and in very good #s. I was amazed at some of the sizes of these scup. It was if they had bypassed the Montauk and New Bedford areas and came searching for every one of our rigs. Every child on board had at least a few fish, most had over ten porgies, doubleheaders were aplenty, and leading the way was Sammantha who caught 33 fish single-handedly and her nearby pal, Jacklyn, who caught a fish that easily topped 3 lbs. What a day!

Desi and I guessed that over 400 fish were brought to the boat and all were released. (Keeping scup on the partyboat/charterboats is legal only on June 12 and thereafter.) The kids did not seem to mind the release efforts one bit, probably because they were having so much fun with the catching routines. I wish I had a taperecorder on board to play back the sounds of excitement, joys and thrills. OOOHS & AAAHS hit record highs. IT WAS A TRIP THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME IN THE MEMORIES OF MANY (including mine.) Many thanks go to Desi and his crew for their wonderful patience and friendly attitudes.

We had a great week with our educational school trips.  From seining plankton to bottom trawl surveys, the kids had a great time learning about our local marine environment.  We resumed fishing again this past weekend but unfortunatley the bite was very slow.  Some nice big fluke were landed but not the numbers we had last week.  There were many shorts on some trips as well as blue fish.  On a few of the evening trips we also had a lot of porgies which we released...though the kids still had a lot fun reeling them in.  Hopefully the fluke bite picks up again soon.  We will be doing more marine education trips again this week on our day trips, so we most likely will not have another fishing report until next weekend.  Hope to see you soon!

Sunday, May 18, 2008
Bit if a slow pick for us out there today.  15 keepers were landed on the day.  Some big fish though with Steve Abromowitz winning the pool with a 7.5 lb beauty.

We will be sailing educational school trips during the day through this thursday, so we may not have another fishing report up for a few days.  All the afternoon trips are open though as well as all trip friday through monday.  See you soon!

Saturday, May 17, 2008
Little breezy out there this morning but conditions settled down a bit by mid morning.  Picked away at the fluke on the outgoing tide as 11 anglers caught 18 keepers for the am trip.  Rich Healy won the pool with a 6 lb flattie !  Not a bad day at all.  Here are a few pictures:

Great to be fishing again!!!  Today was the long awaited fluke opener.  6 fares landed about 30 fluke on the day, 7 of which were keepers.  The keepers were all quite large and bucktails were the ticket today.  Lots of sandeels around up on the shoal and hopefully this is just the beginning of good days to come.   Here are some pictures from the day:

Today was our final trip of the year.  Picked away at the blackfish and ended the day with 57 keepers.  Not a bail job by any means but some nice fish to 6 lbs in the mix.  Due to the regulations, we are now tied up for two weeks because there is nothing to fish for.  We will begin again on May 15th when Fluke opens!   Hope to see you then!

Tuesday, April 29, 2008
It was a cold, rainy, windy day out there for our Noreast.com Blackfish Seminar.  Thankfully the great company and about 50 keeper blackfish made it a fun day again.  Tough conditions but a lot of great information was shared among all aboard today.  Thanks again to our team of Captains : Chris, Mike, Steve, Jerry, Neil and Anthony from the Barbara Ann Charter boat.  You all are a wealth of knowledge and and it has been a pleasure to do these trips with you.  I look forward to next year!

Sunday, April 27, 2008
After a slow start we finished up strong today.  First few drops were picky but thankfully the last few had some decent life on them.  We ended up with 70 keepers to 6.7 lbs.  Sung Bum Kim won the pool for the first time in his life !  Only a few days left.  Hope to finish strong!

Not sailing tomorrow with the weather, but still some spots available for Tuesdays seminar and Wednesday.

Here are a few pics from today

Fishing was slower than yesterday as the conditions were much tougher.  Nice easterly roll all day, but luckily the sun came out around mid day.  Total for the day was 35 keepers.  Few nice fish in the mix with Tony Alesi winning the pool.  Here are a few pics from today.

Great day with the gang from Noreast today!  The weather was perfect, the company was great and to to top it all off the Tog bite very well!!  80 keepers were landed as both clams and crabs caught well.  Pablo won the pool with a 6.11lb tog.

A lot of great information was shared between all the Captains and fisherman.  Thank you to Noreast.com for putting this trip together, especially Togmaster for all your hard work.  Look forward to the next seminar on Tuesday!

Here are a few pics from today:

Blackfish were biting good again today!!!  We had a lot of families and kids out today to enjoy the great weather.  Luckily the fishing was again quite good as nearly 80 keeper blackfish came over the rails.  Mike Hayman was high hook with 8 keepers (orl)  Pool fish was 7.5lbs.  Nice to see all the kids having fun catching fish today!  Plenty of room on all trips coming up.  Just give a call or book online.

