Wednesday, Sept 1, 2010 Monday evening was fantastic on the porgies!!!
Tons of big fish and a full boat limit. THe
full day trip yesterday was very good once that
incoming tide set up. Finished up with a full
boat limit of scup. The 9am missed the tide a
bit but everyone still went home with some dinner.
Here is a reprot from the pm trip yesterday
posted by Bill P,: Took a ride out to
bend the rod on the 4:30-8:30 trip. Light tackle and
jumbo oven stuffer pork chops. I had 17 keepers. The
sound was glass. Perfect night, unreal sunset. The
whole operation is top notch. Mates did a great job.
Thanks Desi.
Todays 9am trip was very good again once the
current set up. Lots of porgies came over the
rails to end the trip!
Sunday Aug 30 , 2010 Put together a decent catch on the full
day trip today. Tons of boats out there for
the bluefish tournament made it a little difficult
but we finished up by days end with a full boat
limit of porgies as well as some sea bass and blues.
The half day boat had a nice catch of porgies in
the morning, a slow pick on the mid trip, and a very
good catch of blues on the jigs on the pm trip!
13lb blue!
Saturday, Aug 28, 2010 We had 6 fares on our full day trip today.
Fishing was slow in the morning as only a few dozen
porgies, sea bass and blues were landed. But
the afternoon we landed on em big time and finished
off with some great fishing! Everyone easily
limited out and big scup a few pushing the 3 lb
mark! Pete Messina was high hook with 30 (orl)
Great way to finish for sure.
The half day boat with Capt Jared at the helm had
a nice catch of porgies on both the morning and mid
trip. Lat night pm trip was also very good on
the drift as lots of porgies, blues and sea bass
came over the rails. Solid fishing now.
Friday, Aug 27, 2010 Finally the whether has cleared and we have been
able to fish the past two days. Fishing was
very good yesterday and the 9am trip saw excellent
jigging and some porgies and sea bass. The
full day trip had very good action jigging for bass
and blues as well. 6 fares on that trip also
had close to a limit of porgies.
Thursdays pm charter was very good. On the
last of the outgoing we had some action on the
blues. At the bottom of the tide we anchored
up an d chummed for a very good catch of big
porgies, sea bass and many blues as well. All
the kids had a great time. Fun night!
Todays trips saw some decent action on the
incoming tide for blues on both trips. The
full day boat alos had some decent action to start
the day, but after that the bottom fishing was a
little slow. All in all though there has been
lots of action and everyone has been going home with
dinner.
Monday, Aug 23, 2010 Blown out today due to the weather.
Saturday fishing was very slow during the day as the
conditions were terrible and limited where we could
fish. The evening trip was great though as the
winds subsided and we were able to get out to the
middle grounds. Started off with a nice catch
of very large porgies and then had some great action
diamond jigging for striped bass and blues.
Sunday am the jigging was good with plenty of
blues. Tried to switch over to bottom fishing
but the current was running very hard and fishing
was slow. Similar results on mid trip as the
weather turned lousy. The pm trip had to be
cancelled due to the weather as well.
Bad stretch we are in with the weather but it
looks like it is supposed to clear up by mid week.
Look forward to getting back out there.
Friday, Aug 20, 2010 Fishing was awesome today on the 9am trip!!! Put
some nice porgies in the boat to start the trip and
then ran over a huge pile of blues! Bail job
for rest of the trip. Kids had a blast!
The full day trip had a steady catch of fish all
day as 20 fares ended up with close to a limit of
porgies, dozen sea bass and few dozen blues.
Another solid day!
Thursday, Aug 19, 2010
Had a great time out there today on a special trip
organized by the New York Sport fishing
Federation to encourage kids to get involved in
fishing!. This trip was also sponsored
by the Fisherman Magazine send a kid fishing
program and Assembly Woman Ginny Fields, who has
been an amazing advocate for promoting sport fishing
for the our kids as well as all the other work she
does on behalf of our industry and community.
Everyone had a great time reeling in porgies all
morning. The weather was great as was the
company. Nothing is more rewarding then
teaching the next generation to love and appreciate
the water and our way of life as fishermen.
The smiles on their faces are priceless.!!
Thank you to all who helped put this together and
the Ginny Fields for all that you do for our
industry as well as the next generation of fisherman
to come!
Wednesday, Aug 18 , 2010 Capt Jon reported back that the full day trip
started out with slow action on the scup but
finished up very well! Full limit of porgies,
some big sea bass to 4 lbs and 50 blues! Good
day
The 9am trip had 75 or so nice big porgies and
some sea bass. Nothing spectacular but some
nice fish for dinner.
Pm trip was very good. Here is a report
written by Capt Neil who brought his family out for
some fun:
WOW!!!
What a trip for the Faulkner Family Annual fishing
trip!!! 19 of us arrived for the 4:45 PM captains
choice trip. The weather and calm seas were perfect.
Capt Chris put us on top of lots of porgys.
Grandchildren of all ages had flying fish coming
over the rail all evening. Young David says he was
hi hook with almost 30. Owen says he had 16 of
different sizes. Moms and Dads were not left out as
they caught and caught some more. Even the old man
caught a few, ha, ha!
We saw a beautiful rainbow and then a double rainbow
formed. The sunset was stunning and many pics were
taken.
Thank you John and Mateo for all your help from the
deck force.
Thank you Capt Des for making this possible.
Tuesday, Aug 17, 2010 Fishing was very good today. Full limitation of
porgies to 3lbs and lots and lots of blues as well
for 28 fares!
Very good day!
The 9am trip also had a decent catch of porgies
before the tide eased, to go along with some seabass
and blues to 10lbs.
Fish are settling in very well now at the middle
grounds, and the deep water wrecks. Good days are
ahead!
Sunday, August 15 , 2010 Earlier in the week the fishing was greatly
hampered by very strong east winds and kept us
inshore. A few trips had some decent life with
the porgies but all in all it was very slow.
We were able to get back out to the middle grounds
yesterday and had some porgies on a few trips and
some all out AWESOME! jigging for bass and blues on
the outgoing tide.
The pm trip yesterday was fantastic and bass and
blues were flying over the rails. Lots of
short bass and half a dozen keepers as well.
Fish were stacked in the rip all tide. Great
trip.
Today was slow on the scup with just a pick of
fish. The good outgoing tide set
up just before sun set and we were able to get
a few very good drifts on the jigs again.
Coming off this moon the bottom fishing should
bounce right back to where it was last week.
Tuesday, Aug 10, 2010 Capt Jon Bowen reported in that fishing was
Fantastic this afternoon!! Tons and TOns of
blues and lots of porgies as well. Another
great day.
The 9am boat had some scup but unfortunately the
blues didnt school up until it was time to go home!
Monday, Aug 9, 2010 Great day today! The 9am trip saw an all
out BAILJOB on the blues! Fish were
everywhere! Great to see. We also
finished up the trip with a few decent drifts on the
porgies.
The full day trip saw 10 anglers put 40-50 nice
scup in the boat and several dozen big blues up to
12 lbs! Solid trip.
Things are really starting to look good at the
middle. Its that time of year!
Friday, Aug 6, 2010 Solid fishing for the blues today on the full
day trip. Anchored up and started catching the
porgies and a very large school of blues appeared.
Switched everyone over and put over a 100 in the
boat. Finished up with 130 porgies as well.
Nice day
The 9am trip saw a nice steady pick up medium to
jumbo porgies in the deep water. A few sea
bass also mixed in. Looks like more and more
fish are showing up in the middle and the deep
water. Only gets better from here!
