When the weather allows we have been picking away at the
blackfish in the 40 -70 foot depths. The past few
trips have seen 25-40 keepers per trip with the pool 8-9 lbs for
mostly light crowds. Yesterday, 16 anglers had 37 keepers with
Joe Deptula winning the pool for the first time in many many years!
We will be sailing again hopefully
Wednesday after this windy weather passes. Here are a few
pictures from this weeks trips.

The black fishing was picky this week as the moon tides really
slowed the bite down. 18-65 keepers were landed per trip with
some big fish in the 8-10 lb class but not the numbers like we saw
last week.
The water is still plenty warm and
hopefully after this moon the bite will pick up again!
We will be sailing again on Wednesday.

BAILED the blacks today!!!!! Some bite especially on the
morning tide! Many limits with high hooks well into the teens!

Slayed the blacks today !!!!! They were chewin good all day.

Terrible start to the day.....awesome finish!!!
It was lousy, rough conditions this morning. The waves were
rolling in good and the bite was non- existent on the first few
drops. We were contemplating even calling it a trip and
heading in early when Capt Pete finally hooked a nice
blackfish..then a few more came over.....
The sound started to calm down a bit so we
decided, what the hell, we made it this far lets keep trying.
Our charter agreed so we rolled the dice and headed off to a little
honey hole that we thought should hold a few fish...and boy Im glad
we did.
Over 90 keepers for our charter of 25
people were landed in the final 40 minutes of fishing as the blacks
were biting their heads off to end the day!!! Great way to
end.

Black fishing has been picky the past few days with
30 -50 keepers per trip. Considering the conditions today,
with the new moon and east wind we put together a decent day.
55 keeper blacks were landed with some real big fish in the mix.
Chris had the pool winning slob which
weighed in at 11.5 lbs !! Bill had second with another fine
tog weighed in a 10 lbs.
After this blow and the moon pass, it
should be some great fishing!

Finally got out again after a few days at the dock.
Once the sound settled down a bit, we had the best bite of the
season so far during the afternoon. 71 keepers to 8 lbs were
caught by today's charter. After a slow start to the day it
was a nice way to finish.
The water has finally cooled down a bit and
hopefully this is just the beginning of good things to come.

Finally a day with some calm weather! Fished Saturday in a
southerly gale for 14 keepers to 8.5 lbs. Sunday, 17 diehards
fished a northerly gale for 21 keepers to 7 lbs.
Finally today the sound laid down a bit.
It actually felt like a real blackfishing trip for the first time
with the cool temps. We even had to put the cabin heat on!
Now thats more like it!
The bite was good on the first few drops
with 40 keeper blacks coming over the rail. The bite shut down
for the ladder part of the incoming but none the less it was nice to
see a decent shot of fish on the morning tide. We had a few
big fish as well including an 11 lb beauty caught by Marlon !!!
Hopefully this is just the beginning of
good things ahead!

We only sailed Monday and Wednesday this week so far due to the
weather. Similar results as last week with of pick of tog to 9
lbs, some sea bass, and a good amount of extremely large wreck
porgies. Everyone is going home with plenty of fish for
dinner. Hopefully this blow and the passing of this moon tide will
really get the blacks going for the upcoming week.

Another beautiful day out there. Despite the water temp
rising several degrees the last few days we continue to pick away at
the tog. Today we landed 26 keeper blacks, several of them
over 5 lbs. The pool was won by Josh Tally and weighed in at 9
lbs. Nice fish!
Lots of very large wreck porgies rounded out the catch as well as a
few sea bass. We have had similar results on all our trips
this week as the fall bottom fishing continues to be quite decent.

Another great day! 22 fares enjoyed beautiful warm weather
and lots of fish to go with it! A few of the wrecks had a ton
of life on them. Total for the day was 30 keeper blacks, 45
sea bass and hundreds of very large wreck porgies up to 3 lbs.
Capt Jack from the Port Jeff Ace was out
and easily had his limit of jumbo scup, keeping only 25 large ones
which all measured over 14 inches. Fred Zaiter led
the way with 4 keeper blacks and the pool was caught by Winston
weighing in at 8 lbs!
We are sailing an School educational
charter tomorrow and will be black fishing again on Saturday.

Great day out there today. Fished several pieces from
30-60 feet of water and had an excellent catch of blackfish and sea
bass. Total for the day for our 15 fares was 40 keeper blacks
up to 8lbs and 55 keeper sea bass many of them jumbo sized!
There was also lots of big porgies for those who wanted them.
Things are just getting started. Good days are ahead!

Togs are starting to bite a bit! Today we fished a few
pieces of structure in 20- 40 feet of water and found life on all of
them. Total for the day was 30 keepers up to 8 lbs.
Yesterday's charter saw great action all
day long. Our first drop was on a deep water wreck which
produced an excellent catch of large to extra large porgies, a few
sea bass and lots of blues.
As the tide picked up the south rip came to
life with tons of blues and birds working. We had several
great drifts diamond jigging the blues. One the way home we
made a stop at B11 for another 4 good drifts on the blues and
schoolie bass. Very good trip.

The water temps have cooled off a bit after this blow.
We had a bunch of nice sized blacks today...17 keepers total up to 7
lbs. Looks like things are picking up a bit compared to the
beginning of the week.
Yesterday, we just had a few keeper
tog....but lots of big porgies and some sea bass fishing several
wrecks and rock piles near the middle grounds. All
in all, good fall bottom fishing right now.

