Here is a fantastic report from a customer who posted this on Noreast.com:

Just got in from another great trip on the Celtic Quest. Boat was scheduled for fluke fishing....picked away throughout the day. On the way in Capt. Chris decided to make one more quick drop to see if the stripers were biting. And by quick stop, I mean quick stop. It was lock and load action on nice quality sized striped bass. Only took the entire boat20-30 minutes tops to limit. That's right folks you're reading this correct, 20-30 minutes for a full boat limit on striped bass. Capt Chris thank you for an awesome trip and hats off to the mate Pete who worked his butt off during the striper blitz.

Here is another great report from a customer who posted this on Noreast.com too:

Went out this morning on the CQ with Capt Chris at the helm and Capt Pete working deck. First let me say what an absolute pleasure it was seeing Pete, he is one of my all time favorite mates. Great humorous personality and extremely knowledgeable. Welcome home to PJ, Peter!

The fluking started slow and tapered off. Chris worked very hard to find them, but they remained elusive. We wound up with 7 keepers for 13 passengers. Even the short action was a bit slow today. I had 2 keepers, but only one would have been a keeper last year. The pool fish was 6 pounds. I don’t know why it was so slow. Rainwater runoff? Too early? Remember in previous years we didn’t start until May 15th. Whatever the reason it was not for lack of trying or skill.

In the afternoon Chris decided to jig for some bass. It was a great decision, we limited out the boat in 22 minutes. First drop went something like this:

One on!

Two on!

Three on!

Etc.

Second, third, fourth and fifth drift were exactly the same!

Pete and Chris were running around the netting and gaffing stripers. The majority were keepers, very few shorts which had to be measured because even the shorts were that big. In the end we wound up with 26 bass many over 10 lbs and the bigger ones weighed in the mid to upper teens.

Just a great day of fishing, my thanks to Chris and Pete for turning a slow day into a bail job!

Regards to all,

Clamso

Good action this morning on the incoming tide!!  Joey D was High Hook with 3 keepers, 2 of which were over 5lbs!!!  Action slowed after the tide changed as we had wind against.  Some bigger fish today which is always nice to see!

Also, got some good scup reports from the small boat fleet.  After this moon is over, things should really heat up!!

Sailing daily for Fluke at 7am and scuppin' at 4:45pm.

 2011 Fishing Reports

Here is a nice article from newsday:

Kidsday: Gone fishing!

At the end of the school year, all of the fourth-graders at our school went to Port Jefferson Harbor for a fishing trip. We went on the boat Celtic Quest. On the boat they went to three different stations in the morning. At one station there was an activity book. Another station was called Fish Trivia, and at the last station, the mates taught us how to fish.

We caught so many fish! The biggest one was 15 pounds, and it was a striped bass. Some other fish were caught, and they were porgies and black sea bass. Some kids caught sea robins, but we threw them back. Someone even caught a small sand shark!

We fished for a while in the Port Jeff Harbor. Then the captain took us out to Long Island Sound, where the water was a little rougher. We caught some fish there, too. Two other classes went on a second day, and they caught even more fish than we did. They had better weather so they went further out into the Sound. After we fished, the mates were dredging and catching some creatures from the bottom of the Sound.

They caught hermit crabs, snails and spider crabs. It was fun to look at the creatures. One of the spider crabs even got out of the basket and was walking around. This was the best fishing trip ever!

December 10, 2011

We are all done for the 2011 season!  Yesterdays trip was very slow and we are not sailing the rest of the weekend.  We will resume again beginning of Januray for Cod sailing from Uileins Marina in Montauk.  Thanks so much to all of you who sailed with us this year.  We greatly appreciate it!!

December 4, 2011

Capt Chris reports that they had another excellent day on the Tog grounds!! OVer 60 keepers again for 18 fares with some real good quality in the mix!

December 3, 2011

Tog are still biting well !!

Capt Chris had another very good day today with over 100 blackfish, 60 plus keepers up to 7 lbs today!!

We caught on drops that normally by this time of year are usually too shallow, but with the warm fall the tog are still in the mid water ranges and biting very well! Great to see !

With the strong tog bite going on, Capt Jared on the half day trip decided to switch over as well, made two drops for over 30 blackfish, 15-20 keepers before heading home. nice trip!

Solid day all around and tomorrows weather looks primo. Plenty of room if you would like to join us!!

November 21, 2011

Weather has been terrible.  We got out sat and sunday fighting the elements.  Just havent had that nice day with light winds in several days.  Its been limiting where we fish a bit.  we picked away on sauturday with 35 keepers or so and a couple dozen on sunday.  Capt Jared had some decent jig action for bass and blues on the last of the outgoing.  The incoming was slow on saturday.  Sunday jared fished some deep water structure and found some good action with blues and a few bass.

The tides line up very good for next weekend!  Friday and Saturday we will be running special trips fro Bass and Blues that correspond with the prime outgoing moon tide.  Should be good!  12pm-4pm next Friday and Saturday!