Tuesday, Aug 3, 2010 Another excellent day today on Full day trip.
Full limit of Porgies for all fares, a few sea bass
and couple dozen blues!
Went prospecting at the end of the trip on some deep
water wrecks and there were plenty of fish to be had
on those pieces as well. Our next full day
will be on Friday.
Monday Aug 2, 2010 Great day today!! Full day trip with Capt
Chris at the helm had a full boat limit for big
porgies, some nice sea bass, and excellent jigging
for bluefish! Excellent trip!
Local trip had a mix of porgies, few sea bass and
also got in on some jigging action for blues.
Sunday, Aug 2, 2010 Locally it is still been a little hit and miss with some trips doing
quite well and porgies, sea bass and blues, with a
few slow trips mixed in that saw only a few dozen
porgies and sea bass landed. Best
action has been at the middle grounds and some of
the deep water drops.
The full day trips have been excellent! Lots
of fish to go around, limits not a problem!
Porgies, sea bass, blues and occasional striped
bass!
Below is a nice report that describes the
nice family fishing at its best. It was posted
online by John Viol and Diane who chartered the boat
this weekend for their family and friends:
Diane and i had set
up a very Private Charter on the Celtic Quest, with some of our
closest Friends and Co-workers. Please keep in mind that most of
these folks have only been fishing once in their lives, a few had
never gone fishing before and were joined by a number of their
children which ranged in age from 7-10.
After stopping to pick up 3 dozen Bagels with all the fixins and 2
tubs of coffee, Diane and i boarded the Celtic quest early yesterday
morning. We were greeted by Mates Mark, Brian, and James who helped
us load all of our stuff on board. It took awhile to get everyone on
board, and settled, but once we managed to get everything under
control Capt. Desi gave the word and we backed out of the slip.
Karen (one of our closest Friends) had ordered a Sabrett Station
with all the fixins, including 25lbs of Sabrett Hotdogs, 10 lbs of
Sabrett Hot Sausages, a ton of Rolls, and of course Kraut and
peppers. This was an excellent choice and i will be looking into
doing this again on our next Charters, as the Hotdogs and Sausages
were enjoyed by both young and old alike. We also had various
Salads, Chips, and Cookies and Candies for the kids.
As we headed out to the fishing grounds i became a bit concerned,
especially for the Children on board as we were running into a
fairly stiff North wind, but Capt. Desi assured me that it would
shortly drop out and switch to the South, and by the time we reached
our first stop it did just that, and i am proud to say everyone held
it together just fine.
Capt. Desi skillfully anchored the Celtic Quest over "what can only
be described as" a tremendous school of the biggest kind of Porgies.
After a brief instruction on how to work a rod and reel, how to bait
up, and of course how to set the hook, everyone, including all of
the children on Board, were soon swinging in progy after porgy,
including a number of double headers. Most of these Porgies were
averaging between 14" - 17" in length, with a few running even
larger. Everyone on Board was soon releasing anything under 14", as
there were just too many Bigger Porgies. Mixed in with the Porgies
were a few nice Seabass, along with a few Blues.
Around 10:30 a very Lovely young Girl named Jillian (age 7 ), who
was fishing in the bow with her Father hooked into a big Bluefish.
Before i could come to her aid Capt. Desi and Mate Mark were by her
side to offer any assistance possible. It was something to see this
Tiny little Girl fighting this fish. Capt. Desi, and Mate Mark
wanted to make sure that this little Girl landed this fish, and we
were all overjoyed when Mate Mark sunk the gaff into this 10 lb
class Bluefish. For this little Girl it was a fish of a lifetime,
and one she will remember forever.
By 11:00 Mates Mark, Brian, and James began the task of expertly
filleting everyones fish, as everyone on board had already reached
their limits. Capt. Desi decided to try a few different areas in
search of some more quality Seabass. We now drifted as the wind had
died out completely. We picked away at a few quality Seabass on
every drift, along with a few additional Bluefish, and of course, a
few more Porgies, "which were released".
By 1:00-1:30 it was time to head in. Everyone on Board grabbed some
Hotdogs or Hot Sausages, a beverage, and enjoyed the beautiful ride
back to port. By the time we got 1/2 way back to port, most were
fast alseep, with big smiles on their faces. Every person on board
"yes including the Children" asked eithe Diane of Myself "when can
we do this again".
As it turns out Little 7 year old Jillian not only won the largest
edible pool with her 10 lb class Bluefish. She also had the heaviest
Porgy on board. A beautiful 3 1/2 lb class oven stuffer roaster,
which won the Porgy pool. She sure had a day that she will never
forget.
Hi-Lo rigs were the rigs of the day. we easily got away with 4-6 oz
sinkers "depending upon your level of experience", and Clams were
the bait of choice. Once again, Capt. Desi and Mates Mark, Brian,
and James demonstrated why they are the Best of the Best at what
they do. They truely are a 1st class act all the way. It's one thing
to limit out a Boat with experienced folks. But to limit out the
entire Boat with a group of beginners and Children. Well, thats just
something special, and takes one hell of a lot of talent and
experience to do. Hat's off to one hell of a Great Capt. and Crew.
Before Diane and i left the parking lot for our long ride home. One
of our Friends Sons came up to me and said that he had tried fishing
twice before, and had never caught anything. He then thanked us for
setting up this Charter. Two other Gentlemen who came with one of
our Friends also stopped me in the parking lot, requesting
information on my next Charter. When we arrived home we received no
less than 8 phone calls from various folks thanking us for setting
this up. Everyone told us that they had the time of their lives.
Folks are still calling us today to thank us.
Get out there while this Hot bite is on. The size of some of these
Porgies is just incredible, and they are there in large numbers.
Capt. Desi knows where they live, and Mates Mark, Brian, and James
are there to help you with whatever you need to put them in your
cooler. I know that Diane and i will be back very soon.
Thursday, July 29, 2010 Fishing was great again today on the full day
trip!! We have been fishing some of our prime
deep eastern waters on these trips and limiting out
on big porgies, some nice sea bass, lots of blues
and occasional surprise treat striped bass!
Capt Jared had another excellent day again today.
Here are some recent pics!
Wednesday, July 28, 2010 Fishing was very good today on out full day Capt
Choice trip. All fares Limited out on Porgies
to go with some seabass, big bluefish, small
bluefish and one 27 inch striped bass.
The deep water drops are producing very well and the
quality is excellent. Yesterday saw similar
results as well. pics to follow soon
Monday, July 26, 2010 Fishing has been very hit and miss this week.
Some trips have been very good and others very slow.
We had some good action on sea bass, big porgies and
blues on some of the deepwater drops and wrecks on a
few trips. The shallow stuff is still spotty
though on the porgies.
A few trips also saw some very good action on
blues and short striped bass. This
mornings 9am trip caught em real good on jigs!!
The best is coming when the big schools of cocktail
blues are blitzing around Port Jeff Harbor and old
field point. Hopefully thing will get more
consistent now that this heat wave has finally
broken a bit.
Monday July 19th, 2010
We had fluke to over 8 lbs the past two days.
tons of action on some trips but the keeper ratio
was way down. Keepers were hard to come
by. Yesterdays full day trip started off
strong on the ebb but once the tide changed that was
it for the day on the keepers. Similar results
on the local trips. We are going to change our
schedule from full day fluke only to Capt Choice
Combo trips for Fluke/porgies/ bass and blues
depending on the conditions and latest reports.
The Middle grounds is starting to come to life
with good jigging and bottom fishing. Hope to
see you!
July certainly had
some awesome fluking!!!!
Here are just
a few of the highlights!
