The blackfishing was very good all week with plenty of fish 8-10 lbs.
Of course, right on time, yesterdays trip with the Noreast gang saw eastery winds and the slowest tog bite of the year. Oh well.
Today was awesome though. One of the best trips of the year. Great day.
Still have spots open for the upcoming week.
The bite is most certainly not over yet so give a call if you want to join us!

Excellent Blackfishing right now.
Some big fish around too. Last three trips have seen fish weighed in over 10 lbs with the largest of the week 11.5 lbs. Many more in the 7-9 lb range. Water is 56-57 degrees so hopefully the bite holds up for at least a few more weeks. Check the website to see some recent photos from this week. www.celticquestfishing.com
Plenty of space still available after Nov 14 - Desmond

Tuesday Nov 2, 2004 - Blackfish
Spent the last 2 days at the dock due to the bad weather.  We were able to fish today though and the bite was very good.  Some good size fish today with several over 7 lbs and the pool over 9 lbs.
Had the first good bite in the deeper water today 80-100 feet.
Tomorrow is a bust with the wind but hopefully Thursday we will get out again. - Desmond

Thursday, October 25, 2004
Finally got out today for the first trip in two weeks.
Blackfish were biting good!! Plenty of fish to go around. Several guys had their limit of blacks to 8 lbs. High hook was 20 keepers of which only their was kept. Best bite was in 40-50 feet of water. Great start to the fall season. - Desmond

Some weather. The blackfish are out there but we just cant a break in the weather.
By the time conditions finally improve hopefully for Saturday, we will have sailed only one trip in the past 12 days, that being last wednesdays trip October 13.
Should be good when we finally get out again. The water has cooled off, the fish have started to bite in deeper water.
Only a few people signed up so far for trips next week. Plenty of room if you want to join us on what will hopefully be the beginning of a great month of blackfishing.

Bail job on the porgies today out at the Middle. All you wanted on the morning change of tide. Some nice sea bass and blues too. It has been great all week eaast of the light.
Few blackfish are coming up now but nothing great yet. Some bigger ones are starting to show 5-7 lbs. Water is still 67-68 degrees.
A few degrees cooler and it should be good.
Hopefully after this next blow.

October 1, 2004
Opening day for Blackfish. Surprisingly good day today for blackfish!
Wasn't expecting too much with the water temp still around 69 today.
Started the day on a piece in 50 ft and had a real good catch of porgies with a mix of some big sea bass to 4 lbs.
Then moved inshore a bit where we caught where we had a decent pick of blackfish mostly on crabs. Ended up with 25 keepers and many shorts which is a great start considering how warm it still is.
Finished the day back out in the deeper water for a nice pick of scup.

September 18,2004
When the weather allows, the fishing has been very good. Yesterday was a great day! Lots of blues at B11 and awesome porgy fishing off Old Field. Big scup! All fares limited out! The chunking has also been very good for big blues and a few bass on days when we have a light crowd. We will begin wreck fishing for blackfish, sea bass and porgies on October 1. Give a call for more details.  - Desmond

September 15, 2004
Well, the weather has been atrocious many days this past week. Even when it is sunny and warm, strong eastery winds have made for real lousy fishing conditions. When we do get out, the bottom fishing continues to be very good with lots of nice size porgies and sea bass (which we unfortunatley have been throwing back) with the best fishing at the middle grounds. The jigging slowed a bit this week, though some nice blues and a few stripers are being caught on clams and chunks. The jigging should pick up again real soon. We will begin wreck fishing on Oct 1 for blackfish, sea bass and porgies.  Still plenty of space available on the blackfish trips but book now if you can as many of the choice days are filling up fast!  - Desmond

September 7, 2004 - Tuesday
The weather has been lousy the past few days but finally improved today. We were able to get back out to the middle grounds and fishing picked up right where it had left off. The rip was loaded with all the blues you wanted on the morning tide. Excellent diamond jigging. After most everyone easliy maxed out we tried for some porgies around the rip but with all the blues around it was only a pick.  Headed east of the light in 60 feet of water and had a good catch of scup to round out the day.
Book your choice dates for blackfish now!

September 2, 2004 - Thursday

T
he bluefishing was phenominal yesterday on the day trip. The evening saw some good bluefishing to start the night off B11 and then finished the night with a great catch of porgies. Full buckets all around. Today we headed out 2 miles, got beat up and turned around and came home. NE15-20 with a hard outgoing tide wasnt pretty. Another fine job in weather forecasting for the sound. NE 5-10, seas 1 foot or less. Yeah right! Anyway, fishing is great right now and should continue from here on out. Also, we are now booking spots for blackfish which will begin in October. Give a call for a spot at the rail!