We have not sailed all week due to the weather. There has
been a lot of life on the wrecks now with big porgies, decent number
of sea bass, blues, and a few blackfish. All in all, very good
bottom fishing right now when the weather allows us to fish.
Hopefully the blow chilled things down a
bit and we should see more and more blackfish with each passing day.

Only 2 fares showed up today but with such beautiful
weather and the smell of tog in the air we decided it was too nice
of a day not to go fishing!
Brian and Billy along with Capt Pete and
myself enjoyed a solid pick of nice sized tog today as we landed
20 blacks, 12 of which were keepers up to 7lbs. Greenies did
the trick on the morning tide before calling it a trip around noon
time.
Nice day out there and once again amazing to be catching blackfish
in 80 degree weather!

Well......opening day was a lot of fun but unfortunately the
blacks decided to get lock jaw. We did manage 6 keepers with
one which weighed in over 7 lbs but they just were not feeding
aggressively like they were a few days ago.
We used our underwater camera on a few of
the spots and you could see many big blacks just swimming by our
baits uninterested for what ever reason. But they are down
there and who know maybe tomorrow they might turn on again!
We did manage a bunch of porgies and a few
sea bass and a keeper bass. The south rip at the middle had a
decent amount of life to end the trip with a few drifts on the
porgies. Capt Chris slayed the big blues and porgies there on
yesterdays pm trip.
All I can say it that it was great to be black fishing even if it
wasnt the best trip we ever had.

We did not have any fares to sail today, but with such beautiful
weather we decided to go on a crew trip to test a few of the
blackfish drops for the upcoming season.
Fishing in near 90 degree temps in shorts and t-shirts...we are
pleased to report that the blackfish were biting very well!!
Myself, Capt Chris, Capt Pete, and Capt Rich (SeaHag II) had 19
keeper blacks to 8lbs many of them caught on whole green crabs
fishing the morning tide. (see pictures below)
Our season starts Monday for blackfish and we are happy to see that
they are biting. Now, it can always be a challenge for the first few
weeks of the season and I dont want this report to be blown out of
proportion....when the water is still warm sometimes they can get a
little tough to find.....but all I can report is that they were
biting well today and hopefully starting monday we will catch a mix
of nice blacks and a few sea bass to go with the already solid porgy
fishing.
The bottom fishing continues to be solid fishing mainly wrecks
and rock piles which are holding a good number of big scup, blues
and a few sea bass.
Capt Chris just reported in from the evening trip that they had a
nice catch of big porgies fishing a wreck in 80 feet of water. On
the night 6 fares tallied 70 scup to 2 lbs.
We are Sailing everyday on our wreck/bottom fishing trips for
Porgies, sea bass, bluefish......and starting Monday......TOG!!!!!!

Fishing has been very solid this week. Yesterday saw a
slow start on the jigs to start the trip but improved as Captain
Chris hit a few of his favorite wrecks and rock piles for a a nice
pick of big porgies and blues.
Our charter on the CQIII for Joe Deptula, Vinnie and Al saw
great bottom fishing as over 100 jumbo scup were landed in only two
hours fishing a piece of bottom in 40 feet of water. A few
blues rounded out the catch. Great trip.
Captain Pete took out a night charter on
the CQII and also fared well. He set up in near a wreck
in 80 feet of water and had solid action on the blues to 10 lbs on
bunker chunks.
All in all it has been some real good fall
fishing this week as most of the bottom structure now is holding a
good amount of big porgies and blues and a few sea bass. Due
to popular demand we will now be doing our Full day Wreck and Bottom
Fishing Special sailing everyday from 7am-2pm. Hope to see

Decent day today despite the east winds and lousy
conditions. We were forced to fish Smithtown bay to get out of
the weather and found a nice pile of big blues to jig in the
morning. The bottom fishing saw a lot of action but there not
too many keeper porgies. Once things calmed down a bit we hit
a few schools of blues off Port Jeff harbor to end the trip.
Not a bad day considering the conditions.
Yesterdays pm trip saw some great diamond
jigging for the first two hours of the trip as there were blues
everywhere around Old Field Point. The porgie fishing was slow
to end the trip but some nice size scup were kept.
Luck was on our side again on Saturday
night as the 30 knot NW winds forced us to fish in the harbor most
of the trip. Thankfully we located a massive school of blues
that had the peanut bunker pinned up against the LIPA dock. We
caught a ton of fish to end the trip and everyone went home happy.

We did not sail Tuesday with the bad weather. Wednesday
wasn't much better as the west wind was blowing up to 30 knots in
the am. Our charter still wanted to go and after a slow
morning with the high winds, the conditions finally improved mid day
and the fish gods rewarded this hearty bunch as several huge schools
of bluefish appeared in the final hour of the trip. The
jigging was great to end the trip and everyone went home happy.
Today's trip was similar to yesterdays as the morning fishing was
slow. Our charter opted to stay with the blue fishing
nonetheless and thankfully it paid off. Capt Chris
located a few nice schools boiling around the harbor and the jigging
was very good to end the trip.