7/12/10: 20
anglers, 700 fluke, over 30 keepers.
7/11: Over
1000 fluke landed
57 keepers up to 6.75 lbs!!!
7/9 ANOTHER FULL BOAT
LIMIT!
7 fares/ 21 keepers!
7/5 :
16 anglers: FULL BOAT LIMIT!!
7/3/10 ANOTHER FULL BOAT LIMIT OF FLUKE FOR 36 FARES!!
7/1/10 FULL BOAT LIMIT OF
FLUKE TO
7 LBS !
Friday, June 18, 2010 Fluking today was absolutely awesome!! 22 fares, over 700 fluke
by noon time! 130 plus keepers!!(orl) tons of 5lbders, bunch of 6
lbders, a few 7's and the pool a 10.1 lb Slob!!
Friday,
July 16, 2010 The morning fluke
bite was awesome this morning first two drifts on the last of the
ebb. Tons of bait, birds diving, fluke flying over the rails.
It was shaping up to be some awesome day when sadly our trusty
deckhand and friend to many here, young Kris aka fishfinder13,
jumped to get a net off the roof, landed wrong and blew out his
knee..
He was hurting very bad and we cut the trip short and headed home
to get him to the hospital. Not sure of the prognosis yet, but it
sucks for the poor guy as he will probably be out of work for
quite some time during the peak season. Hope he heals up fast and
feels better soon. If you can send him a few good words of
encouragement when you get a chance guys. thanks.
the fluking is still very very good. We were able to get the
charter back out for a few good hours locally and put a trip
together. But the full day trips when conditions are right a down
right silly.
Capt Jared found a huge pile of blues outside the harbor tonight
and slayed em on jigs so that is heating up as well.
Thursday,
July 15, 2010 Diamond jigging last night at the middle grounds was awesome!
Found a few big piles of striped bass rolling on the surface and 9
fares enjoyed some really excellent jigging. 5 keepers
stayed on the boat, lots of shorts and some big blues as well.
Looks like the middle grounds is coming to life!

here
is a report from John, a customer who fished on this trip who
posted this on Noreast.com:
Hit the Celtic Quest
yesterday with my wife Diane and a few Friends. We were not going
to let a little rain stand in the way of a Fluke dinner. On the
way out to the Fluking grounds it started to rain fairly steady,
but that did not dampen our spirits, and everyone was at the rail
when Capt. Chris slowed down for the first drift of the day. We
started off fishing on the slack tide.
However, even on the slack
tide we were picking away at the local Fluke population. Within 45
min of making the frist drift, the rain stopped, and the fluke
Turned on with the change of the tide. The Fluke fishing went from
fantastic to simply stupid fishing.
Anyone who could fish a
bucktail was catching Fluke as fast as they could hit the bottom.
Capt. Chris joined us at the rail and landed too many Fluke to
count, including at least 1 beautiful keeper in the 5+ lb range.
When all was said and done we estimated that we had landed at
least 600-650 Fluke. Remember, there were only 14 or so Fares on
the Boat today.
I managed 5 Beautiful keepers
(only retaining my limit of course). My wife Diane had her limit
as well including a Beautiful 7lb class Pool fish. Capt. Chris was
on his game as he always is, and Mates Christine and Tommy were
always there for whatever you needed, and were kept extremely busy
today, between netting Fluke, unhookong Fluke, replenishing bait
supplies, and doing a beautiful job at the Fillet table.
These Guy's and Gal's
certainly were "as they always are" on top of their game as well.
Don't have any idea how long this insane Fluke fishing can
possibly continue. Get out there while it's hot. You woun't be
dissapointed.
Monday,
July 12, 2010 Another great day. 20 anglers, 700 fluke, over 30
keepers. Pool well over 6 lbs. Sweet!
Sunday,
July 11, 2010 Awesome day today again! Todays charter was in honor of
the great Capt Neil Faulkner! It took a little lookin but
when we found the fluke it was a HOT bite on the ebb! 30
anglers had around 1000 fluke, keeping just a few shy of a boat
limit. Lock and load! Pool was 6 3/4 lbs!
Very good fishing ! Headed back tomorrow hopefully.
Who is this masked man!!! He catches a lot of fluke!
Friday,
July 9, 2010 Another Awesome day locally!!! We didnt have enough
fares to sail on the east end trip so we stayed local and beat on
the fluke! Full boat limit was no problem with 21 keepers
for 7 anlgers (orl) with an average size of 4 lbs! Plus tons of shorts and 25
cocktail blues. Great trip!
With the local fishing we will be changing our schedule a bit next
week. Monday thru Friday will be full day Fluke 7am 2pm.
Thursday,
July 8, 2010 Awesome fluke bite locally today!! First of the ebb was
on fire as tons of fluke came over the rails!. 25 keepers
were caught on the half day trip alone up to 6.5 lbs.
The East End trip
saw lots fluke caught though the keeper ratio was off today.
Some really quality fish were landed though as 13 anglers had lots
of shorts, keeping 16 with a few over 5 lbs including one 6.7, a
7.5 and a 7 3/4 ! The pool winning beauty caught by Noreast
Saltwater's Sal Amendolia!!! Nice fish!!
Bernie was high
hook with 30 plus fluke, 4 keepers including one over 6 and one
over 7 lbs!
Sal from Noreast Saltwater magazine
Wednesday,
July 7, 2010
We didnt have
enough fares today to sail down east. Stayed local and both
boats today had excellent action with a silly amount of fluke
caught, decent amount of keepers in the mix. The pm trip
also had similar good results as did yesterdays pm trip.
Pool the past
2 days locally has been up to 9 lbs!!! So some very nice
fish in the mix to go with all the 17-20 inch fluke. Here is
a pic of the 9 lb beauty landed yesterday:
Monday,
July 5, 2010
Another fine day today with Full Boat Limit on Jc's limited
load noreast charter. 16 anlgers had 44 keepers on the the day (orl)
releasing hundreds of jumbo should be keeper shorts.
Steady bite all day with some real good flurries on certain parts
of the tide. Pool was 6.5 lbs. Mike was high hook with 6 keepers
followed Togilator and Ken Scott with 5 keepers each. Everyone had
an easy 20-40 fluke a man. Another very fine day!
Thanks Jay for putting such a great trip together! Look forward to
the next one.
Headed out on East End Specials for the rest of the week.
Saturday, July 3, 2010
Eastend Special:
Full Boat Limit today for our charter of 36!.
Great bite today, especially the back side of the tide when they
really turned on. Over 800 fluke on the day, keeping a full
boat limit.
Freddie Azaiter
was "muy CALIENTE!" today!. Between touching his good
luck crab he caught on the first drift and kissing his Capt Neil
Maximizer rod after every fish, he was reelin up fish all day
long, finishing up with over 50 fluke easy for the day, 4 keepers
(orl) Way to Freddie!
Really some fine
light tackle bucktailing today and great company made it even
better. Thanks Capt Neil for al your work in putting this
trip together!
Sailing open boat
on these trips everyday next week starting Tuesday!
The local half
day trips saw a lot of shorts but was slow on the keepers, not
like yesterday for whatever reason. Try again tomorrow.
here are the pics!
Friday,
July 2, 2010 Fluking was very very good on the morning half day trip!
25 keepers and hundreds of shorts were landed with the pool around
5 lbs. great trip.
The East End
Special was also very successful. Despite very windy
conditions first thing in the morning and then lousy wind against
tide for the rest of the trip, over 30 keepers were landed with
hundreds of "shorts".
Very good day all
around. Looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow!