August 27,2004 - Friday

Very, very good day today.
Started off with great bluefishing off Port Jeff. Then we headed to the middle and caught a nice load of big porgies. To end the day we headed back inshore and finished up with some great drifts again on the blues. Full coolers all around! Last night was also very good on both the blues and the porgies
.

August 25, 2004 - Wednesday
Very good day today. Started with a limit catch on nice size porgies drifting near the rip in the middle grounds. Finished the day with some great drifts on the bluefish off Port Jefferson. We didnt sail yesterday during the day but the evening trip saw some real good porgy action in the middle again as did Monday night. With the slack tide in the middle of the trip, not much time was spent on the blues, though a few nice fish were landed. The big scup have settled in now at the middle and we should hopefully see great results here on out for the remainder of the season.

August 22, 2004 - Saturday,
Very good the last few days both on the blues and Porgies..
Thursday saw some good action on the blues North of the lighthouse and then a great drop on big porgies to end the trip with most limiting out.
Friday's trip was looking a little slow on the bottom fishing with the hard tide but luckily the bluefishing was fantastic in the afternoon to end the trip. We didn't sail yesterday during the day but the weather cleared up nicley for the evening and the jigging was awesome! Blues were feasting on the big butterfish in the middle and some drifts lasted up to 20 minutes! Great night.

August 19, 2004 - Thursday
Capt Chris just reported in that last nights trip to the Middle Ground was absolutely phenominal. All out massacre of the blues on jigs with the entire boat hooking up almost every drift throughout the night.
The porgy bite up by the light was also great to end the night. Everyone filled with delight!

August 18, 2004 - Wednesday
Middle Grounds is alive and Well!
Very good drop on big porgies to start the day. Limits were not a problem. Also had some real good drifts on the bluefish on the incoming tide. Many big schools of bunker today which we haven't seen in the middle for many years. Last night saw a good catch of blues on the jigs off Port Jeff to start the night. Then headed to the middle and bailed the scup to finish the trip.

August 17,2004 - Monday
The weather has kept us at the dock a lot recently. But we did finally sail again last night. The slack tide was right in the middle of the trip so we didn't spend much time on the jigging. We did have a good catch of big porgies on a wreck and we also did very well in the rip in the middle grounds to end the night. The porgies have finally set up good in the rip which is great to see. Today saw a decent catch of big scup to start the day. The jigging was slow in the middle, but we did find a big school of bunker and blues off cranes. Drifting chunks of bunker into the school worked best as many nice sized blues to ten lbs were landed.

August 11, 2004 - Wednesday
Monday's day trip was decent. No bail job like the past few days but some managed their limit of blues on the day. The evening trip was great though! Awesome jigging on some huge piles of blues in the deep water. To top it off, the porgy bite was very good on some real big scup. A great night. Tuesday was an all around great day. excellent catch of big porgies to over 2 lbs. Some had their limit on only one drop. Excellent jigging with all the blues you wanted. Great day. We didn't sail today because of the weather :( Try again tomorrow.

August 10,2004 - Tuesday
Monday's day trip was decent. No bail job like the past few days but some managed their limit of blues on the day. The evening trip was great though! awesome jigging on some huge piles of blues in the deep water. To top it off, the porgy bite was very good on some real big scup. A great night.

August 8, 2004 - Sunday
The diamond jigging was extraordinary on Friday both day and evening trips. Huge 90 foot piles of bluefish in the deepwater off Flax pond. Some drifts lasted over 25 minutes with an all out bail job. Saturday saw a few great drifts on the bluefish again off flax, but for some reason fishing was much slower on the day. Today it was great again with Captain Chris at the wheel. The day started with some great jigging off cranes.
Then fished the deep water on the change of tide in the middle and had an excellent catch of big porgies to over 2 lbs.
Bailed the blues again out in the middle to finish the day!

Friday, August 6, 2004
Awesome diamond jigging trip again last night. The hard north wind had all the bait pushed up off Port Jefferson. It was a massacre. Acres and acres of fish and birds working. A beautiful sight!

Thursday August 5, 2004
Another great jigging trip last night.
Middle grounds was the spot. Lots of bass in the mix last night, both shorts and keepers plus all the blues you wanted with some bigger fish over 10 lbs. Hopefully the great fishing will continue after this blow moves through.

Monday, August 2, 2004
The past few days have seen some awesome fishing!
Good catch of blues with a few bass in the mix out at the middle again on the day trip. The evening trip was an all out slaughter also in the middle. All you want. Everyone limited.  Still some Big porgies in the deep water though with the bass and blue fishing so good, we have not done as much bottom fishing recently. The bluefish are everywhere right now, fish on the surface, even some huge schools in the deep water. Tons of butterfish and rain bait in the area. Lets hope they stick around.