Fishing has been excellent this week! The amount of blues
around the inlet and B11 is incredible the past few weeks.
Last night, everywhere you looked you could see fish boiling on the
surface. The last several pm trips have seen great jigging!
Some trips we haven't even made it out of the harbor as big schools
have been stacked up on the west side of the harbor.
Other nights the fish have been from the inlet all the way to B11.
The un down bite has been especially good.
After everyone has had their fill diamond
jigging, we have been switching over to bottom fishing for some
decent porgy fishing on the local rockpiles.
It hasnt been a bail job, but everyone is managing a bunch of nice
sized porgies and a few sea bass to round out their catch. All
in all, a very good week.

It was some savage boil of bluefish last night inside the
harbor!! Go figure...even with all the labor day boat
traffic the blues were going crazy off poquot like we haven't seen
in years. Got on them for several amazing drifts until they
finally scattered. Exciting fishing to say the least.
Today started out a little slow on the
bunker chunks. We switched over and picked away at some nice
porgies at the middle grounds and then to end the trip all hell
broke loose! There was a massive pile of blues off the harbor
and our 6 fares tallied over 50 blues in no time! Great way to
end the trip.

Fishing has been very, very good on most trips this week.
The best action has been right outside the harbor as acres of blues
are feasting on peanut bunker. Last night was a bail job on
the blues with several limit catches in the first hour. Today
was also awesome off Old Field again with all the blues you wanted.
The porgy fishing has also been very good
as the fish are starting to set up now on some of the deeper wrecks
and rock piles around the Middle Grounds. We had a few
drops this week on some of the wrecks which produced very well on
jumbo scup. There also has been some excellent porgy
fishing at the mouth of the harbor.

Very good fishing the past few days. Yesterday saw some
great action on the jigs all morning long chasing numerous schools
of surface blues. The pm trip saw a few good shots of fish but
they were moving fast and more difficult to catch.
Nonetheless, those who were willing to fish hard put together a good
catch.
Today the jigging was very good to start
the day right outside the harbor. Lots of cocktail blues were
boiling outside the inlet and we had several good drifts to start
the trip. Captain Bill then located some nice schools of
bunker with big blues underneath them. 1st mate Tommy worked
hard snagging the bunker for everyone. The fresh bunker was
what the big blues wanted as we enjoyed a solid pick of very big
blues for the rest of the trip.
Though we did not try bottom fishing today,
the porgy fishing broke wide open the past few days at the middle.
Lots of big jumbos have been caught in the rock piles. We will
incorporate some of this fine bottom fishing into our trips when
conditions are right to go along with the great diamond jigging.

Thankfully this awful weather is finally moving out. We
did not sail for 3 days with all the wind and rain. We finally
got out again last night but fishing was very slow as everything was
really stirred up. Had a few fish to start the night and there
was some cocktail blues in the harbor, but it was a tough trip.
Today was much better though!
We had great action on the jigs with some huge piles of fish on the
morning tide. Lots of blues came over the rails and it was
great to see that the fishing was very good like it was before the
bad weather.

Yesterdays trips were very slow due to the awful weather.
The NW winds really had everything stirred up out there and the bite
was way off. We were forced to fish in the harbor
much of the day as the conditions were just too lousy. Today's am
trip was better though. It wasn't the great fishing from
earlier in the week but nonetheless we had some good shots of blues
in the morning east of b11. Once the tide dropped out the bite
ended but everyone got a few for dinner.
The CQIII had an excellent day today chunking very large blues near
a deep water wreck. We also had a short bass to go along with
all the giant blues you wanted. Top fish was in the low teens
today!

Very good day today on both trips. There has been a ton of
fish working huge schools of peanut bunker in the deep water off
B11. The day trip started off slow to the west but once the
fish were located it was awesome diamond jigging for the rest of the
trip. for the rest of the trip.
Despite the lousy weather on the pm trip
the fishing remained excellent. A few very large schools of
blues were located on the surface and the jigging was great.
Some fish were very large as well up to 12 lbs!

Tons of fish out there today. The CQIII had great action
on the jigs today with blues up to 10 lbs. AS the tide eased
off we chunked a deep water rock pile and had a bunch of big blues
to 12 lbs and a nice bass of 20 lbs.
The CQII also enjoyed awesome fishing on
the jigs. The day began in the middle with some big piles of
fish on the north side. We then headed off cranes where there
was acres and acres of blues on the surface. It was excellent
fishing to say the least for the remainder of the trip.

Great day out there today!!!
The CQIII slayed the giant blues on the chunk in the deep water with
Capt Dane at the helm. They also managed a few keeper striped bass
up to 24 lbs!! Great trip.
The CQII enjoyed great action at the middle ground chasing the bass
and blues. The north rip was lit up with tons of blues chasing
anchovies on the outgoing tide. We also had a bunch of schoolie
bass. The whole rip had fish as there was an extraordinary amount of
bait around. Thankfully the wind and seas laid down and the fish
really turned on!

The jigging on the north side of the Middle Grounds was an
absolute slaughter today!! All the fish you wanted in 20- 30
feet of water! Awesome fishing!
The past few days have also been very good
both at the middle and on some of the deeper rock piles.
Some nice bass have been coming off some of the deeper spots.
We had a few good shots on the porgies as well on the pm trips but
the days have still been slow on the scup. But hopefully they
are starting to improve.