November 16, 2011

Awesome trips today!  Light crowd had a FULL BOAT LIMIT today!  We also released many other keepers before heading home early.  High hook was 9 keepers.  All around excellent day!

November 12, 2011

Capt Jared just checked in and reported a slammer trip!!!  Light crowd sailed today on the 12-4 trip despite the windy conditions, they beat on the fish!!!  All the Blues you wanted to 14.7lbs!!!!!  As well as 40+ short bass and 4 keepers bass!!  Sailing tomorrow at 12pm bass and blues, just show up no reservation required!!!  Don't miss this great fall fishing.  We will be running a jigging boat next weekend as well due to the great fishing!! See our schedule for more details.  Also, the 7am boat a go tomorrow for Black Fish, weather looks good for us!!!!

Come on by before it's over!!!!!

November 10, 2011

Tog to 10.2 lbs today!!!!!   Despite the full moon, a light crowd put 4 keeper blackfish int he boat to 10.2 lbs.  Some real nice quality today.  Joe Oakley was high hook with 7 keepers plus to beauty pool winner of 10.2 which we kept alive and released at the end of the day!  Congrats Joe and thanks for releasing this beautiful tog!!

November 7, 2011

What a beautiful day on the water yesterday!  Made it a little challenging with the tons of boats out there enjoying the great conditions but nonetheless we were able to put together a nice catch.

80 keepers were landed on the open boat trip and our charter had 45 keepers with some nice fish in the 7-8lb class.  Nothing like toggin in the 60 degree weather!

Weather looks awesome for tomorrow!  End of week doesn't look so good though.

Fishing has been very good for the most part.  We had a few slow half day trips when we missed the tide a bit, but all in all most trips have been excellent!!  Lots of big porgies in the middle grounds.   The chunking trips were fantastic with tons of big blues.  and the full day trips are seeing 10 - 20 blackfish and lots of porgies.

Capt chris found some great bottom up in the shallow water that is holding some nice tog on our eastern trips. Look forward to getting back out there.  Weather is lousy for a few days but hopefully the end of the week we can get back out!

Sunday Oct 2 ,2011

BAIL JOB today on the 9am-1pm trip!  The middle grounds were on fire as some anglers had over 30 porgies in under two hours of fishing!  Red Hot NOW at the Middle.

Capt Paul sailed with 7 anlgers on the full day.  They managed around a Dozen keeper Blackfish with some very good quality but Paul remarked the water was very dirty inshore.  Hopefully when the water clears up the blackfish bite should pick up nicely!

With the fantastic bottom fishing in the Middle Grounds right now, we are going to sail everyday at least through Thursday from 7am-3pm to get in on the Hot Porgie fishing. We will try again on the East End trip probably on Friday.

Saturday, Oct 1, 2011

Opening day of blackfish was yesterday! We had around a dozen keepers on a few inshore drops and then finished up with the porgies to end the day. We will continue to keep mixing in the tog drops from here on out!

Capt Chris reports they had an excellent night on the porgies and blues on the pm trip. One drop was all it took to put a real nice catch together.  10 year old George Glidersleeve had two full buckets, one filled with blues, the other with nice porgies.  Way to go George!

Friday, Sept 30, 2011

Yesterday was HOT fishing!!!  Just a Pick in the first part of the trip on the change of tide.  Then we crushed the blues on jigs.. all you wanted!!!  Second half of the trip Capt Jared set up over a huge school of porgies for a terriffic catch of big scup!  what a day!

Today, Capt Chris tried a few deeper drops and a wreck to start but it was slow.  He then set up in the same area as yesterday and landed around 500 scup for the day.  The down tide side of the boat caught very well and the port side finished up strong as the tide eased off.   Everyone went home with a nice bag of fish.  Tomorrow we will begin mixing in some drops for blackfish as well as continue with the excellent bottom fishing!

Monday, Sept 26th, 2011

INSANE BAIL JOB on today school trip to the Middle Grounds!  The kids had an amazing time catching all the blues you could possibly imagine in 3 drifts!  What a great time.

Last nights pm charters were slow as the fish shut off on the incoming for some reason.  Today thank god was incredible!

Great Fishing Yesterday! Capt Chris had a great catch of porgies on the morning trip. Plenty of Super Jumbos in the mix plus lots of blues. The Jigging was red hot on the outgoing tide with all the blues up to 13lbs you could handle. The evening trips were excellent as Capt Jared slayed the blues with most of them 8-12 lbs! Great day! Blackfish starts Oct 1 !!!

Tuesday Sept 20, 2011

The bluefish action continues to be the main focus as they have been holding strong in the rips.  We started off the Friday 4:30pm trip jigging, within a short time everyone had caught their fill of blues so we made a switch and finished off the evening with a pick of porgies.

Both Friday and Saturday 9:25pm chunking trips saw good bluefish action with some larger fish exceeding 10lbs. making a showing on Saturdays trip.  The fall run is beginning to take shape and its time to get in on some excellent fishing.