Thursday July 1, 2010
Great Fluking today on our East End Special!
16 anglers had a full boat limit
and then some(orl), over 40 keepers total, releasing hundreds and
hundreds more!! So many should be keepers 18-20 inches!!!
Excellent fishing for sure. Bucktails, bait, whatever....it all
worked today!
High hook was Ron Grandinetti who had over 50 fluke, 5 keepers(orl)
and the pool close to 7 lbs!!
Beautiful day! Plenty of room tomorrow. Headed back to where we
left off tomorrow. Just come on down if you would like to join
us!
The local bite has also been great and we will be sailing our
second boat at 9am till 1 pm if you cant make it for the full day.
Fireworks Cruise 7:30 pm July
4th!
Saturday,Friday, June 25, 2010 The porgie fishing continues to be simply amazing the past few
days! This enormous body of scup has pushed right outside the harbor
the past few days and it has been an all out BONANZA!
Tonight in 1 hour we landed well over 500 big ill tempered porgies!
SAVAGE ! (orl)
Todays charter saw an all out Bail as well. Last night open boat the
same.
The reads and piles of fish here is truly mind boggling.
We will be targeting these fish all weekend on our half day trips
and evening trips. Bring the kids!!!! This is the time!
On the fluke front, the fishing remains very good though it wasnt
quite the torrid pace as earlier in the week. Nonetheless, over 30
keepers to 6 lbs again today, several hundred shorts. High hook with
6 keepers!
Wednesday, June 23, 2010 Solid day today, not as many as yesterday. 15 fares were 4
short of a full boat limit though. Very fast drift made the
latter half of the trip very challenging! Here are a few pics:
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 The fluke action today was quite silly to say the least! The
first and last of the ebb was lock and load on the bucktails. Hit
the bottom, get a bite and reel up a fluke.
Over 1000 fluke easy were landed!!, many many limits, too many to
list. Pool was caught by 12 year Tyler and weighed just under 8
lbs!! Way to go Tyler.
Mutiple hundreds of fish in the 18-20 should be keeper range.
Trying to go tomorrow if we get enough fares. We will be sailing
these full day extended fluke trips every weekday now until further
notice. Hope to see you!
Monday, June 21, 2010 With all the kids and families out for Fathers Day weekend we
opted to mostly bottom fish. We had some really
good porgy fishing on most of our half day trips with a few fluke
mixed in. Everyone went home with a nice bag of fish for
dinner. Saturday and Sunday evening trips were slow for some
reason, but most others were very solid.
Todays East End trip was very good again.
Not the ludicrous numbers that we saw on Friday, though comparing to
that is very hard. Nonetheless, 33 anglers had 450 plus fluke
on the day, 37 keepers. Pool today on the 5 lb class.
A beauty around 9 lbs was lost boat side. Oh well. All
in all a very respectable catch.
Headed back out everyday this week.
Weather looks good!
Friday, June 18, 2010 Fluking today was absolutely awesome!! 22 fares, over 700 fluke
by noon time! 130 plus keepers!!(orl) tons of 5lbders, bunch of 6
lbders, a few 7's and the pool a 10.1 lb Slob!!
Left them in all out bail job because enough was enough. The bottom
was paved with fish today. Every drift from beginning to end was a
bail, even through the slack. We knew it was going to be good when
on the first drift the fluke we caught were all being followed up by
other fluke. many double headers today. I really dont what else to
say about it.
Hit the porgies grounds on the way home and beat on the big porgies
as well. A quick 15 minutes was all it took for a our limit of scup
and headed for home.
Artie the Veteran was on fire today catching as easy 50 fluke, 12
keepers (orl) and the pool winner, his first ever double digit
fluke! congrats artie on that! He is currently in the lead to win
the beautiful custom rod built by ralph RODWINDER!
John Viol, the man generous enough to set this trip up for everyone
(thank John!) also had a dozen keepers and 50 or more on the day (orl)
Johns wife Diane had 9 keepers, Dan kuftak 9 keepers,
Ken Scott had a 7.8 lb beauty as Kevin Roletter a 7.5 lb flattie.
Savage fishing!! A day I wont soon forget!
Man Togilator, I cant believe you had to work today!! :)
Due to this insane body of fluke, we are changing all our trips next
week to full day East End Specials leaving at 6 am returning
approximately 3:30pm.
Porgie fishing on all trips
yesterday was a Bail Job. Pm trip headed home early with a
full boat limit in no time!
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 It was too windy this morning to head down east so we stayed
local. And all is well that ends well!! Caught a ton of
fluke all day long as 17 anglers had well over 300-350 fluke on the
day. But the keepers were very hard to come by as we only had
10 or 12 by early afternoon.......
That is until we decided to try one last area
where we had marked a nice big pile of bait on the ride out.
The last drift was awesome! Quite possibly the best 15 minutes
of the season so far as 20 keepers came over
the rail and a good 70 shorts as well!!!
Mathew Konefal led the way with 5
keepers(orl) followed by the one and only Ed Sabatino who had and
easy 30 fluke on the day with 4 keepers(orl) Lee Dimitriou,
Bernie Reynolds, Bob Jung, Daniel White, even Ray Balchi all limited
out!
What a way to end the day!
Monday, June 14, 2010 The porgie fishing continues to be awesome! Mixed in a few
drops on all our half day trips this weekend and had great action!
Saturday night and Sunday night were slower with slack low in the
middle of the trip but a decent amount of big porgies were still
caught and everyone went home with plenty for dinner.
The day trips were very good!
The local fluke was on the slow side this weekend
with mostly shorts and a few keepers, nothing great though.
We will be headed down east again tomorrow weather permitting.
Here are a few recent shots from the recent great bottom fishing.
Thursday, June 10, 2010 Had a great day with Tim and crew from Engine 225, Ladder 107 in
Brooklyn. Started the day off with a full limit of porgies to
3 lbs in a half hour. awesome bite. Then
headed to the fluke grounds. It took a while to get a good
drift but once the outgoing set up the bite really turned on.
Finished up with an excellent bite with plenty of nice fluke
coming over the rails. Ended up with over 200 fluke with 25
keepers for 23 anglers. pool was 5lbs 13oz,. We
had 4 other fish weighed in over 5 lbs as well and many in the 4 lb
range. We had to leave em biting to head home for the next
trip, but it was great to finish on a high note. here are some pics:
Wednesday, June 9, 2010 A MASSIVE school of humpback porgies today that stretched over 1
mile long! YES you read the right!! I have been working
on porgie boats for over 20 years and seen some amazing porgie
fishing, but have never in my life have we ever seen a school
of porgies that even comes close to what we fished on yesterday!
The school was 10-20 feet high, 50 yards wide by 1 mile in length!!!
Truly a site to behold! I cant even imagine how many fish were
down there. literally hundreds and hundreds of thousands of
scup, many jumbo sized, even SUPER jumbo sized over 3 lbs!
This massive school was set up right along the
bank of the shoal along the edge and stayed there the entire day.
Just checked in with Capt Jared this morning and the school was
still there. They made a quick drop on the way to the fluke
grounds and limited out the entire boat in no time. Last
nights trip was a complete BAILJOB as was the day trip.
Amazing!
Dont know how long it will last but if you
like porgie fishing you gotta see this!
Take a look at this!!!!! from our fishfinder.
It read like this all day long!
Image from our side scan sonar. this shows
the boat on the left scanning out 249 feet to the right of the boat.
Normally the bottom looks smooth. All the haze is tens of
thousands of porgies schooled up! This read went on for 1 mile
as we ran along side the school!!
Customers were all smiles today!!!!