We have landed several big bass the past few trips. Joe
Constantino had a 28 lb bass on a jig fishing a rock pile last night.
Lots of cocktail blues have been all along the beach and in the
inlet.
The middle grounds has also produced well
the past few trips as there has been a decent amount of blues on the
north side. We had a good shot of them this morning until the
tide eased off.

The captains choice combo continues to see decent results on the
day trip. The fluking is holding up quite well with anywhere
from 10 - 20 keepers being landed on most trips. The best
fluking now is coming off the deeper edges in 30-50 feet of water.
We have also been adding in some bass and blues and a few porgies
and sea bass to round out the catch.
The diamond jigging has ranged from red hot to slow. There
have been a lot of surface blues at the middle grounds in the
shallow water. Some trips have seen some excellent shots of
fish with some bass in the mix. A nice keeper bass won the
pool last night. A few trips this past week the blues did a
disappearing act and were hard to find. But all in all jigging
has been good.
The porgy fishing has been on the slow side
the past several days. The ones we are catching are very large
but hopefully after these hard currents ease off a little the scupin'
should improve.

Today was one of those days fisherman dream of! On our
morning charter Capt Chris located some huge schools of bunker and
big blues out in the deep water. It was a total bail job
on giant blues all morning on bunker chunks. As soon as you
got your chunk below the bunker school you could see countless
big blues going after the bait.. It is quite a site to see,
one which never gets old!
Yesterday saw the continued awesome fluke action. Incredible
amount of fluke here this year. With last years regs it would
have been yet another limit out trip for all 17 anglers as most of
the fish are 18-19 inches. High hooks would have been in the
double digits. Nonetheless, 18 keepers were landed up to
4.5 lbs and a fun day was had by all.

Insane fluke bite today! 19 fares landed nearly 400 fluke
on the day many of which were over 18 inches. Nearly 60 of
last years keepers were in the boat by 9am. Last year we would have
limited out all fares by 11 am. We did manage 15
keepers on the day. Some great action right now.

Tremendous action on the fluke with 18 -19 inch fish.
Enough keepers in the mix to keep it interesting.
The PM Middleground trip had some good
action for 6 fares. A bunch of big blues to 10 lbs and a
keeper bass hit the jigs on the outgoing tide. Finished the
trip with a pick of some very big scup. All in all, a nice
middle ground mixed bag.

Great trip aboard the CQIII today. Capt Pete put em
on the meat! Lots of nice bass to 25 lbs and some big blues.
Finished the trip bucktailing a handful of keeper fluke.
The CQII again had a ton of action off B11.
Not to sound like a broken record but if it was last year everyone
would be saying how awesome the fluking is. We would have
limited out on 18' plus fish! As it was 18 fares had 18
keepers with over 100 total fluke on the day. Still a lot of

Awesome fluking today if we were going by last years limit! We
would have had 50-70 keepers over 18 inches for 20 fares. But
nonetheless.....lots of action and 15 fatties were kept for the

Great rip this morning aboard the CQIII with Paul Buckley and
friends. Chunked up some real nice bass to 32 lbs on the
outgoing tide.
We had a lot of action on our fluke trip today in
Smithtown Bay. There were enough keepers to go round as the
bait rigs out fished the bucktails today.
Should be some good tides coming up this
week for the bass and blues on our middle ground trips.

Very good fluke bite going on right now in Smithtown Bay.
Tons of bait up in the shallows 4 - 10 feet of water. Those
anglers working both bait rigs and bucktails are catching very well.
For those of you who like fishing the skinny water, now is the
time!!!
Yesterdays charter caught a ton of bass and blues diamond jigging on
the incoming tide. Largest bass was 20 lbs and several blues
pushed the 10 lb mark. With all the bass and blues around
right now and due to popular demand, we have now begun our afternoon
Middle Ground Madness trips which will be a combo trip for Striped
Bass, Blues, Porgies and Sea Bass.

The fluking has decent at B11 this past week. Lots of
action on the 18-19 inch fluke with enough keepers to keep it
interesting. Fluking has also been very good in Smithtown Bay
this week fishing the shallow water. Lots of bait in the bay
which will hopefully keep the fish around for a while longer.
Besides a few slow trips, the evening porgy
bite continues to please as plenty of big scup are providing some
great action. We did an experimental trip to some deep water
drops today and were pleasantly surprised with a good catch of very
large scup on a few of the wrecks. The middle grounds also had
some solid action as well.

We have seen some good shots of fluke at B11 recently.
Thursday morning saw a very good pick of nice fluke on the morning
outgoing tide as 35 keepers were landed for 22 fares and many
shorts. Once the incoming started we lost the drift and
fishing slowed for the rest of the trip. But all in all
still a very good day.
It was
great fishing on Thursday's pm trip as the big porgies were chewin
good off rocky point. Lots of big scup!
Friday was very slow as the conditions
were horrendous with the strong NW winds all day. The pm trip
was forced to fish in the harbor due to the winds but nonetheless
caught very well!

The bass fishing has been awesome this past week both chunking
and diamond jigging! Our small charters are seeing some great
action on fish up to 18 lbs.
The fluke action has picked up considerable since last week.
We have seen a few good shots of fish a B11 the last few days.
The bite was tricky today but the fish are there. High hook
was 5 keepers and bait rigs were the ticket today over the bucktails.