Sunday Sept 18, 2011

The full day porgie trips were great the last few days we sailed on them with Lots of nice big porgies.  The Diamond jigging has been very very good at the middle grounds as well.  The evening chunking trips were excellent both friday and saturday night!! Todays trips were greatly hampered by the strong east winds and we had to cancel our pm trips.  Excellent Fall fishing going on right now!!

Thursday Sept 15, 2011

Today was a repeat of the last few days on the jigging front, solid action on the incoming tide!!!! Capt Paul had the boat on the meat right away and loaded the boat with blues!!!!! Since the storm the blues have shown up in great numbers and has been solid and steady on both tides!!!

Today on the full day boat we were very happy to see much improved bottom fishing, scuppin was very good!!! Since the storm it has been very hit and miss, hopefully today was a sign of things to come.

We will be fishing every day at 7am!!!!!  The 9 am day boat ends tomorrow (Friday)!!!!

Hope to see you there!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God, the hurricane is passed an we got through it with no damage, as we really hope all of you didas well.   It was quite a storm and Port Jefferson had a lot of flooding, but it certainly could have been so much worse had the storm been any stronger. Glad that’s passed.

We were able toget back to fishing on Tuesday.   I guess bluefish love hurricanes.  To say Middle Grounds was ON FIRE would be an understatement as the blues have been feasting!   Some trips the fish have been stacked from south of themiddle, all the way through the rips near the lighthouse up to the north greencan.  Quite a sight. !!  Some nice Striped Bass in the Mix as well!   Red hot jigging now!

The porgie fishing hasbeen slow in the shallow water where we were catching before the storm as the water is still churned up a bit. We caught a few on the deeper drops buthopefully the bottom fishing will improve when the water settles a bit.

Here is a report posted by Capt Neil from last night:

Went on the 4:45 trip today. Capt Paul took us out to blue fish city and the blues were waiting for us. Fished next to friends and their children and we all had a blast. Cocktail blues and up to 5# or so. I had a blast! A young girl won the pool with a beautiful big striper. Plenty of totes full with blues. Thank you Caroline, Alex and Brian.

Time to go blues catching!!!

Yesterdays Full day charter saw some really great fishing!!!!!!

Took a ride to some new bottom and they were waiting for us!!!!!!!!!!

36 anglers put a limit of scup on the boat by 12:30. very good scuppin! Tied on the jigs and went looking for the blues, the conditions were not the best but we still managed around 20 blues before calling it a trip.

Cleaned the boat and went right back out with 16 of CAPT NEILS Family as well as some other open boaters.
As Neil said in his report, a repeat of the day trip! good action all around with high hook around 15 scup (orl). A few blues were also in the mix.
As always it is such a pleasure to have Capt Neil on the Boat. Thank you Neil hope to see you soon!!!

Here is Capt Neils report as well:

What a great evening to go porgy fishing, perfect weather, calm seas and beautiful porgys coming over the rail. 16 of us lined the port side of the CQ and fortunately for me in the shade. It was a fabulous family outing with every one catching porgys.

Thanks to Capt chris, Caroline and John for making our trip special.
Thank you Des for being the great friend that you are.

A great day on our Full Day Charter today!!!!!  Capt Chris put em on a few excellent drops of nice sized porgies. Also had some sea bass and blues.  Full boat limit not a problem at all!

The 9am trip was not so lucky as 40-50 porgies were landed, but not nearly what we had been seeing.  Seemed like a lot of blues in the area had the porgies shut down a bit.

Fishing has been really great the past couple of trips!  Lots of very large Porgies, Sea Bass, and lots of Blues.  The kids have been having a blast!  Today saw over 300 beautiful porgies come over the rails and everyone went home extremely happy!  SHould be great fishing from here on out hopefully!!  Check out the one picture below of the basket of some HUGE porgies.  You can see how big they are in relation to Capt Jons hand!

The pm trip sailed with the Turner party of 16.  Steamed East to escape the tide.  It was one drop fishing with scup to three pounds and a few sea bass coming over the rails.  During the pouring rain, 10 brave anglers managed a nice catch of over ninety porgies.  High hook was 17 porgies (only retained limit).  Blues were also in the mix with over twenty caught.  The fishing is continuing to get better.  Bring out the kids to catch the school before school catches them!

Wednesday Aug 11, 2011

We're inbound n the 9AM trip, and fishing continues to improve. Plenty of big porgies were caught by anglers of all experience levels.

Porgy fishing continues to improve in the Port Jeff area, as we saw on yesterdays trips as well. The 9AM trip had good fishing, and the evening trip, despite some heavy rain at times, saw an even better catch. Over one hundred thirty scup were caught by a light crowd. Even first-time fishermen caught plenty of fish.