Below are some pictures from the trip.

Nice catch of Tog today!!!

Hit a few drops in 50-70 foot range and had good life on all of them!  14 anglers enjoyed a solid catch of blackfish as 37 keepers were landed.  Some quality fish in the mix as the pool weighed in over 8 lbs today.  Clams worked best and the bite was aggresive.  Plenty of room on most trips including our Noreast seminar on Friday.

Below are some pics from today:

Togs are starting to bite!

The water is 8 degrees warmer than when we started last year. With temps in the high 40's now, the blackfish bite has begun.

We had a decent pick of fish on the morning tide yesterday with 24 keepers coming over the rail with about that many shorts. Once the tide turned that was it though as the bite shut off the rest of the day.

High hook was 5 keepers. Not a bad start considering the full moon and tides. We hope to sail again after this east wind dies down, maybe by Tuesday. Lots of room on all trips including  our Noreast Seminar trip on the 25th.

Here is a picture of the pool winner Paul Buckley:

2007 Reports

Sunday, Dec 2, 2007
When the weather allows we have been picking away at the blackfish in the 40 -70 foot depths.    The past few trips have seen 25-40 keepers per trip with the pool 8-9 lbs for mostly light crowds.  Yesterday, 16 anglers had 37 keepers with Joe Deptula winning the pool for the first time in many many years!

We will be sailing again hopefully Wednesday after this windy weather passes.  Here are a few pictures from this weeks trips.

Sunday, Nov 25, 2007
The black fishing was picky this week as the moon tides really slowed the bite down.  18-65 keepers were landed per trip with some big fish in the 8-10 lb class but not the numbers like we saw last week.

The water is still plenty warm and hopefully after this moon the bite will pick up again!     We will be sailing again on Wednesday.

Sunday, November 18, 2007

Terrible start to the day.....awesome finish!!!    It was lousy, rough conditions this morning.  The waves were rolling in good and the bite was non- existent on the first few drops.  We were contemplating even calling it a trip and heading in early when Capt Pete finally hooked a nice blackfish..then a few more came over.....

The sound started to calm down a bit so we decided, what the hell, we made it this far lets keep trying.  Our charter agreed so we rolled the dice and headed off to a little honey hole that we thought should hold a few fish...and boy Im glad we did.

Over 90 keepers for our charter of 25 people were landed in the final 40 minutes of fishing as the blacks were biting their heads off to end the day!!!  Great way to end.

Friday, Nov 9, 2007
Black fishing has been  picky the past few days with 30 -50 keepers per trip.  Considering the conditions today, with the new moon and east wind we put together a decent day.  55 keeper blacks were landed with some real big fish in the mix.

Chris had the pool winning slob which weighed in at 11.5 lbs !!  Bill had second with another fine tog weighed in a 10 lbs.

After this blow and the moon pass, it should be some great fishing!

Finally got out again after a few days at the dock.  Once the sound settled down a bit, we had the best bite of the season so far during the afternoon.  71 keepers to 8 lbs were caught by today's charter.  After a slow start to the day it was a nice way to finish.

The water has finally cooled down a bit and hopefully this is just the beginning of good things to come.  Below are a few pics from today

Finally a day with some calm weather!  Fished Saturday in a southerly gale for 14 keepers to 8.5 lbs.  Sunday, 17 diehards fished a northerly gale for 21 keepers to 7 lbs.

Finally today the sound laid down a bit.  It actually felt like a real blackfishing trip for the first time with the cool temps.  We even had to put the cabin heat on!  Now thats more like it!

The bite was good on the first few drops with 40 keeper blacks coming over the rail.  The bite shut down for the ladder part of the incoming but none the less it was nice to see a decent shot of fish on the morning tide.  We had a few big fish as well including an 11 lb beauty caught by Marlon !!!

Hopefully this is just the beginning of good things ahead!

We only sailed Monday and Wednesday this week so far due to the weather.  Similar results as last week with of pick of tog to 9 lbs, some sea bass, and a good amount of extremely large wreck porgies.   Everyone is going home with plenty of fish for dinner. Hopefully this blow and the passing of this moon tide will really get the blacks going for the upcoming week.

Sunday, October 21, 2007
Another beautiful day out there.  Despite the water temp  rising several degrees the last few days we continue to pick away at the tog.  Today we landed 26 keeper blacks, several of them over 5 lbs.  The pool was won by Josh Tally and weighed in at 9 lbs.  Nice fish!

Lots of very large wreck porgies rounded out the catch as well as a few sea bass.  We have had similar results on all our trips this week as the fall bottom fishing continues to be quite decent.  Below are the pics from todays trip.