Thankfully......we got lucky with the weather today. The
rain held off until the very end of the trip and the east wind
dropped right out in the morning. Todays trip had a ton of
action with a few hundred fluke caught with 28 keepers to 6 lbs.
We took a few drifts on some hard bottom
as well and bailed big porgies. The Sauter family lead the way
with 8 keeper fluke, 3 of which were over 5 lbs to along with a
bushel of big Porgies.

My friends tell me that fluking was HOT today! Great bite after
the storm!
We did not sail yesterday and are doing educational trips today and
wednesday with Capt Jerry McGrath. Caught a nice load of porgies
with the kids today. A fun day for all the kids for sure.

Another very solid day on the fluke. Had a real good shot of
fish in the morning and another excellent shot of fish to end the
trip. Several anglers scored with 5 plus keepers apiece (orl)
Once again, if it was last years limit of 18, it would have been a
Bail job! Easily would have limited out the whole boat with
high hooks well over 20 keepers! One angler had nine fluke
over 18 inches on the first drift alone!

What a day today aboard the CQIII !!!!! The
fluke fishing was awesome first thing in the morning on the incoming
for the first hour or two. We limited out on fluke to 6 lbs
and threw back a ton of 18-19 inch fish. Awesome
fishing.
To top it off we then headed in off the beach and massacred
huge porgies with some weighing in over 3 lbs! Full boat limit
was caught in no time. Check out the video on the homepage to

The CQII also got in on the action this morning landing 45
keepers with several sharpies catching their limit of quality fluke.

Very good fluking today! 19 fares had a steady pick of
quality fluke all day with many fares limiting out. Tons of 19
inch beauty throwbacks provided lots of action. Even Bob and

Slow morning today on the fluke, but once that tide turned it
all changed! Very good bite on the first of the ebb especially
on bucktails. That seems to be the magic time the past few
days. Plenty of nice fluke to 6 lbs. High hook was
5 keepers.
Yesterday saw some great blackfishing aboard the CQIII for
Dennis and friends. The blacks were snappin good with a great
bite on quality tog to 7 lbs on crabs. A fun day to end the
spring tog season!

Some body of fluke around right now! Today was great
fishing again. Capt Pete ran the CQIII today and limited out
on fluke to 6lbs. in a half day. We had some excellent action
on the CQII as well with over 50 keepers and a few hundred 18 plus
inch fish released! If it was last years limit, high hooks
today would have been over 25 keepers! Nonetheless, several sharpies
managed their limit.
Lou and John were on fire landing over
40 fluke between them, 13 of which were keepers! Bucktails
were the way to go.

Despite the heavy boat traffic there was some very good fishing.
The morning bite for fluke was especially good with a ton of action
and plenty of keepers. CQII ended the day with over 50 keepers to 6
lbs.
The morning charter on the CQIII saw some very good bucktailing with
fish to 5.8 lbs. We also had a few good drifts in deeper water today
(30-40 ft).
Big body of fluke around right now and a ton of sandeels to
hopefully keep them here for a while.

Real good fluking continues. Today's 1/2 day charter on
the CQIII limited out on fluke to 5 lbs. Ton of action and at
several occasions all four anglers were hooked up at the same time.
The CQII also had very good results with
60 keepers for the day and a ton of throwbacks. Pool fish was
6.5 lbs. If we were going by last years standards, today the
entire boat would have easily limited out on 18" plus fish !
It seems that every year the average fish gets larger and larger.
Last year we had a lot of fish 17-18 inch range. This year, we
have a ton of 18-19 inch fluke.
It is making for some great action
though, especially for those who like to bucktail.
And thankfully there are plenty of keepers in the mix as well.

The water chilled down over 5 degrees over the weekend with the
northeast wind that blew through. Slowed the bite down over
the weekend but nonetheless we still put together some respectable
catches of fluke. Some quality fish around with several
fluke weighing in over 7 lbs. Largest fluke of the week went
to the girl scout troop with an 8 lb beauty!
Sunday mornings half day charter on the CQIII saw a lot of action
for John and friends who limited out on fluke to 5 lbs.
Todays trip saw a lot of 19 inch fish as
the water warmed up a bit and the bite improved. Ton of
throwbacks but many sharpies on board managed their limit.

Awesome fluke trip today. 11 fares limited out on fluke to
7lbs!!
Great bite with lots of 18-19 inch fish released as well. High
hook was 9 keepers. If it was last years 18 inch limit
we would have limited out by 10:30. Bucktails again were the
key. If you like shallow water, light tackle fluking at is
best, now is the time! This is some run of quality fish right
now!

We didnt have enough fares to sail today, but the crew decided
on account of the great fishing to go anyway.
The fluke were chewin' once again right outside the harbor. Limited
out in no time on bucktails.

First day a fluking to day turned out to be a great success!
13 fares fluked for half day landing 35 keepers with many in the 4-5
lb class. High hook was 9 keepers!
For those who were willing to bucktail, the fluke action was
excellent.
Also heard a report from a boat to the west of us that had a great
day as well. Lots of sandeels around. Things are looking good. Lets
hope the bite holds up.

Excellent day blackfishing aboard the CQIII. Dennis and
his gang enjoyed a solid bite all day long with many quality tog in
the mix. Total for the day was 35 keepers to 8.5 lbs for 4
anglers. Green crabs were definitely the way to go

Blackfishing was much improved today! Plenty of nice sized
tog today up to 6.8 lbs. Lots of life on the pieces compared
to last week. Nice to see the bigger fish finally chewin'.