The porgy fishing has been steadily improving since the new moon passed, and as we approach the full moon, sea bass and blues are showing in the catches more frequently. This pattern should build quickly to give us consistently good fishing for the rest of the summer and rthrough the fall.

After a few weeks of slow fishing, things are picking up nicely!

The past few days the scuppin is improving each day. some C bass and blues are starting to show as well.
Only going to get better as the fall run approaches (amazing we are talking about fall already.)

We will be bottom fishing everday right through the fall!

The highlight of the week was catching a COD in long island sound is Aug(Released).

YES you read that right!!!! .
This is really cool to see and gets us all thinking about the upcoming Cod season in Montauk, we are looking foward to another great cod season and hope to see many of you out in Montauk!!!

Well its been typical mid summer fishing.  Catch em one day gone the next!  We have had a few good catches of nice big porgies, both right outside the harbor and on some of the deep water drops, but some tides they have shut off all together and it has been slow.  Some blues are starting to settle in and that should increase over the next few weeks.  Tons of bait has set up at the middle grounds so hopefully the jig fishing will pick up soon.  Fluking has been a ton of shorts and action, but keepers have been hard to come by so we have been staying mostly with the bottom fishing for porgies and sea bass.  Maybe tomorrow it will bust wide open!!!  :)

Thursday, July 21, 2011
Very good fishing today on the Celtic Quest full day capt choice Special.. several anglers had their limit of large porgies, with nearly a boat limit being caught. There were also many nice sea bass landed, along with bluefish action, for those who were interested.

Upcoming trips should see good porgy action continue, with blues and sea bass adding to the action. Call for reservations, or information about scheduled trips.

Well its been a bit of a hard week.  Catching lots of fluke, great action on many trips but the keeper ratio is way down from what it was.   Some nice keepers here and there, but way off from what it was.   Porgie fishing has been very hit and miss, as often happens this time of year for a week or two.  Some Blues are starting to show up off Old Field so we will be trying to incorporate them into the mix when we see them.  The weather has been great though and the kids are still  having a great time reeling fish in!  Hopefully the next wave a larger fluke will be here soon.

Another great day both fluke and porgie fishing!!

Jays Limited Load Noreast Charter saw continue excellent fluking yesterday!!  20 anglers had 900 fluke on the day, 50 keepers to 6.8 lbs!!!!
High hook was Bill reelcranky with over 60 fluke! The first part of the Ebb was some hot fishin!

Joe Crab man continued with his unprecedented and astonishing display of fluke angling skills.  His streak rivals that of Dimaggios hit streak, Ripkens consecutive games, maybe even Nicholas' Majors, as he won his 3rd consecutive Ralph Rod WInder Rod for the largest fluke on the day!   Amazing!  :)  Joe had 50 fluke for the day with 5 keepers including the game winning 6.8 lbder to keep the streak alive!!

Bill(forgot his screen name)  on the other hand was more reminiscient of the Pre 2000 Red Sox or the Buffalo Bills of the 90's as he finished second yet again for the 2nd consecutive trip losing to Joe and his unparrelled skill, or luck depending on who you talk to.  Nonetheless Bill (forgot his screen name :) put on quite a show as did Bill reel cranky as the two of the fished side by side to put in well over 100 fluke easy!

Dont know how long this will last....so dont wait too long to find out!!!  Headed back again tomorrow on the Capt Neil Invitational Noreast Charter!

The Evening Porgie trips was on fire as well!!  10 anlgers slayed the scup as they have been hoarding up on the shoal every evening now.  FUll boat limit in no time!!!

Solid fishing all around right now!

Last nights porgie trip was excellent!!  Caught em real good and limits were not a problem at all for most aboard.

Todays 9-1 trip was very good as Capt Chris found a huge pile of bass and blues to jig!  very good trip

Capt Paul reports the fluke bite on our east end trip was very good again on the outgoing.  Conditions deteriorated second half of the trip and the bite slowed but still ended up with close to 300 fluke on the day, over 20 keepers.

Tuesday, July 5, 2011
Another good day of fluke fishing today. 20 Anglers managed 18 Keepers up to 7Lbs. 400 plus total fluke.   the short life filled in the gaps nicely keeping everyone busy even with wind against tide conditions. Quinn was high hook with 44 fluke.

It appears that the bigger fluke prefer the outgoing tide. We only had about an hour left of the outgoing tide when we got out there and bailed a majority of our keepers in the first few drifts. As soon as the outgoing tide dropped out so did most of the keeper action. On the incoming tide we moved a little closer to home and kept a pick of fluke going with a few more keepers coming over the rail. If the fluke continue to prefer the outgoing tide the fishing should only get better as the week progresses as we will have more outgoing tide each trip.

Last nights porgie trip was excellent as we had a full boat limit on a beautiful evening! Today we had fluke to over 7lbs again with 10-25 fluke a man average, keeping 30.  Here is a nice report posted by Capt Neil about yesterdays Fluke Fundraiser Trip:

Yesterday was the Fund Raiser trip. Capt Des donated his boat to help me raise funds for a person in need. Thank you my friend for always being so generous.
After concern and worry all week long my friends came thru and we sailed with 55 women, children and men. Beautiful weather, calm seas and a cooling air conditioning wind.