Thursday, Oct 18, 2007
Another great day!  22 fares enjoyed beautiful warm weather and lots of fish to go with it!  A few of the wrecks had a ton of life on them.  Total for the day was 30 keeper blacks, 45 sea bass and hundreds of very large wreck porgies up to 3 lbs.

Capt Jack from the Port Jeff Ace was out and easily had his limit of jumbo scup, keeping only 25 large ones which all measured over 14 inches.    Fred Zaiter led the way with 4 keeper blacks and the pool was caught by Winston weighing in at 8 lbs!

We are sailing an School educational charter tomorrow and will be black fishing again on Saturday.

Great day out there today.  Fished several pieces from 30-60 feet of water and had an excellent catch of blackfish and sea bass.  Total for the day for our 15 fares was 40 keeper blacks up to 8lbs and 55 keeper sea bass many of them jumbo sized!  There was also lots of big porgies for those who wanted them.  Things are just getting started.  Good days are ahead!
Below are a few pics from the trip.

Togs are starting to bite a bit!  Today we fished a few pieces of structure in 20- 40 feet of water and found life on all of them.  Total for the day was 30 keepers up to 8 lbs.

Yesterday's charter saw great action all day long.   Our first drop was on a deep water wreck which produced an excellent catch of large to extra large porgies, a few sea bass and lots of blues.

As the tide picked up the south rip came to life with tons of blues and birds working.  We had several great drifts diamond jigging the blues.  One the way home we made a stop at B11 for another 4 good drifts on the blues and schoolie bass.  Very good trip.

Below are a few recent pictures:

The water temps have cooled off a bit after this blow.    We had a bunch of nice sized blacks today...17 keepers total up to 7 lbs.  Looks like things are picking up a bit compared to the beginning of the week.

Yesterday, we just had a few keeper tog....but lots of big porgies and some sea bass fishing several wrecks and rock piles near the middle grounds.    All in all, good fall bottom fishing right now.

Friday October 12, 2007
We have not sailed all week due to the weather.  There has been a lot of life on the wrecks now with big porgies, decent number of sea bass, blues, and a few blackfish.  All in all, very good bottom fishing right now when the weather allows us to fish.

Hopefully the blow chilled things down a bit and we should see more and more blackfish with each passing day.

Only 2 fares showed up today but with such beautiful weather and the smell of tog in the air we decided it was too nice of a day not to go fishing!

Brian and Billy along with Capt Pete and myself enjoyed a solid pick of nice sized tog today as we landed  20 blacks, 12 of which were keepers up to 7lbs.  Greenies did the trick on the morning tide before calling it a trip around noon time.

Nice day out there and once again amazing to be catching blackfish  in 80 degree weather!

Below are a few pics from today

Well......opening day was a lot of fun but unfortunately the blacks decided to get lock jaw.  We did manage 6 keepers with one which weighed in over 7 lbs but they just were not feeding aggressively like they were a few days ago.

We used our underwater camera on a few of the spots and you could see many big blacks just swimming by our baits uninterested for what ever reason.  But they are down there and who know maybe tomorrow they might turn on again!

We did manage a bunch of porgies and a few sea bass and a keeper bass.  The south rip at the middle had a decent amount of life to end the trip with a few drifts on the porgies.  Capt Chris slayed the big blues and porgies there on yesterdays pm trip.

All I can say it that it was great to be black fishing even if it wasnt the best trip we ever had.

Try again tomorrow.  Below are a few pics from today

We did not have any fares to sail today, but with such beautiful weather we decided to go on a crew trip to test a few of the blackfish drops for the upcoming season.

Fishing in near 90 degree temps in shorts and t-shirts...we are pleased to report that the blackfish were biting very well!!

Myself, Capt Chris, Capt Pete, and Capt Rich (SeaHag II) had 19 keeper blacks to 8lbs many of them caught on whole green crabs fishing the morning tide. (see pictures below)

Our season starts Monday for blackfish and we are happy to see that they are biting. Now, it can always be a challenge for the first few weeks of the season and I dont want this report to be blown out of proportion....when the water is still warm sometimes they can get a little tough to find.....but all I can report is that they were biting well today and hopefully starting monday we will catch a mix of nice blacks and a few sea bass to go with the already solid porgy fishing.

The bottom fishing continues to be solid fishing mainly wrecks and rock piles which are holding a good number of big scup, blues and a few sea bass.

Capt Chris just reported in from the evening trip that they had a nice catch of big porgies fishing a wreck in 80 feet of water. On the night 6 fares tallied 70 scup to 2 lbs.