We did not sail over the weekend and have been doing educational
trips the last few days. Today we did some seining for
plankton and towed a dredge for some bottom samples. Dan, our
local expert did a great job teaching all the kids about the local
marine life. Below are a few pictures of the plankton taken
from the microscope we set up in the cabin.
We will be doing these educational trips
all week with the exception of Wednesday and Sunday. Plenty of
room on those days if you would like to join us for some Tog

Just wanted say thanks to everyone who made yesterdays seminar
trip such a great success. Thanks Togmaster, EC, and Noreast for all
the support and choosing to host the seminar on our boat. We really
appreciate it. It is a great concept and I hope everyone walked away
with some new ideas. Hopefully we can do it again sometime.
Thankfully a few blacks finally started to bite. LuckyLindy led the
way with a 6lb black. Linda 'Lady Reeler' Tuttle was a close second.
I think the only guys who didnt catch anything were Togmaster and EC
Newelman!! Just kidding. Actually, they spent their time walking
around the boat offering some great advice on how to catch
blackfish.
It has been a real late season this year but as the water continues
to warm looks like we should have a good week of blackfishing coming
up.

April 26, 2007
It has been a very slow start to the season, but things are looking
up! We began on April 20 and fished the next three days.
The water temp was a chilling 40.7 degrees when we began and there
was very little life on the wrecks.
Thankfully with the week of warm weather
water temps have now risen into the high 40's and the blackfish are
starting to stir. On account of the slow fishing we decided
not to sail for a few days but we did fish yesterday and found a lot
more life compared to the week prior. It wasn't great fishing
by any means, but 6 fares did manage 7 keepers and 20 shorts
which was a lot better than catching next to nothing like the week
before.
Just getting started and the bite should
continue to improve with these warmer temps. We are sailing
everyday for blackfish. Plenty of room on all trips.

up a blackfish charter for up to 4 guys on the Celtic Quest III,

Togs are still chewin!!!
We did not sail for a few days. Today we got out with 7 fares plus crew. 65
keepers up to 9 lbs were landed on the day. Solid bite all day long despite the
strong wind and moon.

Awesome day out there yesterday. Togs
were biting their heads off before the blow. Lots of limit catches around the
boat with the pool fish around 9 lbs.
As a result of the great fishing and warm water temps, we have extended our
season and will be fishing through the weekend of December 10.

weighed in over 11 lbs!

Today the blackfish were snappin good. We captured over 230 keeper size
whitechins. The pool fish was 9.5 lbs and high hook was 18 (orl).
Awesome day. One of the best trips of the season!

Decent catch of tog again today. Nice pick on most drops today in 60-90 feet
of water. 120 keepers were landed with several in the 8-10 lb class. My mom even
landed an 8 lbder!

Insane Bail JOB today! 21 anglers enjoyed an awesome bite on quality
blackfish all morning long. We limited out, left them biting and were home

Wind and seas laid right down today. Nice pick of fish today with some very
big tog in the mix. Pool winner was over 10 lbs and a very big blackfish close
to 12 lbs that was not in the pool was caught and released to fight another day.

Friday and Saturday were slow and the bite was way off with the full moon.

Very good day today. 150 keepers were landed in short sleeves.

Some great weather recently to go along with a decent catch of blackfish today
considering the moon tides and warm water.
12 fares had 25 keepers to 7lbs. We fished a few wrecks and rock piles in 20-40
ft of water. Fun day.

lbs and some nice porgies and a few sea bass. Not a bail job by any means but

Great bottom fishing now. Blackfishing is just getting going as most
trips are seeing around 15-20 keepers on the day to go along with all the jumbo
scup you want and some big sea bass, bluefish and an occasional striped bass.
Great mixed bag action fishing mostly wrecks from 20 - 70 feet of water.
We have had some big tog to 9.5lbs the past few days.
The blackfish will continue to improve as the water cools. A few more
degrees and they should be biting good! Weather looks awful for the next
two day but Sunday and Monday look very nice if you would like to join us.

Opening day today was a great success. Despite the horrendous sea conditions
wind and rain, the blackfishing was very good as 17 anglers had 55 keeper
blackfish! Plenty of quality fish too with the pool around 8 lbs. Great start to
the season.
We will be blackfishing everyday now at 7am. Only 10 people have signed up for
tomorrows trip so far and very few have signed up for the rest of the week. Come

Very good catch of very large porgies in the morning today. Lots of blues
on every drop as well. Even had a keeper bass on a porgy hook. The
bite was a little picky later in the trip once the tide picked up but all in all
it was a good days fishing at the Middle Grounds.
Below are a few pictures of a huge water spout that developed off Port Jefferson
today. We all watched as the massive funnel cloud came closer and
closer......thankfully it broke up right before reaching us. wheew!!!

Blackfish start this Sunday, October 1 !!!
Hello there everyone. Hard to believe that fall is here already.
Fishing has been fantastic with tons of blues and porgies plus a few sea bass
and striped bass. The wrecks are full of fish right now and it only gets better
from here as the fall run has just begun!
Just want to let you all know that the 2006 Blackfish season will
begin this Sunday Oct 1 !
We will be sailing everyday at 7am till 3pm. The past two years, both opening
day trips have seen a nice shot of blackfish to go along with all the other fish
living on the wrecks.
Blackfishing is always the highlight of our season and Im sure you
all are just as excited as we are to get started!