Lucas from Texas with one of his several double headers!!
On the fluke front, fishing remains solid.
Yesterday morning captain JP had awesome fluking on his
private boat on the last of the incoming. By the time we got
there unfortunately the drift speed was extremely fast around 2
knots which made for difficult bucktailing. Nonetheless, it
was still a decent day with over 150-175 fluke, 25 keepers.
Mike Desena won yet another pool, 2 days in a row now for mike with
a 6.5lb fluke!
Monday, June 7, 2010
Fishing is in full swing on the north shore!!!!
Today, June 7 aboard the CQII Capt bill took a bit of a ride and put
over 200 fluke, 27 keepers on the boat up to 7lbs. Many many
shorts were landed as well. The Desena brothers were at it again and
took home the pool!
Members of the garden city police Chartered the
CQIV today. What a day it was! Started the day on the scup, bailed
them till the guys said enough! Moved down the way a bit and tried
for some fluke, picked away and ended up with 8 keepers. On the way
home decided to check out the jigging grounds. Bailed the blues and
3 bass, one being a keeper! GREAT DAY!!
Capt. Chris
Sunday, June 6, 2010 Sorry for the late reports here. Been so busy on the boat
everyday slaying giant fish that I couldnt get to my computer! :)
Fishing remains absolutely fantastic for Porgies. Every trip
the past few days has seen lots of jumbos and all the kids are
having a blast! Many fish have weighed in over 3 lbs. We
are also seeing a few sea bass and last night we even caught 6 nice
blackfish! (all released) Super fishing right now on these
trips as the scup have piled in on the beaches. This should
hopefully last a few more weeks. Dont wait till its over.
Now is the time!
Fluking locally has been decent on the ebb tide.
A nice body of fish settled in on one area the past few days.
The morning tide has been quite good. We will get
back to our full day trips tomorrow and are headed out east again on
Tuesday.
Thursday, June 3, 2010 Nice day today. Some big fluke were on order! We had
a 6.5, 7.5, 7.9 and Frank Costanzos biggest fluke of his life, a 8.4
lbder! 24 fares had over 200 fluke on the day keeping 17.
We finished the day up with a quick Bail job on the porgies with
several fish near or over the 3 lb mark! Capt Neil and his
buddy Tommy both had huge porgies which weighed in at 3.4 lbs
apiece! Now thats a porgie!!
Paul 7.9lbs
Frank Costanzo 8.4lbs!!!
Charlie 7.5 lbs
joe the "prefessa"
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 Very good trip this morning. 8 fares enjoyed great action
on the ebb as nearly 200 fluke were caught. On the
slack tide we ran over some huge piles of porgies so we switched
over and bailed jumbos up to 3 lbs! Switched back to
fluke for the first of the incoming and put another mess of shorts
and a few keepers in the boat. Kept 12 fluke to 5.5 lbs and
released a ludicrous amount of 18-20 inch should be keepers.
Artie the veteran was high hook with over 30 fluke, 3 keepers
including the pool, plus a bucket of jumbos! The area is
like an aquarium right now. Piles and piles of sandeels and
bait where ever you go, blues and bass boiling all over the place,
fluke galore, birds everywhere. Man I lover this time of
the season!
Our Pm Porgie Special was awesome
as well!! Big Porgies all night!!! Great trip!
Big Des with Artie the Veteran and Ray his student.
Tueday, June 1, 2010 It was a little tough out there today. Drift was flying
all day well over a knot with all the wind. Made for extremely
poor bucktailing conditions. ton of bait around and some nice
fluke came over the rail but it was a challenge. 17 anglers had 80
fluke on the day with 18-20 keepers to 6.9 lbs.
Fish were holding tight to one edge. The Desena boys led the
way with 5 keepers between them including the pool! Anthony
senior we missed you! Heal up soon! Though without you
there was a lot more fish for your boys to catch! :)
pm trip was cancelled due to the weather.
Monday, May 31, 2010 First off and most importantly, let us all remember today about
the tremendous sacrifice made for all of by our military, all our
veterans and their families.
As we get to sit here and enjoy a days fishing where our biggest
concern is that we have a bad drift with wind against tide or that
god forbid fishing is a little slow on the day, thousands of brave
men and woman have put their lives in harms way, living in constant
danger and fear apart from their families so that we all may live in
freedom.
To all our service men and woman, your families and our great
veterans...THANK YOU!! we do not forget what you all have done for
us!
Brief fishing report:
Excellent porgies on the am trip. very very good. some
fluke.
mid trip: some porgies, not that good though,
just a pick.
pm trip: very very good porgies. several
over 3 lbs. a great night!!
Sunday, May 30 , 2010
Awesome trip today on Capt Neils Charter. Took a little while
to find them but once we did it was a great pick for the rest of the
day. Finished up with 350-400 fluke, over 50 keepers!
Excellent quality with plenty of fish in the 4-5 lb class, a few
6's, two over 7 lbs and largest over 8 lbs! A great day with a
super bunch of guys! We will be sailing back to this
area again on Tuesday's fluke special. Give a call if you
would like to join us!
Capt Chris had a fantastic morning trip today
with the porgies. the big jumbos were right he left them from
the day before. Plenty of fish for everyone. They also
had a few fluke and bluefish as well.
The mid day trip was slow as the scup were really
scattered up with all the boat traffic. We had a couple dozen
porgies and some fluke but no great shakes. The PM trip was
decent as the porgies started to gather up again off the beach in
the evening. Picked away all night. Here are
pictures from yesterdays festivities!
Jumbo porgies on the fishfinder on the AM trip
today!
Jerry 8 lb pool winner!
Big Rack!!!
Saturday, May 29, 2010
Sailed on our East End Special today. Bite was little different
today than during the week. The bait moved off the shoal a bit and
the fish were hanging on the slope in a little deeper water.
But nonetheless it was a steady pick all morning on the incoming
tide. Worked the edge all day and put together a decent catch.
The quality was excellent with several fish in the 5 lb class, 4
over 6lbs and 1 7lb pool winner. 175 fluke on the day,
32 keepers for 27 anglers. Lee was high hook with 18 fluke, 4
keepers (orl)
Capt Chris had a great day on the half day trips.
Though fluking was slow, there was a huge pile of very large porgies
on the slope where he was fluking. It was great fishing
for all the kids and families with lots of jumbos coming up!
Largest weighed in at over 3 lbs! The best porgie fishing of
the year so far! Everyone went home with plenty of fish
for dinner and most important the kids had a great time. Below are
some pictures of the fishfinder showing the huge school of porgies
frolicking on the bank!
18 inch 3lbs!!
Fluke from today!
Friday, May 28, 2010 Another very solid day today on the fluke grounds!! 27
keepers on the day and many more that were released.
Plenty of room on our East End Special tomorrow. Weather and
conditions look great. Come one down if you would like to join
us!
Thursday, May 27, 2010 Great porgie fishing tonight! Porgies are schooling up
thick now on the beach and bit very well on our pm trip. We
also had a bunch of nice sea bass as well. This is a great
trip for the kids! Sailing every evening on these Porgie
Specials
We didnt sail on our morning trip but are
definitely going tomorrow to get back in on the hot fluke bite!
Wednesday, May 26, 2010 Limited out early today! Great flukin now!
Larry Wicker had his limit, won the pool and at least 25 fluke on
the morning! Lots of action with many many 20 inch giant
shorts. For the hell of it to top off an already great day
Capt Chris made a stop and put some nice porgies in the boat as
well. Awesome day!
Fluke are here and they are chewin! East
end Special tomorrow. !