Capt Chris had us in fluke country out east. Pool fluke was 8 lb 12 oz. What a beauty Glenn boated on his new fishing rod. Sean had a 7 1/2 and a 5 lb fluke also on a new rod. The keepers were fine keepers. Morning drifting conditions were difficult and kept mates Caroline, Mark and Joe hopping around the deck untangling lines. Thanks for your hard work.

TommyTeaser donated a dozen of his fluke catching teasers to be raffled off on deck. Thank you Tom as the raffle generated $355, all going to the Fund.
Fred Azaiter had the most punches, 24 and won the rod that was donated.

Glenn won the pool and donated a good portion to the Fund. Thanks Glenn.

My grand daughter Mary Kate and I had lots of fun on deck punching the cards along with my valuable friend Jason who handled all the paper work and finances of the trip.

Thank you one and all for your support.

God is good!
Neil

Incredible week of fluke fishing this week.  Monday was one of the best fluke trips we have ever had.  17 anglers had 1,100 fluke on the day.  Low hook was 50 fluke!  High hooks were double that.  Over 50 keepers.  Had several other stellar trips this week as well.  Today was "slower" ( relative ) :)  as 30 keepers were landed and high hook in the 20's.  Back again tomorrow!   Come on out while its hot flukin!!!  now is the time!!  Pool today was 9 lbs!  (sorry for the delay in reports.  was out of town for a few days! )

Here is a report posted by Rob Crane on Noreast.com:
"fished aboard the Noreast charter on the little CQ and had some sick fishing.Capt Chris at the helm took a 1.5 hr. steam to the east and put us on the mother load of fluke.Average catch was 50-75 fish per person. We had a full boat limit with Crabman getting the pool winner at 8.1 lbs and Mickiebelle with a 7.5lb 2nd place.Plenty of 4 to 6 lb. fish in the mix with consernative estimate of well over a thousand shorts released for 17 people and im not exagerating with those numbers.Fish bit white or green 3/4 to 1 oz. spro bucktails and everything else you tossed at them with or with out any bait. Many of us only used gulp and didn't bother with spearing as the bite was savage.

Awesome Job done by Capt Chris and Mate Caroline today as they were always there when you needed them.Jump on the CQ soon as you can as light tackle fluke bucktailing doesn't get any better than this! "

The bass fishing on the outgoing tide during the day remains HOT!!!  Capt Chris mohawked the Bass on yesterdays charter!  Absolute bonanza!  Unfortunately our mid day charter missed the tide and only caught a few.   The night trip was also slow.  This morning bounced back and was very good with lots of nice keeper bass coming over the rail.  10 year old Quinn Nenninger had 4 keepers himself this morning!

The fluking remains excellent.  Both Locally and on our East End trips!  Tons of action and some very big fluke in the mix as well.

Crazy Fishing on our East End trip today!!!!  the DEC was onboard to count every fish and by days end 9 fares had tallied over 400 fluke!!!  and most of the before noon time!  We had 18 keepers with some great quality as well.  Jack won the pool with a 8.9 lbs doormat!   Bill P was high hook with 64 fluke and 6 keepers!! (orl) The weather turned lousy early afternoon and we headed home after an awesome trip!

Crazy fishing today on our charter.  Capt Chris had em on the meat all day.  Slayed the bass to start the day, then had a great catch of porgies, then caught some fluke, and then finished up the trip with another awesome catch of bass!!  What a day!!

The East End had the change of tide this morning and the bite was slow.  Had to look around a bit and had a good shot of big fluke as the current picked up.  9 fares put 13 keepers in the box, many of them 5lb class and a few larger ones, including two fish close to 8lbs!!

East End fluke was very good today!!!  250-300 fluke, 37 keepers, to 8.2 lbs.  The first push of tide was exceptioanlly good and then a pick for the rest of the day.  !!  Excellent fluking now!

The local diamond jigging for bass is still excellent as well as is the Porgie fishing!!  Love this time of year!!

We had some awesome bass fishing today on a few of the trips!!  The morning was a pick of porgies, bass and blues.  The mid trip was awesome as Capt CHris found a big pile of Striped Bass and blues!  Over 30 keeper bass were landed in no time and lots of blues.  Great trip!  The evening was slow on the open boat as 4 keeper bass and some blues and porgies were landed.

On the Cq 2, Capt Paul also had a very good day.  Several hundred nice porgies to start the day and then some excellent jigging for Bass and BLues.  Our evening charter had some slammer fishing as well with lots of keeper bass and blues for the cub scouts.  A great night!

Unfortunately, the night trip was slow.  We read a ton of bass, just like the day trips but couldnt get em to bite.