We are Sailing everyday on our wreck/bottom fishing trips for Porgies, sea bass, bluefish......and starting Monday......TOG!!!!!!

Below are a few pictures from today's trip

Fishing has been very solid this week.  Yesterday saw a slow start on the jigs to start the trip but improved as Captain Chris hit a few of his favorite wrecks and rock piles for a a nice pick of big porgies and blues.

Our charter on the CQIII for Joe Deptula, Vinnie and Al  saw  great bottom fishing as over 100 jumbo scup were landed in only two hours fishing a piece of bottom in 40 feet of water.  A few blues rounded out the catch.  Great trip.

Captain Pete took out a night charter on the CQII and also fared  well.  He set up in near a wreck in 80 feet of water and had solid action on the blues to 10 lbs on bunker chunks.

All in all it has been some real good fall fishing this week as most of the bottom structure now is holding a good amount of big porgies and blues and a few sea bass.  Due to popular demand we will now be doing our Full day Wreck and Bottom Fishing Special sailing everyday from 7am-2pm.  Hope to see you.

Monday, September 16, 2007
Decent day today despite the east winds and lousy conditions.  We were forced to fish Smithtown bay to get out of the weather and found a nice pile of big blues to jig in the morning.  The bottom fishing saw a lot of action but there not too many keeper porgies.  Once things calmed down a bit we hit a few schools of blues off Port Jeff harbor to end the trip.  Not a bad day considering the conditions.

Yesterdays pm trip saw some great diamond jigging for the first two hours of the trip as there were blues everywhere around Old Field Point.  The porgie fishing was slow to end the trip but some nice size scup were kept.

Luck was on our side again on Saturday night as the 30 knot NW winds forced us to fish in the harbor most of the trip.  Thankfully we located a massive school of blues that had the peanut bunker pinned up against the LIPA dock.  We caught a ton of fish to end the trip and everyone went home happy.

Thursday, September 13, 2007
We did not sail Tuesday with the bad weather.  Wednesday wasn't much better as the west wind was blowing up to 30 knots in the am.  Our charter still wanted to go and after a slow morning with the high winds, the conditions finally improved mid day and the fish gods rewarded this hearty bunch as several huge schools of bluefish appeared in the final hour of the trip.  The jigging was great to end the trip and everyone went home happy.

Today's trip was similar to yesterdays as the morning fishing was slow.  Our charter opted to stay with the blue fishing nonetheless and thankfully it paid off.    Capt Chris located a few nice schools boiling around the harbor and the jigging was very good to end the trip.

Saturday, September 8, 2007
Fishing has been excellent this week!  The amount of blues around the inlet and B11 is incredible the past few weeks.  Last night, everywhere you looked you could see fish boiling on the surface.  The last several pm trips have seen great jigging!  Some trips we haven't even made it out of the harbor as big schools have been stacked up on the west side of the harbor.    Other nights the fish have been from the inlet all the way to B11.  The un down bite has been especially good.

After everyone has had their fill diamond jigging, we have been switching over to bottom fishing for some decent porgy fishing on the local rockpiles.     It hasnt been a bail job, but everyone is managing a bunch of nice sized porgies and a few sea bass to round out their catch.  All in all, a very good week.

Tuesday, September 4, 2007
It was some savage boil of bluefish last night inside the harbor!!   Go figure...even with all the labor day boat traffic the blues were going crazy off poquot like we haven't seen in years.  Got on them for several amazing drifts until they finally scattered.  Exciting fishing to say the least.

Today started out a little slow on the bunker chunks.  We switched over and picked away at some nice porgies at the middle grounds and then to end the trip all hell broke loose!  There was a massive pile of blues off the harbor and our 6 fares tallied over 50 blues in no time!  Great way to end the trip.

Friday, August 31, 2007
Fishing has been very, very good on most trips this week.   The best action has been right outside the harbor as acres of blues are feasting on peanut bunker.  Last night was a bail job on the blues with several limit catches in the first hour.  Today was also awesome off Old Field again with all the blues you wanted.

The porgy fishing has also been very good as the fish are starting to set up now on some of the deeper wrecks and rock piles around the Middle Grounds.   We had a few drops this week on some of the wrecks which produced very well on jumbo scup.   There also has been some excellent porgy fishing at the mouth of the harbor.

Saturday, August 24, 2007
Very good fishing the past few days.  Yesterday saw some great action on the jigs all morning long chasing numerous schools of surface blues.  The pm trip saw a few good shots of fish but they were moving fast and more difficult to catch.  Nonetheless, those who were willing to fish hard put together a good catch.