Frank from last nights jumbo porgies trip!
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
Great fishing today!! We sailed on our East
End Fluke Special and had 350 -400 fluke, action all day long.
Many fares had 30 fluke on the day. Tons of fish in the 20
inch range. High hook was 4 keepers. Some nice meaty
ones too with the pool weighing in at 7 3/4 lbs! 30 keepers on
the day. Beautiful weather. All around a great trip!
We are sailing again on another East End Special
this thursday and again on Saturday! Come on!!! Fluke are
here!
Sunday, May 23, 2010 Very bad conditions today but we were able to put together a
good catch. Lousy east wind, snotty conditions and outgoing
tide against the wind is not your ideal situation when planning a
great fluke trip. Nonetheless the gang from noreast.com hung
in there and we found a good body of fluke to work on late morning.
Ended up with 150 fluke, 30 keepers to 6 lbs. Not a bad day at
all!
Fluke are here!! Headed back out for
another Eastend Special on Tuesday!
Last nights porgies bite was very slow!!!
bite was off sound wide once that east wind came up. It
happens. Everyone had a few for dinner but not what we
hoped for. They are here though and will be hungry again
real soon!
Saturdays East End Special started off very well
with plenty of nice fluke coming over the rail. It died out
and the bite really shut down midway through and was slow the rest
of the day. 200 fluke, 15 keepers before it slowed down.
Cant wait to get back down there on Tuesday! Here is a nice
report from the Veteran which he posted on noreast.com:
"decided to jump on the
CQ's 1st east end trip today with my wife and my little daughter
Hailey. i would first like to state that if you have children, Capt.
Chris makes an excellent Nanny :) while you fish - i think he's
ready for 1 LOL! everybody on the boat helped us out and Capt. John
was just great today, single handedly doing all the deckwork and
cleaning the fish. we got to the spot about an hour and 45 minutes -
immediately, nice action! my wife was into a nice 6 1/2 pounder
which turned out to be one of the pool fishes! i myself had 25
shorts and my limit. my wife had 15 shorts and yes, the One keeper -
the Pool :) after that, it was sporadic action here and there. when
the tide died, Capt. Chris went the extra mile and looked for some
piles of porkchops for us but after 3 drops, not even the porkchops
were biting. had so much fun with everybody. it was nice to see a
few of the regulars - phil, mr lee, mike and his son. my double hats
off today goes to capt. jon for breaking his butt and doing a great
job. can't wait to go again next week, especially now that capt.
neil informed us that we're on on the May 30th trip :) here's a few
pictures from todays fun. God Bless and Keep 'em tight...
the Veteran
and again, thanks to the entire CQ family. we missed you Desi! but
everybody deserves a day off here and there... but don't start
taking too many
Here are a few recent pics:

and daughter Haily!
Friday, May 21, 2010
Very solid fluke action again today. We had the hudson anglers out
on a charter and it was action all day with over 350 fluke landed.
Most anlgers had 1-4 keepers (orl) and high hook was 40 fluke. Pool
was 6.6 lbs. Bucktails were key once again.
Fluke are here guys!!
Porgie fishing was also good last night with
plenty of big porgies! Here are a few pics:
Tuesday, May 17, 2010 No sail today with the weather. Yesterday was a very solid
day all around. The morning bite was slow where we have been
catching well. We picked a few fluke here and there and waited
for the tide to turn to see if the bite would pick up but it never
did. Looked around a bit and Capt Amanda gave us a call and
put us onto a nice body of fluke for the rest of the day.
Finished up with over 200 fluke, keeping over 30 up to 5 lbs.
Many 20 inch plus fish were released. The fluke are here
and definitely on the feed. All the boats in the area caught
well today!
The PM Porgie Special was very good. Lots
of BIG porgies to over 3 lbs were landed. Very good tides
coming up this week for these trips. Bring the kids. Its
PORGY TIME!
Lastly, due to popular demand and some very good
fishing reports that we have received from down east, we will be
sailing on a EAST END FLUKE SPECIAL leaving at 6:30am this Saturday,
May 22 as well as Saturday May 29th! We will also be
running these special trips every Tuesday and Thursday and may add a
few more! These trips are by reservation so please book ahead.
Below are a few pics from both trips
Today I sailed on the CQ for the start of the FLUKE
season. It feels as though last year never stopped. The morning
started out slow with the bad tide but by 10am the bite was on.We
had about 25 fisherman on board and I think at last count 225 to 250
FLUKE came over the rail with 35 keepers over 21 inches. Its just the
start of a great season on a great boat.O by the way the CQ now has
a second boat at the dock so there is always a spot ready for an
eager fisherman.Capt DESI, Capt CHRIS and TOMMY made the day a great
start to my season,Thanks for a wonderful day see you all real soon.
TWEETY
Sunday, May 16, 2010 Despite the poor drift we put some nice fluke in the boat with
a few guys limiting out. We had to power drift most of the
morning and picked at the fish. The last half hour of the trip
we finally started to get a drift and the bite was decent the last
few drifts. Finished up with 50 fluke, 15 keepers.
Some big fish in the mix as well. We have a new leader in the
largest fluke of the season to win the custom rod. Todays pool
was an 8.2lb beauty!
The mid day trip was a slow pick with a dozen or
so keepers. Nothing great though. A few nice fish.
We had dead low tide on our Porgie trip, the bite
came together for the last part of the trip once the tide picked up.
. Capt Jp worked hard and found a decent pile of porgies to
end up the trip. Everyone went home with fish for dinner.
With better tide the porgie bite should be great this week!
Here are a few shots from todays fluke trips:
8.2 lb pool winner!!
Pete Messina
Saturday, May 15, 2010 Solid fluking today. The morning was a little tricky with
the stiff NW wind and incoming tide. The outgoing was best on
our mid day trip. Fish were sitting on the slope 22-25 feet of
water and it was a decent pick with the west wind. Finished
the day up with some nice fluke including one 5, two 6 lbders, and
one 7.10 lbder. The big flattie was caught by Jay from
Noreast.com and he is currently in the lead to win the beautiful
custom rod donated by Ralph "Rodwinder" for the largest fluke of the
season! Ken Scott fished both trips for a dozen
nice fluke keeping his limit on both trips (orl) Ten
year old Quinn was back for his first trip of the season and caught
his limit as well. Way to start it off Quinn!
Here are a few pics from the day:
Jay, 7lb 10 oz pool winner!
Quinn is back!!! Limited out!

Friday, May 14, 2010 We did not sail with the weather this morning. Yesterdays
fluke action was great though on the outgoing tide to end the trip.
Capt Chris found a nice pile of fluke to work on and everyone went
home with fish! Several large fluke had to be released but
will hopefully be waiting for us tomorrow!
The pm trip was organized by Jeff Rocco to raise
money for Autism Speaks. He did an awesome job putting a great
bunch of people together and raised $1400 to the cause. Great
job Jeff! The porgie fishing was very good at the beginning of
the trip with plenty of nice jumbos coming over the rail and slowed
as the current picked up. All in all a very enjoyable trip!
Looks like the fluke and Porgies are really
starting to settle in. The next few weeks is always some of
the best fishing for the whole season!
Here are a few recent pics:
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 We did not sail today with the weather. Yesterday, we had
a good showing of larger fluke......but there was one problem.
Most of them were too big! A good problem to have. We
kept a few in the slot and release several more of 20 inches.
We also had a handful of very large porgies as well.
John Brisciana led the way with 11 fluke on the
day, 8 of which were over 20 inches up to 6.5 lbs. Hopefully
these big plumpies will be waiting for us on Saturdays regular
season opener!