Real tough day today with the terrible weather conditions. The strong
winds kept us on the beach all day and the bite was very slow.
The action bounced right back though on the afternoon trip as the wind and seas
calmed down and the fish started feeding again. We had some real good
shots on the blues at the Middle Grounds before the tide eased off.

Great day today! Spent the day wreck fishing and found great action on all
the pieces. The wrecks were loaded with blues up to 11 lbs, very large

Sorry for the delay in fishing reports. We spent most of last week at
the dock doing maintenance in preparation for the upcoming blackfish season.
But we are back and the great fishing has picked up right where it left off.
Most trips are seeing fantastic action at the Middle Grounds with lots of BIG
Humpback porgies and lots of blues. Sunday night was the only trip
so far that was on the slow side for no apparent reason
Today we only had a few fares so we decided to do
some wreck fishing. The wrecks had a ton of fish on them, mostly big scup
and lots of blues. We did manage some nice sea bass as well.
Catch of the day went to Joe Felicia who caught the
pool winning Striped Bass on a Porgie hook!

is here!
We will begin Blackfishing on Oct 1. If it is half as good as last year,
we will be very happy!

We had our Save the Fluke Fundraiser today. 15 fares came down to show
there support. We were able to raise $820 for the United Boatmen not to
mention all on board enjoyed a fantastic night of fishing at the Middle Grounds!
Great time was had by all.

for their willingness to help and to Captain Stew from the Osprey for paying for
the fuel. And a special thanks goes out to Dennis from Pennsylvania who

Diamond jigging the past few days has been fantastic at B11! Blues and
birds everywhere. This east wind really gets them going, though we did not
sail today with the weather. With the moon tides coming up it should
be some awesome fishing this week. Plenty of big porgies to
3lbs at the middle grounds and on the wrecks. The wrecks really load up when you
get a good blow like this. Hopefully we will have a nice shot of fish when
we get back out there tomorrow!

Fishing remains very consistent with the exception of a few trips that were
hampered by the recent lousy weather. There has been some great diamond
jigging for bass and blues fishing some of the rocky bottom south of the middle.
Also, the bottom fishing has been solid both drifting near the light as well as
on the wrecks. Some real big scup have been on the wrecks weighing
in at over 2 lbs. Once this lousy weather passes, we look forward to
getting back out there!

Tonight's trip started with a little bottom fishing. We captured a few scup and
a sea bass. That's when we received word that the blues and bass were chewing
and chewing hard. We switched everyone over to the diamond jig and we were off.
First drift we were into them! Some of the biggest blues I have seen in a long
time. Many fish over 10 and one over 13.The fish bite until dark. We rounded out
the night with a few short bass and one 18 pounder.

Fishing remains very solid. Lots of big scup on most trips with a mix of
sea bass. The jigging has also been good with blues landed up to 16lbs
this week. We also jigged a keeper weakfish yesterday. Fun fishing
for the kids right now with lots of action!
Monday Aug 14
Today, there was a good improvement on the scup bite. we fished several rock
piles and Wrecks with the first and last drop being the most productive. One of
the wrecks also had a ton of blues and some short bass on it.
We switched over and jigged to end the day, we only captured a few due to poor
tide conditions.
As we come off the moon the bottom fishing should get better every day now!

Bailed the bass and blues tonight!!! Few nice keeper striped bass to 15
lbs and all the blues you wanted. Best fishing was on the north side of
the light on diamond jigs.

Insane bail job at the middle grounds!!!!
Today was very good jigging but the evening trip was was even better. Capt Neil
said he hasn't seen diamond jigging like this in 10 years! Glad you got in on
the action Neil!
Middle Grounds is red hot right now on both tides. Huge piles of blues and an
occasional keeper bass with some drifts lasting upwards of 20 minutes!

All out action on the blues this morning also a few bass in the mix. For those
of you who love to jig now is the time. Everyone jigged until they were tired,
keeping a few for the table and releasing the rest. We left them chewing!!!

Middle Ground Madness trips have seen fantastic results the past two days. The
Bass and Blues are feeding heavy on the moon tides. All out Bail Job today in
the south rip at the Middle Grounds.
Lots of gaffing size blues, few keeper striped bass as well. The evening porgie
and sea bass bite was excellent though the hard moon tides have slowed the bite
temporarily. Once the current eases off a bit, the great bottom fishing will
continue.
With all the great fishing at the Middle Grounds, we will now be fishing two
combo trips a day for Striped Bass, Blues, Fluke, porgies and Sea Bass. Middle
Ground Madness Mixed Bag Extravaganza in full effect!!!!

Bail job last night on our Middle Grounds trip. A Limit of Jumbo porgies was not
a problem to go along with a nice mix of sea bass. One drop was all that was
needed.

Fluke fishing has been solid on the day trips fishing mainly now in
Smithtown Bay. Some nice big fish to 7.3 lbs have been landed the past few days.
The larger fish are coming off the deeper ridges 30-50 feet of water.
We will continue to sail for Fluke for as long as the good bite continues. Back
by popular demand though, we will now begin our famous 'Middle Ground Madness'
trips sailing every afternoon at 4:30pm. These trips feature a combination of
diamond jigging for Striped Bass and Blues as well as bottom fishing for Porgies
and Sea Bass.
The bottom fishing right now at the Middle Ground has been fantastic. Lots of
Jumbo Porgies and a nice mix a sea bass as well.
Sun July 30th
Today 27 anglers, kept 48 Fluke. High-hook was six keepers. There were several
limits around the boat. Pool fish, 4.5lbs. The fish were feeding aggressively,
eating anything that we put in front of them, dark colors worked best.