Headed out on our Jfish/east end trip trip today. Fluking was red hot to start the day! Then unfortunately the wind and the current really picked up and the drift sped up to over 2 knots and the bite slowed dramatically. Nonetheless, we had 300-400 fluke on the day, 25-30 keepers. Fish are there and with good conditions it would have been savage!

Capt Paul ran the local boat and also had very good results as 6 fares had 60 fluke on the day, 14 keepers, 1 keeper bass and some blues. Nice day!

Due to the large amount of fluke around we are going to sail Monday-Friday 6am on these East End Special until further notice!

Striped Bass Fishing was absolutely amazing today!!

Started the day in the Bay due to the strong east winds.  Had a very good catch of porgies to start the day.  Once the wind laid down we were able to move look around a bit and found a Massive school of Striped Bass!

It was an all out slaughter, full boat limit!! Tons of keepers.  What a day!

Capt Chris had the same results on the half day trip and reported that it was just incredible fishing today!

We will be incorporating the great bass fishing and porgie fishing into our trips for the upcoming days.  Hope to see you!

Nice day out there today!  9 fares had 70 fluke keeping 7 up to 7.8 lbs!  Also made an awesome drop on big porgies as well!  The pm trip was cut short by thunderstorms.

Here is a nice report from Pete Billela who was out on the pm trip earlier in the week:
Headed out there with Capt. Neil for a late-day Scup-a-palooza on the CQ. We weren't disappointed, that's for sure!

With our own Capt. Paul at the helm we were quickly over prime porgy bottom and the silver was flying! Not your average South Shore "pounders" either. These are all big breeder-sized "bronto-porgies," some were so large that they had lost much of their bright silver look and were more of a dusky metallic grey.

What beautiful fish, so overlooked by so many. What a shame. . .

Anyway, ended up winning the $150 pool with a solid 3.5lb bruiser, and turned the entire winning over to Caroline the mate - who was covered in scales from head to toe at the cleaning table and to Capt. Jared, who was also working deck last evening.

Listen, though the limit has now gone to 10 fish per man, you will have ZERO regrets boarding a first-class operation like Desi's and coming home with a "mere" 10 of these mega-scup. Quite an impressive bag o'fillets mine made up to. . .

These trips depart at 4:45 p.m., the perfect time to take a break from the oppressive heat, cool off on the calm waters off Port Jeff, catch a super-nice pail of a very under-rated fighter and watch a magnificant sunset. Ain't gonna get any better, no matter where you fish or what you fish for.

I've loved porgy fishing since I was a little kid, but I have to say I have NEVER seen such outsized examples as are running right now off Port Jeff. Try to get out there asap, because once these big breeders move off, that's it folks, until late in the Fall. A tee-shirt, shorts and a pair of flip-flops are infinitely preferable fishing attire to what you'll need in October.

Geez, what hard fighting fish these big scup are. At 3lbs they pull like hell. A double of true 2+lbers will impress any inshore angler. Take that favorite fluke stick out there for these "Spring run" porgies and be prepared to be shocked how much harder they pull than like-sized flatties!

If scup ever got to 10lbs, we'd all be saying "What's a tog?"

With the fluking still not what it should be just about everywhere, why not take a ride to see Capt Desi and spend what I promise will be a super-enjoyable evening on the water?

Trust me on this! Wink

best, Lep

Porgie fishing right now is absolutely on fire!!!  Three main areas are loaded with big scup right now and everyone has been having a blast.  Bring the kids!

Locally fluking has seen lots of shorts and just a pick of keepers.  Having said that we are excited that it is time now for our East End Trips which will next week!  The reports so far are very promising from our eastern grounds and we look forward to spending more time there for the next several weeks.

Keep in touch for the exact trips, which we will be posting up soon!

Had a fun day with Capt Neil and the gang on our full day Top Fluke Angler Contest/ extravaganza.     Change of the tide and first of ebb was quite promising and but slowed an hour in then was a pick after the current really started pushing for the rest of the trip.  Finished up with 250 fluke on the day, 180 were over 16 inches, and 22 were keepers.  Several fish in the 4- 5 lb class and the pool 5.6 lbs.

Freddie azaiter has been on fire this year and won the Best FLuke Angler of the Trip with 14 fluke, 2 keepers, to go along with the 3 free trips he won last week for his 6 lbder.    Also, we had another 6.8 lbder yesterday that won 3 free trips....oh soooooo close to winning that free season pass!!!!  But it wasnt quite 7 lbs....Season Pass still up for the taking guys!!!!!

The morning half day started slow but Capt jared kept looking, found a nice pile of bait on one edge that had some good life on it.  Put a bunch of keepers in the boat and lots of short action.  The mid trip was slower.

The evening Porgie Bonanza trips have been just fine with lots of big scup coming over the rails.!!!  As is common this time of year some of these fish have been up to 18 inches!  Everyone is going home with a nice catch!!

The night Bass trips were slow with just a few keepers landed.  But we will definitley be going agin on the next moon.  stay tuned.
Finally the nice weather is here and the fishing is definitely looking up!!