Today the jigging was very good to start the day right outside the harbor.  Lots of cocktail blues were boiling outside the inlet and we had several good drifts to start the trip.  Captain Bill then located some nice schools of bunker with big blues underneath them.  1st mate Tommy worked hard snagging the bunker for everyone.  The fresh bunker was what the big blues wanted as we enjoyed a solid pick of very big blues for the rest of the trip.

Though we did not try bottom fishing today, the porgy fishing broke wide open the past few days at the middle.  Lots of big jumbos have been caught in the rock piles.  We will incorporate some of this fine bottom fishing into our trips when conditions are right to go along with the great diamond jigging.

Thursday, August 23, 2007
Thankfully this awful weather is finally moving out.  We did not sail for 3 days with all the wind and rain.  We finally got out again last night but fishing was very slow as everything was really stirred up.  Had a few fish to start the night and there was some cocktail blues in the harbor, but it was a tough trip.

Today was much better though!   We had great action on the jigs with some huge piles of fish on the morning tide.  Lots of blues came over the rails and it was great to see that the fishing was very good like it was before the bad weather.

Sunday, August 19, 2007
Yesterdays trips were very slow due to the awful weather.  The NW winds really had everything stirred up out there and the bite was way off.    We were forced to fish in the harbor much of the day as the conditions were just too lousy. Today's am trip was better though.  It wasn't the great fishing from earlier in the week but nonetheless we had some good shots of blues in the morning east of b11.  Once the tide dropped out the bite ended but everyone got a few for dinner.

The CQIII had an excellent day today chunking very large blues near a deep water wreck.  We also had a short bass to go along with all the giant blues you wanted.  Top fish was in the low teens today!

Big Des with a huge blue

Friday, August 17, 2007
Very good day today on both trips.  There has been a ton of fish working huge schools of peanut bunker in the deep water off B11.  The day trip started off slow to the west but once the fish were located it was awesome diamond jigging for the rest of the trip. for the rest of the trip.

Despite the lousy weather on the pm trip the fishing remained excellent.  A few very large schools of blues were located on the surface and the jigging was great.  Some fish were very large as well up to 12 lbs!

Thursday, August 16, 2007
Great day today.  Fish were all over the surface and with no wind it was easy to find them.  Hit a few schools with some big fish as well to 10lbs.   All you wanted on the jigs!

Monday, August 13, 2007
Tons of fish out there today.  The CQIII had great action on the jigs today with blues up to 10 lbs.  AS the tide eased off we chunked a deep water rock pile and had a bunch of big blues to 12 lbs and a nice bass of 20 lbs.

The CQII also enjoyed awesome fishing on the jigs.  The day began in the middle with some big piles of fish on the north side.  We then headed off cranes where there was acres and acres of blues on the surface.  It was excellent fishing to say the least for the remainder of the trip.

Saturday, August 11, 2007
Great day out there today!!!

The CQIII slayed the giant blues on the chunk in the deep water with Capt Dane at the helm. They also managed a few keeper striped bass up to 24 lbs!! Great trip.

The CQII enjoyed great action at the middle ground chasing the bass and blues. The north rip was lit up with tons of blues chasing anchovies on the outgoing tide. We also had a bunch of schoolie bass. The whole rip had fish as there was an extraordinary amount of bait around. Thankfully the wind and seas laid down and the fish really turned on!

Thursday, August 9, 2007
The jigging on the north side of the Middle Grounds was an absolute slaughter today!!  All the fish you wanted in 20- 30 feet of water!   Awesome fishing!

The past few days have also been very good both at the middle and on some of the deeper rock piles.    Some nice bass have been coming off some of the deeper spots.  We had a few good shots on the porgies as well on the pm trips but the days have still been slow on the scup.  But hopefully they are starting to improve.

Sunday, August 5, 2007
We have landed several big bass the past few trips.  Joe Constantino had a 28 lb bass on a jig fishing a rock pile last night.   Lots of cocktail blues have been all along the beach and in the inlet.

The middle grounds has also produced well the past few trips as there has been a decent amount of blues on the north side.  We had a good shot of them this morning until the tide eased off.

Friday, August 3, 2007
The captains choice combo continues to see decent results on the day trip.  The fluking is holding up quite well with anywhere from 10 - 20 keepers being landed on most trips.  The best fluking now is coming off the deeper edges in 30-50 feet of water.    We have also been adding in some bass and blues and a few porgies and sea bass to round out the catch.

The diamond jigging has ranged from red hot to slow.  There have been a lot of surface blues at the middle grounds in the shallow water.  Some trips have seen some excellent shots of fish with some bass in the mix.  A nice keeper bass won the pool last night.  A few trips this past week the blues did a disappearing act and were hard to find.  But all in all jigging has been good.