Nice pick of fluke today. We fished west today off Stony Brook and had
over 40 keepers for the day. Bucktails and flashy teasers were the key.

Tons of life up on the shoals right now but mainly shorts. Moved out a
little deeper today and fishing was very good on some of the edges 25-40 ft of
water.
13 fares had 34 keepers on the day. Good day all around. The fluke are still
here!

Fluking remains solid. It is not an all out bail like it was for a few
weeks. We all got spoiled there for a while, but it is still very decent fishing
with lots of action. Sharpies are landing their limit no problem still.
We will continue fluke fishing for as long as this bite hold up.

Fluking was very good yesterday as 40 nice keepers came over the rails. Over the
weekend some trips were decent but a few trips were slow as well. Tons of action
though as there were a ton of short fluke around, just tough to find the
keepers. It was good to see that fishing bounced back today.

Today, we put 105 keepers on the deck with another 400 shorts that were
returned.
High hook was 13 keepers(orl). Pool fish was around 5lbs.
Bucktails are the key, you have to work for the strike.
Many limits around the boat.

What more can we say except that fluke lovers are having a field day right
now fishing out of Port Jefferson aboard the CELTIC QUEST and the OSPREY
Even at 18 inches limits are not a problem. Sharpies are limiting out in as 10
minutes some days! High hook today was 16 keepers.
If the limit was 17 1/2 like last year many trips in the past two weeks would
have see 200 plus keepers easliy. These are quality fluke with many of them 3-
6lbs caught on light tackle in shallow water.
It truly has been one of the greatest fluke runs ever in Long Island Sound! And
it continues!
You might want to get in on this before its over
Fishing has been great on both the day and evening trips.
The action continues on todays trip. 29 fares boated
around 350 (give or take a few) fluke keeping around 85 of them. High hook as
well as the pool went to Jim Hunt of Blue Water charters. He captured 40 fluke
keeping 16(orl) of them. Pool fish was 6lb.
The weather and tide look good for the rest of the week.

70-80 keepers for 35 fares today. Plenty of quality fluke right outside the
harbor. Sharpies are easily limiting out and then some on quality fluke
everyday.
We did not sail on the pm trip due to lack of fares.
Plenty of room on all trips this week with the exception of Saturday afternoon's
trip.

Great day today. Full boat today enjoyed excellent action all day long
fishing right outside the harbor.
Over 300 fluke were landed on the day, 110 were keepers! Great weather. Great
fishing. Wish they all could be like this.
Plenty of room on all trips coming up if you want to get in on the great action.

Awesome fluking on the last two pm trips.
The day trip was on the slow side today with all the boat traffic. Finished up
with 25 keepers for the trip.
The pm trip was great though as Capt Pete put em on the meat once again. 23
fares had 65 keepers to 6 lbs right outside the harbor fishing Petes secret
spot.
Kil Song led the way with 8 keepers. Single spearing on bait rigs worked very
well tonight.
Friday's pm trip was awesome as well as 17 anglers had 45 keepers on the night.

Today's trip was an all out BAIL JOB! One fare limited out on the first drift.
We had a full boat limit by 11:15. We then went porgy fishing and captured some
nice scup to round out the day.
The pool fish was around 5lbs. Jim Hunt of the Blue water captured 37 fluke 6 of
which were keepers (orl).
High hook was 12 keepers (orl).
Bucktails were the only way to go!!

Awesome fluking continues!
We did not sail during the day today due to the weather. The afternoon trip was
excellent as 13 anglers limited out on fluke to 5.5lbs.
Artie the Veteran finally showed up and led the way with 14 keepers! (ORL)
Now is the time to get in on some savage fluke fishing!!

Very good fluking continues. The bite was off a bit in the whole area in the
morning but was excellent in afternoon as 70 keepers to 6.5 lbs were landed.
The evening trip was also very good as 25 keepers were landed for 12 fares.

Bailed the fluke today!
13 fares limited out on fluke to 6 lbs.
Some fares had as many as 30-40 fluke on the day, 10-15 of which were keepers.
Capt Pete cant get enough of this awesome fishing and decided to come out on the
only day he has had off in three weeks. He seems to be loosing his touch a bit
as he only had 15 keepers on the day. :)
I hope it was worth it Pete!

Despite the lousy weather, 28 anglers enjoyed another very good day of fluking.
55-60 keepers were landed, lots of shorts. Plenty of fish 4-5 lbs. Pool was 7
lbs. Sharpies had no problem landing their limit.

30 anglers had 70 keepers right outside the harbor.
Lots of quality fluke in the mix.
Sailing two trips daily. Plenty of room on all trips this weekend if you would

Great day . Fishing right outside the harbor, 10 anglers had 37 keepers to 7lbs.
Many of these fish were 4-6lbs. 5-15 feet of water. Bucktails were they key.
15 anglers had 38 keepers on the afternoon trip as well again right outside the
harbor.