Fluking is picking up! 5.7 lbs fluke won the $250 reel on the am trip today! Very good life on certain parts of the tide with Pete Messina and 10 year old Quinn both catching over 20 fluke a piece this morning
The Season pass for 7lbs is still up for grabs! Next 6 lbder wins 3 free trips as well!
Huge piles of porgies on the beach right now. Headed out now to hopefully catch a few! It was a miracle...we saw the sun today!!

Wow what a week of weather!  We didnt sail most of the week nor today.  We did get out last night with 4 fares and fishing was slow.  The water was very stirred up from all the wind this week.   We marked a ton of porgies on the machine but just couldnt get to bite well.  They are here though and now that things have finally settled down hopefully this week coming up will be much better!
Saturday, May 14, 2011
Had our first porgie charter today.  Fishing was slow in the morning but capt Chris kept looking and found and very good bite of big scup to end the trip!  Nice way to finish and a sign of good things to come!  Last night we had a pick of scup and just startedt to get em going and then they shut off.  It was a tease to say the least.
Fluking today was way off with the conditions.  Caught around 50 fluke on the day with half dozen keepers, but all in all a very slow day.  They just werent feeding the same and the bait had scattered up as well.  It happens.  Try again tomorrow
Friday, May 13, 2011
We had a nice little bite this morning on the first of the ebb. The east wind unfortunately came up and slowed messed up the drift.
middle of the trip was slower and then we plucked some more to end the trip closer to home.
Finished the day with 15 nice keepers. 10 year old Quinn had 13 fluke today with a nice keeper in the mix. Picking up nicely!

Well, just when the tog are really starting to turn on, the season closes.
Started to bit good this afternoon as close to 30 keepers came over the rail by days end for a light crowd.  Pool was around 6 lbs. So just when the water temp was right, its over!!  Oh well.
Now its time for bountiful harvests of Giant Sized Fluke!! :)
Here are a few pics, including one of Big Glenn Daly who was the winner of Ralph Rodwinders beautiful custom rod that he generously donated for the largest cod caught this winter!!  Congrats Glenn and enjoy!!

Similar fishing as yesterdays trip with crazy action during the night, with a pick of keepers.  Capt Paul got set up on the first drop and got out the chum and was able to keep the bite going for several hours.   Tons and tons of shorts with lock and load action.  By trips end most were able to put together a decent catch.

Friday, March 4, 2011
Solid codfishing today.  Silly action during the night with tons of shorts with a nice mix of keepers. Here is a report from FishermanGeorge that was psoted on noreast.com:

Good Afternoon Fellow Noreasters: Went Codfishing on the Celtic Quest out of Montauk with Capt.Chris LaMastro of the Michael J, Hank, & Kelly with Capt.Paul Risi running the boat today for Capt.Desi Sullivan. The Weatherman said Cloudy Skies today with a High Temperature of 39 Degrees. The Marine Forecast called for East Winds at 5-10 Knots, Seas of 1 Foot or Less, & we were fishing on the New Moon Tide. We left my home at 7:30 P.M. & ended up arriving at Montauk by 9:40 P.M. Of course it was Mandatory to make a stop at the 711 for Coffee.

The Celtic Quest departed at 11:00 P.M. Sharp headed for the Codfishing Grounds, getting there at about 1:40 A.M. On our very 1st Drop we fished for approximately 3 1/2 Hours Drifting. Although there happened to be quite a few short Codfish with Keepers in between, the bite in the dark was solid, with alot of action from Bow to Stern. Rods were bending all over, but the boat was well prepared having 4 Mates to work the deck. Either Chris, Hank, Kelly, or yours truly, always had a fish on. It was absolutely great getting back with the guys again, especially Kelly, who I haven't seen for many months. Even after the bite slowed down, there were some great flurries of action on the 2nd Drop that Capt.Paul made. All 4 of us easily limited out, & there were plenty of fillets to go around.

I'd like to thank Capt.Paul Risi for putting us on the fish today. Also special thanks to Mates Chris, JP,Jarod & Tom for helping me get on & off the boat. Many thanks to Chris for driving, getting us there & back safely, & Chris, Hank, & Kelly for their help in carrying my stuff. Hoping to see all of you out there while the Codfish Bite is Red Hot. Until Then, Please Keep Safe Out There, Catch Them Fish, & GOD BLESS.....

Awesome trip yesterday.  Slow bite in the heavy snow and rain at night and an all out BAIL during the morning on the drift!! Savage fishing now!!!  Here is a report from Rob( aka Togilator) that he posted on Noreast.com:

Pulled out of dock at 8:37 PM Saturday night to start the long steam to the grounds southeast of Block Island. Had some interesting anchoring difficulties but we got set up quickly. As I walked out the door we were greeted with some heavy snow which turned to rain sometime in the middle of the night. The epic night bail job was a slow grind in some wet miserable conditions. Many stuck it out as the smart ones (not me) took a snooze in the cabin. Des and crew moved several times during the night with the last drop being quite productive. Capt.Paul through heavy chum all night long which aided in putting fish in the boat.