Monday, May 10, 2010 We havent sailed much recently with the weather. Last trip
was Friday and we puts some nice fluke in the boat. Nothing
crazy yet but 4 fares had a pick up fluke on the day and everyone
went home with fish for the day. Also, it was great to see
that the porgies are showing up. There were huge piles around
on the fluke grounds during the day. We tried for them on the
evening trip Friday and had a slow pick. That should bust open
this week as they are really starting to stack up!
Check out the screen shot from our fishfinder
showing a nice pile of scup from Friday. We will be running
these porgie specials every evening starting this week. Bring
the kids and come out and have some fun!
Wednesday, May 5, 2010 Picture perfect day today with warm temps and calm seas
Everything looks good with lots of Sandeels and terns everywhere.
The fluke bite was slow with just a few fluke here and there.
We kept 5 in the slot size, released one 23 incher and threw a bunch
of shorts. Hopefully very soon the bite will happen!
Saturday, May 1, 2010
Today was the fluke opener! We did find some life on the
slopes, but nothing great yet. 15 fluke were landed on
the day largest about 4 lbs. A few were in the slot of 17-20
inches. Bucktails had all the action and Joe Deptula was high
hook with 5 fluke.
There was a very good showing of bait on the
shoals and the terns are just showing up which is a good sign.
The fluke we did cut were chock full of sandeels. There have
been fluke caught to 8lbs locally within the past week so hopefully
this is just the beginning of good days to come!
Finished up the blackfish season yesterday. About 45 tog on
the day, 20 keepers. The water temp was actually colder
yesterday than when we began the season on April 11! Slow day
but Im sure they will bite their faces off this week now that the
warm weather has come back and the season is closed!
Sailing everyday for fluke and in a week or so we
will start to combo in the porgies!!
Saturday, Aprl 24, 2010
Bite was slower today for whatever reason. A few pieces had some
life, but not like yesterday.
Finished up the day with 30 keepers, 70 total tog. Bob Mastrangelo
took the lead for the largest tog of the season with 8 lb beauty!
The largest tog of the season will win a beautiful custom rod
generously donated by Ralph"Rodwinder" himself!
Chartered tomorrow and weather looks lousy for monday as of right
now.
We will fish for tog all week and then FLuke will begin on Saturday
May 1 !! (by special rsa permit)
\Friday, April 23, 2010 Beautiful day out there today. Found good life on several
different pieces and put together a nice catch of blackfish.
Finished the day with 60 keepers and over 125 tog for the day.
Johnny sinkers won the pool with a 7 lb beauty. Out of respect
for their father, the Desena boys allowed their father to catch all
the fish today, as he finished up high hook with 7 keepers, (orl)
Nice job old timer! :)
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 Good bite today! Caught em well in several different
depths with a better showing of larger fish today 4-7 lbs.
Sandy from the DEC was onboard and kept the official tally today. 20
anglers had 118 tog with 51 keepers to 7 lbs.
The pool fish was an impressive 335 millimeters in length! :)
Lucky Lindy led the way with 6 keepers (orl)
Monday, April 19, 2010 Sailed with 7 fares today. Had good life in the deep
water in the morning. Tried another drop 60 feet and not much
going on. Headed back to the deep and had some more action to
finish the trip. We ended up with 50 tog, 15 keepers for
the morning before heading home early after the wind and current
picked up. Big Glen lead the way with his limit of tog.
Here are a few pics:
Sunday, April 18, 2010 Tog are starting to bite! We didnt sail all week with
weather and annual coast guard inspections etc. Happy to
report that we got out today though and the tog are starting to turn
on. Nothing super yet, but we did have 100 tog or so, keeping
25. Matteo won the pool with a 6 lb tog. Some good life
in the afternoon once the water warmed up. all on clams.
Trying to get back out there again tomorrow. Just a few signed
up. Give a call if you can join us!
Sunday, April 11, 2010
Opening day today. Beautiful day out there, lots of great
customers, but slow fishing. The water temp was very high in
the upper 40's, several degrees warmer than when they started biting
last year. We ended up with 3 keepers and a dozen shorts.
One of the keepers was over 7 lbs though. Nice fish caught by
Winston!
Also, we are happy to announce that we have some
great prizes this year that have been generously donated from one of
the top custom rod builders in the country, Ralph Rodwinder himself.
The largest blackfish of the season as well as the largest fluke
will win a free custom rod built by Ralph. Good
luck to everyone. So far Winstons 7.2 is in the lead!
They will start biting any day now. We are
going to try again later in the week. Please give a call if
you are interested in joining us!
Winston 7.2 lbs
Sunday, March 21, 2010 Well, we are all done with our cod season and the Celtic Quest
IV is now safely back in Port Jefferson! What an amazing cod
season it was though. We saw some epic fishing for sure,
certainly some of the finest local cod fishing our area has ever
seen. It was great to work with some of the finest party
and charter captains around and so encouraging to see so many boats
working together out there. I know I speak for my crew
when I say how grateful we feel to have been part of it all.
Not only did we have several huge runs of cod
move through the areas south and southeast of block island, the bite
lasted for nearly 3 months! Of course there were some
very slow trips mixed in, just as fishing goes, but all in all the
average trip saw very good to fantastic catches of cod.
"Limiting out" was more the norm than the exception, and some
of the trips saw some down right LUDICROUS fishing. It
was a great shot in the arm for many boats who are trying their best
to make it in a very difficult industry in hard times.
Lets hope this fishery can continue for years to come!
We will resume sailing for Spring Blackfish on
April 17. Our fluke season will begin on May 1 and our Porgie
season around May 10. Hope to see you then!
Friday, March 19, 2010 Cod are still here! The morning bite was excellent till 9am,
then a pick and a very slow afternoon. Beautiful day out there and
great to see that the cod are still chewin!
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 Very slow day out there today for some reason. We were
reading fish all over but just couldnt get them to bite.
Yesterday saw a good morning bite on anchor and a slow afternoon.
finished up with about 150 keepers to 20 lbs. Ed Palmer and
Jim Foley tied for high hook with 14 keepers a piece. looks
like we will be blown out through the weekend. Hope to get
back out there again next week!
Monday, March 8, 2010 Great fishing today in beautiful weather. Hundreds of cod!
Yesterday was a slow pick on the drift for some reason but today was
awesome again.
Saturday, March 6, 2010 INCREDIBLE today!!! FUll boat limit and many more (orl) by
7:45 am!!!! Lot of teen sized stuff, several in the twenties
and even a few approaching 30 lb!!! Insane!!
Guys, this video and this report from one of our
customers who was aboard today says it all! AMAZING!!
This morning
myself and my buds Mark and Tom had just the most unbelievable lock
and load cod fishing aboard the Celtic Quest. Desi put the hooks
down once and we never had to move. At first light the fish bit well
enough. If the bite stayed like it was then for the rest of the day
it would have been good fishing leading to many limits. Instead, the
fish very quickly got better and nice size cod began coming over the
rails at a lock and load pace. By 8 am most had limits.
Then it happened...I cant find words to say how incredibly sick the
bite was between 8am and 9am. It was literally hit bottom and lock
up on a fish immediately! If you wanted a double header just wait a
few seconds after you hook a fish before starting to crank. It was
double headers at will. At 9 am my two fishing partners and I had
easily caught over 75 to 80 cod. At 9am with the bite still insane.
We pulled the hook and headed in with big smiles! We had lots of
fish that were in the 15lb range and there were 5 or 6 fish on the
boat that were in the 30lb range...monsters. tHE FISHING WAS SO
INSANE ...my buddy Mark snapped a rod trying to lift a fish and the
guy next to him lost his rod over board trying to do the same.