The porgy fishing has been on the slow side the past several days.  The ones we are catching are very large but hopefully after these hard currents ease off a little the scupin' should improve.

Thursday, July 26, 2007
Today was one of those days fisherman dream of!  On our morning charter Capt Chris located some huge schools of bunker and big blues out in the deep water.   It was a total bail job on giant blues all morning on bunker chunks.  As soon as you got your chunk below the bunker school  you could see countless big blues going after the bait..  It is quite a site to see, one which never gets old!

Yesterday saw the continued awesome fluke action.  Incredible amount of fluke here this year.  With last years regs it would have been yet another limit out trip for all 17 anglers as most of the fish are 18-19 inches.  High hooks would have been in the double digits.   Nonetheless, 18 keepers were landed up to 4.5 lbs and a fun day was had by all.

Thursday, July 19, 2007
Insane fluke bite today!  19 fares landed nearly 400 fluke on the day many of which were over 18 inches.  Nearly 60 of last years keepers were in the boat by 9am. Last year we would have limited out all fares by 11 am.    We did manage 15 keepers on the day.  Some great action right now.

Tuesday, July 17, 2007
Tremendous action on the fluke with 18 -19 inch fish.  Enough keepers in the mix to keep it interesting.

The PM Middleground trip had some good action for 6 fares.  A bunch of big blues to 10 lbs and a keeper bass hit the jigs on the outgoing tide.  Finished the trip with a pick of some very big scup.  All in all, a nice middle ground mixed bag.

Saturday, July 14, 2007
Great trip aboard the CQIII today.  Capt Pete put em on the meat!  Lots of nice bass to 25 lbs and some big blues.  Finished the trip bucktailing a handful of keeper fluke.

The CQII again had a ton of action off B11.  Not to sound like a broken record but if it was last year everyone would be saying how awesome the fluking is.  We would have limited out on 18' plus fish!  As it was 18 fares had 18 keepers with over 100 total fluke on the day.  Still a lot of fun!  Below are some photos from the day:

Wednesday, July 11, 2007
Awesome fluking today if we were going by last years limit!  We would have had 50-70 keepers over 18 inches for 20 fares.  But nonetheless.....lots of action and 15 fatties were kept for the cutting table.

Sunday, July 8, 2007
Great rip this morning aboard the CQIII with Paul Buckley and friends.  Chunked up some real nice bass to 32 lbs on the outgoing tide.

We had a lot of action on our fluke trip today  in Smithtown Bay.  There were enough keepers to go round as the bait rigs out fished the bucktails today.

Should be some good tides coming up this week for the bass and blues on our middle ground trips.   Below are a few pictures from yesterday:

Wednesday, July 4, 2007
Very good fluke bite going on right now in Smithtown Bay.  Tons of bait up in the shallows 4 - 10 feet of water.  Those anglers working both bait rigs and bucktails are catching very well.  For those of you who like fishing the skinny water, now is the time!!!

Yesterdays charter caught a ton of bass and blues diamond jigging on the incoming tide.  Largest bass was 20 lbs and several blues pushed the 10 lb mark.  With all the bass and blues around right now and due to popular demand, we have now begun our afternoon Middle Ground Madness trips which will be a combo trip for Striped Bass, Blues, Porgies and Sea Bass.

Saturday, June 30, 2007
The fluking has decent at B11 this past week.  Lots of action on the 18-19 inch fluke with enough keepers to keep it interesting.  Fluking has also been very good in Smithtown Bay this week fishing the shallow water.  Lots of bait in the bay which will hopefully keep the fish around for a while longer.

Besides a few slow trips, the evening porgy bite continues to please as plenty of big scup are providing some great action.  We did an experimental trip to some deep water drops today and were pleasantly surprised with a good catch of very large scup on a few of the wrecks.  The middle grounds also had some solid action as well.

Friday, June 22, 2007
We have seen some good shots of fluke at B11 recently.  Thursday morning saw a very good pick of nice fluke on the morning outgoing tide as 35 keepers were landed for 22 fares and many shorts.  Once the incoming started we lost the drift and fishing slowed for the rest of the trip.   But all in all still a very good day.

It was great fishing on Thursday's pm trip as the big porgies were chewin good off rocky point.  Lots of big scup!

Friday was very slow as the conditions were horrendous with the strong NW winds all day.  The pm trip was forced to fish in the harbor due to the winds but nonetheless caught very well!
Very good porgy fishing was had by all!  Below are pictures from the past few trips:

Capt Pete

Wednesday June 20, 2007
The bass fishing has been awesome this past week both chunking and diamond jigging!  Our small charters are seeing some great action on fish up to 18 lbs.