A good amount of Party and charter boats out there with many sitting on the hook and others drifting. Des decided to get in line and join the drift party after sun up. We again picked good but no bail job. Around 8:00 AM we had a strategy session and we talked of hitting a few wrecks. Captain Paul was now up at the helm as JC and Des talked, I proceeded to catch a two sets of keeper double headers and Des Thought what to do. Next drift the entire port side rods are bent quickly followed by the starboard side and we were not going anywhere other then back to the front of the drift line. You could here Pablo yelling from all aroud the boat, theres a man that enjoys fishing no matter what he catches. Veteran surf nerd Jaybass even tagged a limit but decided to only keep what he needed. My good buddy Josh (lijrtt) was allowed out and put on a show.

After about 2 hrs of sick fishing Des asked how many more drifts we wanted to make. At this point coolers were full and many people had called it quits with sore back and arms. We made one more last drift for good times sake, I think every rod was bent on that last drift, just sick fishing. Sometime around 10:00 AM we pulled out of the fleet and the bow ot the CQ was pointed towards home.I was a little worried when I saw Cris Hunt and fish sitting in the Captains chair, thought we might land in portugal.Captain Des was rite there doing the daily paper work.Went in the cabin to grab a few beers and there must of been 20 guys sleeping.I guess all them cod wore the charter out.Good to see everyone had smiles on there face and another trip was heading into the memory books.A great trip with plenty of good fisherman and a lot of laughs. Most fish today were 22 to 28 inches nothing big but plenty of them.Fresh shucked clam was the ticket but the fish were feeding on small hering and jigs did work also.

Many thanks to the Celtic Quest team Captain Desmond, Paul, Chris, JP and Tommy Thats some experianced azz kiken crew rite there. Also a big thankyou to Bernadette who takes all our phone calls and reservations.I can not forget our fearless leader,my good friend JC30967 who sets up these incredible trips and dosent mind driving the truck on the way home.We cant thank RALPH RODWINDER enough for his generosity of bulding 2 spectacular custom cod rods for the pool prizes.A true gentleman and incredible rod builder to say the least.

Fishing is as good as it gets now and with March here tommorow the end of the Block cod season will be coming soon.Get out now before its to late and give the CELTIC QUEST a shot, they will put you on the meat. They are some of the best in the business!!!!!

OH ALMOST FORGOT, WITH A 16 HOUR DAY AND 20 HRS FOR THE CREW, I THINK WE GOT MY MONEYS WORTH YESTERDAY!

Still have not sailed in days!  We will be sailing tomorrow.  Give the office a call if you would like to join us.

Friday, Jan 21, 2011

Have not sailed all week and we are canceled again tomorrow.  Maybe sunday we might get out.

Tuesday, Jan 18th , 2011

Yesterday was another very solid day of cod fishing, though not the ludicrous numbers of last week.
Suffice to say there was still a ton of cod landed, action all day long with many guys at or around a limit catch. Tons of throwbacks in the mix today. Everyone went home with fish for dinner.  Nice to see some larger cod showing up now as well.

Sunday, Jan 16th, 2011

Cod fishing remains excellent!!!  Everyone is going home with lots of fish.  Limits catches every trip so far.  Yesterday we found some larger cod with some nice fish in the teens.  Still catching well on both bait and jigs.  Some start to the season!

What a day again yesterday!

The morning bite at first light was on fire for the first few hours. Jigs, bait, it didnt matter. Everyone caught well. The bite slowed around 9am when the current eased. We looked around and found a few shots of cod on some pieces, putting a few dozen more keepers in the boat.

Kept searching and then found the Mother Load to end the trip!! Read a nice pile, got on em, and the first drift alone lasted 25 minutes, non stop bail all around the boat!! Silly fishing!!  Made a few more quick drifts before calling it a day and heading home as everyone had all the fish they needed.

Highlight of the day was 7 year old Kyle, who had 12 keepers (orl) and then he helped us drive the boat home. :) Way to go Kyle!!!

What a start to the season its been! Looks like Friday will be the next trip.

7 year old Kyle

Crushed to Cod again today!!!!  Easy boat limit by 8:30am!!!!  Silly right now.
Here is a report Capt Jp wrote:
Worked deck on the CQ today and a light crowd enjoyed some of the best codfishing you could. Had a slow steady pick in the dark and once the sun rose up fishing was down right savage.

Some drifts were better than others with the last one being about as good as it could be, by the time you locked your reel up you had at least one on already, biting so aggressively that you didn't even have to move your jig.

Had our limit by about 8:30, on our way in at 10:00 after some catch and release. High hooks had around 30 or so keepers and lord knows how many shorts. Kilsong and The Jersey Boys(James, James, and Dave) leading the way