Celtic Quest Cod Chaos!!!... it was unbelievable.
Thanks for a great day Desi, Paul and Amanda!!!
Friday, March 5, 2010 Slayed the cod today! Full boat limit by 9:30.
Headed home early. High hook close to 30 keepers.
awesome!
March 2, 2010 Very good day today! Capt Paul just reported in to
say that 16 fares had a nice steady bite on the drift all morning.
Some nice gaffers in the mix as well. High hooks well into the
teens. (orl) Beautiful day out there.
Weather looks great for the end of the week and weekend. Give
a call if you want to get in on the action!

Saturday Feb 20, 2010 We had the noreast.com gang out for a day of codfishing. The
morning bite was savage, where we put 220 keepers in the boat with
just as many shorts. The mid day bite slowed down, but the cod began
to bite their heads off once again in the early afternoon, which led
to a full boat limit. High hook was 25 keepers ORL. As always it was
a great time with the Noreast gang!!!
Here is a report from Propellar John who posted
this on Noreast.com:
Capt. Paul put us on the
meat today. there was a couple of hundred keepers by 8am for 35 of
us noreast
boys. and by the finish a full boat limit. i shuffled
through over 50 cod myself with 15 chunky keepers (ORL). the cod
were hard on the clam & i only saw one short caught on a jig. all
fishing was at anchor. it was an awesome day with thanks to glenn (

From Opening Day
Saturday, Feb 13, 2010 Great day today!!! Started with a slow pick around dawn.
The bite built up and was excellent for the rest of the morning.
That bite slowed around noon and we headed east a bit to finish up
with some RED HOT drifts on the open bottom. Great way to end
what was already a very good day! Many limits reached and then
some. Some nice quality fish in the teens as well. Here
are a few pics: The party boat fleet working together. Everyone was
catching well!

Another very good day yesterday. Anchored up on a nice piece of
bottom. Chummed em up for a half an hour and built up a good bite
for the rest of the day.
The fish came in waves and by days end, we put together a very good
catch. Noreast's very own Sal Amendolia, along with his trusty
friends Bob and Bill put together over 30 keepers (orl). High hooks
had their limits and then some. All in all and nice day out there
with lots of cod!
Tuesday, Feb 2, 2010
Another very good catch today. The morning bite on anchor didnt
happen where it has been hot. Looked around and found plenty of fish
to work on the rest of the day on the drift.
Plenty of limits and then some(orl) great day!
Monday, Feb 1, 2010
Im sure you all have heard by now, the codfishing was awesome for
the entire fleet out there yesterday!
We made one drop for the day to catch all we needed. Started out as
a slow pick at sun up and built from there. by 9am it was lock and
load. Pull anchor around noon and made a few drifts on the open
bottom for a few more before calling a day.
Most everyone who braved the elements had their limit and then some.
Bruce Coleran was high hook with 20 fish. (orl) Pool fish in the
teens.
Great day. video from the trip is now up at http://celticquestfishing.com/
Sailing tomorrow. Weather looks great for the next few days.. Plenty
of room.

Some weather this week!
We did manage to get off the dock with a few guys yesterday. The
bite was way off from what it had been though.
12 fares had around 80 cod on the day keeping 24 and that took a lot
of work to put together.
We didnt sail today and tomorrow is cancelled. We are all sold
out for the rest of the weekend but have plenty of room again
starting monday.
Give us a call if you would like to join us! thanks
January 24th, 2010 Very good day today. decent moring bite and an very very

the bigger better patch of fish. afternoon bite was great prob
put on 80 keepers in the last hour alone. Had the pleasure of
having Capt walter from the fishfinder on deck today service was
excellent. Most fish caught on bait I had 2 on jig.had a great
time thanks to capt and crew

Here is a report from one of our customers that was posted on
norest.com:
Finally got a chance to get out to
Montauk today and was lucky enough to get on the Celtic Quest 1AM
cod trip. After a quick anchor fix at the dock, we were under way at
1:12 AM. Took a 2 hour steam and Captain Paul set the anchor at 3:14
AM. We had very calm seas for most of the trip.
As soon as our clam baits hit the bottom, we were into keeper cod.
Fast and furious action from the time we got there till around 6:45
AM. I, along with 3 others in the bow had our limit before the sun
reached the horizon. Lots of action with shorts as well. Most of the
keepers were in the 23-25 inch range with a few going a little
bigger.I also picked up 2 four foot silver eels during the morning
bite on consecutive drops. I only reeled up 3 times in the
pre-sunrise hours without a fish.
My biggest cod came in at 28 inches, 9 pounds, and I ended up with
11 keepers and 5 or 6 shorts, and lost a few.
After the pre-sunrise cod blitz, we tried lots of drifts with the
jigs, but unfortunately, they just weren't turning on to the jigs
for us today. We picked a cod here and there along with a few dogs,
ocean pout, and eels.
At the end of the day I think we were like 5 fish shy of a boat
limit for 16 people. Everyone went home with a nice bag of fillets
today.
Another cool sight today was a huge Humpback whale that launched
itself completely out of the water and then flapped its tail and it
was gone.
All in all, it was a great trip to Montauk. The CQ IV is a
beautiful, comfortable boat to fish, and the warm cabin was great in
between drifts.I think high hook was 26 keepers!(orl)No huge ones
today but the quantity made up for it.
Captain and crew worked hard for a very enjoyable trip. Hopefully
this great cod bite continues and I can get back out for another
trip or two this winter.

Tough conditions out there today. Had to look around a bit this
morning but found a decent pile to work on for a while.
All fish were taken on the drift, mostly on jigs. Some nice ones in
the teens as well. Unfortunately the wind really came on and the
drift got too fast. The fish were there but conditions made it very
difficult.
The morning bite was good. The rest of the day was tough. We hit one
wreck as well that had a nice shot of cod with some larger ones as
well up to 16 lbs. From 11am on it was a struggle with the weather
with a few cod and ling on each drop.
High hook was 7 keepers. Pool was 16 lbs. 55 keepers for the day.
Thursday: January 15, 2010
What a beautiful day out there yesterday. Flat calm all day and warm
(relative to the past week! )
Started up the day on anchor and had a nice pick of fish until sun
up. Pulled the anchor and had a few good drifts on bait and jigs.
After that slowed we checked out a few more spots. All of them had
life with a handful of cod on each and some ling, but no great
shakes. One piece had 20 nice keeper cod on it.
Finished the day up on a wreck. Lots of life, put some more nice cod
in the boat and many shorts that were released.
Brian Gillespie was high hook catching 25 cod, 8 keepers. Catch of
the day was a beautiful 20 lb monkfish!
Weather looks nice for tomorrow and Sunday.
Sunday we will be sailing at a SPECIAL TIME 1AM!. The night bite has
been the best so if you want to get out there a little earlier just
give a call.
Tuesday, January 13, 2010
Cod fishing has been great. Check out video from opening day at
http://celticquestfishing.com/
Yesterday we put together a good catch as well, not the bail job
like sunday but high hooks still had their limit of cod.
Sunday, January 11, 2010
Just got the hot report from Capt Des. The first trip of the Cod
season was a great success! 17 Anglers easily caught their limit,
with high hook in the mid 20s (ORL). The morning bite on
clams was great and the afternoon bite on jigs was red hot!
We will be sailing every day weather permitting. As of now the
weather for tomorrow (Monday) looks great. Warmer temps with light
winds.