The fluke action has picked up considerable since last week.  We have seen a few good shots of fish a B11 the last few days.  The bite was tricky today but the fish are there.  High hook was 5 keepers and bait rigs were the ticket today over the bucktails.

Saturday, June 16, 2007
We just came off a week of awful weather.  East winds all week made for some lousy conditions.  The fluke fishing was very slow during the week but improved again the past several trips.  Lots of action on 18-19 inch fluke with enough keepers in the mix to keep it interesting.

The porgy fishing continues to be great!  Yesterday's pm trip saw another great haul of big scup to end the night. Saturdays Am trip  had a great shot of porgies to end the trip.  Great scuppin'  right now for the whole family!

Saturday, June 9, 2007
Thankfully......we got lucky with the weather today.  The rain held off until the very end of the trip and the east wind dropped right out in the morning.  Todays trip had a ton of action with a few hundred fluke caught with 28 keepers to 6 lbs.

We took a few drifts on some hard bottom as well and bailed big porgies.  The Sauter family lead the way with 8 keeper fluke, 3 of which were over 5 lbs to along with a bushel of big Porgies.

Tuesday, June 5, 2007
My friends tell me that fluking was HOT today! Great bite after the storm!

We did not sail yesterday and are doing educational trips today and wednesday with Capt Jerry McGrath. Caught a nice load of porgies with the kids today. A fun day for all the kids for sure.

Look forward to getting back to the hot fluke bite wednesday evening and thursday . below are some pictures from the trip

Sunday, June 3, 2007
Another very solid day on the fluke.  Had a real good shot of fish in the morning and another excellent shot of fish to end the trip.  Several anglers scored with 5 plus keepers apiece (orl)  Once again, if it was last years limit of 18, it would have been a Bail job!  Easily would have limited out the whole boat with high hooks well over 20 keepers!  One angler had nine fluke over 18 inches on the first drift alone!

Friday, June 1, 2007
What a day today aboard the CQIII !!!!!    The fluke fishing was awesome first thing in the morning on the incoming for the first hour or two.  We limited out on fluke to 6 lbs and threw back a ton of 18-19 inch fish.    Awesome fishing.

To top it off we then headed in off the beach and massacred huge porgies with some weighing in over 3 lbs!  Full boat limit was caught in no time.  Check out the video on the homepage to see some footage from todays trip to remember!

The CQII also got in on the action this morning landing 45 keepers with several sharpies catching their limit of quality fluke.  Great day all around!

Thursday, May 31, 2007
Very good fluking today!  19 fares had a steady pick of quality fluke all day with many fares limiting out.  Tons of 19 inch beauty throwbacks provided lots of action.  Even Bob and Tommy limited out!  Excellent fluking now!  Below are some pictures:

Thursday, May 30, 2007
Slow morning today on the fluke, but once that tide turned it all changed!  Very good bite on the first of the ebb especially on bucktails.  That seems to be the magic time the past few days.  Plenty of nice fluke to 6 lbs.   High hook was 5 keepers.

Yesterday saw some great blackfishing aboard the CQIII for Dennis and friends.  The blacks were snappin good with a great bite on quality tog to 7 lbs on crabs.  A fun day to end the spring tog season!

Sunday, May 27, 2007
Some body of fluke around right now!  Today was great fishing again.  Capt Pete ran the CQIII today and limited out on fluke to 6lbs. in a half day.  We had some excellent action on the CQII as well with over 50 keepers and a few hundred 18 plus inch fish released!  If it was last years limit, high hooks today would have been over 25 keepers! Nonetheless, several sharpies managed their limit.

Lou and John were on fire landing over 40 fluke between them, 13 of which were keepers!  Bucktails were the way to go.

Light tackle bucktailing at its finest right now.    Below are a few pics from the last few trips:

Saturday May 26,2007
Despite the heavy boat traffic there was some very good fishing. The morning bite for fluke was especially good with a ton of action and plenty of keepers. CQII ended the day with over 50 keepers to 6 lbs.

The morning charter on the CQIII saw some very good bucktailing with fish to 5.8 lbs. We also had a few good drifts in deeper water today (30-40 ft).

Big body of fluke around right now and a ton of sandeels to hopefully keep them here for a while.

If it fluke you are after Now is the time to fish the North Shore!

Thursday, May 24, 2007
Real good fluking continues.  Today's 1/2 day charter on the CQIII limited out on fluke to 5 lbs.  Ton of action and at several occasions all four anglers were hooked up at the same time.

The CQII also had very good results with 60 keepers for the day and a ton of throwbacks.  Pool fish was 6.5 lbs.  If we were going by last years standards, today the entire boat would have easily limited out on 18" plus fish !  It seems that every year the average fish gets larger and larger.  Last year we had a lot of fish 17-18 inch range.  This year, we have a ton of 18-19 inch fluke.

It is making for some great action though, especially for those who like to bucktail.    And thankfully there are plenty of keepers in the mix as well.  Below are pictures from the day:

Monday May 21, 2007
The water chilled down over 5 degrees over the weekend with the northeast wind that blew through.  Slowed the bite down over the weekend but nonetheless we still put together some respectable catches of fluke.   Some quality fish around with several fluke weighing in over 7 lbs.  Largest fluke of the week went to the girl scout troop with an 8 lb beauty!

Sunday mornings half day charter on the CQIII saw a lot of action for John and friends who limited out on fluke to 5 lbs.

Todays trip saw a lot of 19 inch fish as the water warmed up a bit and the bite improved.  Ton of throwbacks but many sharpies on board managed their limit.  High hook was 7 keepers. (ORL) Below are a few pics from the trip:

Awesome fluke trip today.  11 fares limited out on fluke to 7lbs!!
Great bite with lots of 18-19 inch fish released as well.  High hook was 9 keepers.   If it was last years 18 inch limit we would have limited out by 10:30.  Bucktails again were the key.  If you like shallow water, light tackle fluking at is best, now is the time!  This is some run of quality fish right now!

Tuesday May 15, 2007
We didnt have enough fares to sail today, but the crew decided on account of the great fishing to go anyway.

The fluke were chewin' once again right outside the harbor. Limited out in no time on bucktails.

This is a great early season bite for sure.

Monday May 14, 2007
First day a fluking to day turned out to be a great success!

13 fares fluked for half day landing 35 keepers with many in the 4-5 lb class. High hook was 9 keepers!

For those who were willing to bucktail, the fluke action was excellent.

Also heard a report from a boat to the west of us that had a great day as well. Lots of sandeels around. Things are looking good. Lets hope the bite holds up.

Below are a few pics from the trip:

Friday May 11, 2007
Excellent day blackfishing aboard the CQIII.  Dennis and his gang enjoyed a solid bite all day long with many quality tog in the mix. Total for the day was  35 keepers to 8.5 lbs for 4 anglers.   Green crabs were definitely the way to go today.   Fun day all around.  Below are some pics from the trip:

Wednesday , May 9, 2007
Blackfishing was much improved today!  Plenty of nice sized tog today up to 6.8 lbs.  Lots of life on the pieces compared to last week.  Nice to see the bigger fish finally chewin'.

Below is a picture of Capt Jack who won the pool and was also high hook with 7 keepers.

Tuesday, May 8, 2007
We did not sail over the weekend and have been doing educational trips the last few days.  Today we did some seining for plankton and towed a dredge for some bottom samples.  Dan, our local expert did a great job teaching all the kids about the local marine life.  Below are a few pictures of the plankton taken from the microscope we set up in the cabin.

We will be doing these educational trips all week with the exception of Wednesday and Sunday.  Plenty of room on those days if you would like to join us for some Tog fishing!

Just wanted say thanks to everyone who made yesterdays seminar trip such a great success. Thanks Togmaster, EC, and Noreast for all the support and choosing to host the seminar on our boat. We really appreciate it. It is a great concept and I hope everyone walked away with some new ideas. Hopefully we can do it again sometime.

Thankfully a few blacks finally started to bite. LuckyLindy led the way with a 6lb black. Linda 'Lady Reeler' Tuttle was a close second. I think the only guys who didnt catch anything were Togmaster and EC Newelman!! Just kidding. Actually, they spent their time walking around the boat offering some great advice on how to catch blackfish.

It has been a real late season this year but as the water continues to warm looks like we should have a good week of blackfishing coming up.

below are a few pictures from the trip.

April 26, 2007

It has been a very slow start to the season, but things are looking up!  We began on April 20 and fished the next three days.  The water temp was a chilling 40.7 degrees when we began and there was very little life on the wrecks.

Thankfully with the week of warm weather water temps have now risen into the high 40's and the blackfish are starting to stir.  On account of the slow fishing we decided not to sail for a few days but we did fish yesterday and found a lot more life compared to the week prior.  It wasn't great fishing by any means,  but 6 fares did manage 7 keepers and 20 shorts which was a lot better than catching next to nothing like the week before.

Just getting started and the bite should continue to improve with these warmer temps.  We are sailing everyday for blackfish.   Plenty of room on all trips.   Just give a call if you would like to join us.

Also if anyone is interested in setting up a blackfish charter for up to 4 guys on the Celtic Quest III, just let me know.
